Stacks Docklet

@ matonga: Very strange: The first link [host from your ISP account] is not working now, but the second link works fine now... I don't know what's going on here.

But nevertheless: I was finally able to download your Docklet and I'm testing it right now [with RocketDock].

Edit: I just found some news about the enhanced Stacks-feature that will come with Mac OS X 10.5.2. Maybe you can have a look at it and see what you can use for your Docklet: http://macenstein.com/default/archives/983

Before I forget: Your Docklet works really cool here, I don't have any problem, just only one minor issue: When you click on the Stack and keep the mouse-button pressed, the Stack-icon will become a little bit darker. So far, so good: If you click normally on your Stack to open it and then click again on the Stack-icon to close it, the icon stays dark. But this issue can be circumvented by clicking on an empty space on the Desktop.

Edit 2: Okay, I've found a new bug: I used my "Downloads"-folder as a Stack, but it didn't showed me the folder icons. Inside my Downlaods-folder, I have 14 subfolders. Here's a screenshot for you:

stacksfolderzn4.png

Okay, I think I've found the bug: Instead of "F:Downloads", I used "F:Downloads", which is causing the problem... Nevermind, thanks for your attention :)

Just found another issue (I may be pushing ht e program to its limits ...)

When you have several instances of Stacks in your dock. Click on one, it unfolds, then, without closing it, click on another stacks docklet. The result is funny: the first one closes but its magnified dock icon doesn't reduce until you actually move the mouse. But the second docklet icon reduces too and the grid ( or the fan ) looks silly because it is no longer below (or above, or next to) the dock icon.

#483940

Does anyone has found a way to make RK Launcher shut up about "Class already exists" (if you have more than one stack).

#483941

@all:

There is a hidden feature I didn't comment yet: if you press the shift key and (without releasing the key) click on the dock icon, you will see the stack popping out in slow motion ;) This way and putting it side to side with a Mac, you will also notice that I'm not perfect and animations do differ :)

@chatpristi:

Me bad :) The dock icons appearing on top of your apps is my fault. This was for stack icons hiding behind the dock icon, but I did a mistake because it appears on top of your apps. I'll fix this soon.

I've noticed the flicker in my own machine while developing, with big folders in grid mode. I'm trying to find why it happens.

@DZGH_Operator:

Ok, thats a bug :) and you provided me with the fix (I'll internally remove that slash when the Ok button in the settings dialog is clicked, for anyone typing the folder instead of using the choose folder dialog).

Let's see the new features Macenstein's article tells:

  • list view: haven't tested yet but I think KKMenu properly skinned can do a wonderful job here.
  • display as icon: this is what Stacks Docklets currently does. Indeed Stacks Docklets users are missing the display as stack feature, because I don't know how to implement it yet (tried DockletSetImage (..., gpImage) but it gives access violation exception error).

#483956

Concerning the flicker : I don't know if you have noticed, but just when the icons pop out from behind the dock icon, the first icon in the grid appears at the right place then disappears and reappears about 50 or 70 pixels on the left. It then disappears again and reappears where it was initially (its normal place) and all the icons spread out.

When you closes the grid, it's the grid that moves left and returns to its place before shrinking.

What I don't understand is that it doesn't happen every time

#483964

i've just realized that i didn't see the "Open folder" icon because it was wrongly extracted, images weren't in "image" folder xD

#483966

Just want to show off mine,please give it comments,thank's matonga,thank's everybody

#483969

@ matonga: I forgot one thing: Will future versions of your Docklet support Mouse-Over effects? I'm not sure how this looks with Leopard but I think it has Mouse-Over effects...

#483975

@DZGH_Operator

From the videos I've watched sofar, the real stacks doesn't seem to have mousover effects.

#483976

Great work on this matonga! :)

FYI, if you notice a hit on your servers it appears your docklet is making the rounds on the net. ;)

Husaini HB, nice shot. Are you using Iconpackager or Icontweaker? Just wondering as I'm using IconPhile & windows standard folders are showing up. It's definitely not a docklet issue.

#483979

Here's another bug I've found: When I watch a DVD, the Docklet often stays on top of the screen. I have to minimize the video-window and switch back to fullscreen several times to solve this issue. It doesn't happen with other Docklets.

#483982

@chatpristi & DZGH_Operator:

You probably have the same problem (icon dock on top of everything).

I uploaded a new version, tell me if it corrects the problem.

Edit: and solved the issue of icons moving about 50 pixels, chatpristi you should see no more icon flickering effect now.

#483985

Just installed and tried it. All the previous issues seem to be corrected.

YET,

I have another issue. When a stack is open and click outside of it on the desktop, the dock returns to normal state, but the grid or fan remains. Clicking again on the stack icon will close it though, so it it not buggy... just a little funny.

Anyway I really want to thank you again. I never thought I would ever see such a nice complement to the dock. And it's just amazing how fast you work.

#483986

@chatpristi:

I forgot that one. New version just uploaded. Download, try and tell me if it works now :).

#483989

Perfect.

One last thing. It refuses to display icons if it points to partition D: of my hard disk.

Pointing to c: the icons are all the overlay hand for shared folders.

Well, this is my last issue. I'll stop being a nuisance ... for tonight ;-)

excellent work mate!

#483990

Okay, I think I've found the bug: Instead of "F:Downloads", I used "F:Downloads", which is causing the problem... Nevermind, thanks for your attention :)

Fixed! Now you can put F:Downloads and still it will work.

#483993

@ matonga: Everything works fine now, thanks a lot for your fast help!

#483996

Sir,smiley,I don't use any of them,just change the shell32 in the Flyakite system resources ,thank's

#484026

I've been hanging back waiting for comments that this has stabilized.....finally installed it in OD+ this morning and it's working great. Thanks for all your hard work and fast updates

#484052

Hi Matonga, it's good to see you here again.

An issue i've noticed:

errormessageuponclickinbq9.jpg

This is an error message that pops up in RocketDock v1.3.1 when the stack docklet is clicked multiple times in a row. Try about 3 or 4, while the stack docklet is animating out and in.

One more thing.. will the docklet eventually support drag & drop? If possible, could you provide an option to either: Move or Copy a file when dropped onto the docklet? This would be extremely useful to the concept :)

Oh, and I second the previously mentioned suggestion to have the docklet check an .ini file and load assigned PNGs if listed, before defaulting to the native icons. ;)

oh, one more thing.. this is another usability issue but is there any way you could address this condition:

namesarenotreadableph5.jpg

The names of the folders get cut off in such a way that it's near impossible to identify easily one from another.

I'm not sure how stacks on a mac addresses this issue, but could you come up with a solution?

Some suggestions:

~ a tooltip like name badge.

~ additional margins for double line names when required.

~ etc.

#484076

Also in your previous animations the icons went up and down very quickly now it seems to stop at the last icon and hang for a second long enough that I can move to the capture docklets and catch this.......

stackamation.png

I liked it much better when it closed they just shot down and were gone.

Also I get the same error message as fircracker6 when clicking the docklet numerous times.

#484078

Matonga, this is not workink for me: now you can drop files to the stack dock icon (they will be moved to the stack's configured folder). The rest is perfectly

#484081

It tells me that the name of the file is too long (largo, perdón por mi inglés). And I´ve tried with small name files

#484082

There's a bug while using it on Avedesk. All exe files inside the stack folder share the same default folder icon. Makes it a bit confusing to differentiate from actual folders, :x

#484085

@Ojalord:

Download last version

@af14:

The error message is from Explorer itself (I tell Explorer to move the files). What is the name of the file?

@firecracker6:

I can't solve the error, but now at least it won't popup the error message from now on :) (yeah, lame fix)

As far as I can recall, Mac solves too-long-names issue by showing a tooltip when you put the mouse over the icon.

@Ghostwalker:

That's really strange... and I can't reproduce the error here, works fine :(
