Stacks Docklet

Hi Mantoga,

i have created a little more mac like menu. Maybe you can implement it to the docklet?

Great work! I find it nice with the "default" empty translucent box and the first three icons "inside" it. :)

Now if we could have that nice OnHover effect in Grid view... ;)

@RocknGothAlien:

Hey, that's great! I don't know if I can match that exactly, but I'll do my best redesigning positions and stuff, so anyone with a Leopard Visual Style or WindowBlinds skin will have something as near as possible to what you have posted.

@robc:

OnHover effect is a hidden feature in Mac OS X. First I'd like to implement on hover icon name expansion in grid view (Supe...Bros -> Super Mario Bros, etc...)

Hi,

I know it maybe hard to implement, but as the three first icons are displayed my dock with mirrored icons now has those stackicons unmirrored. Would it be possivle to have an option to have those mirrored?

any news on the crash i experience in Object dock, can anyone repeat it?

The new update is temperamental in ObjectDock 1.9. At first it crashed as soon as I tried to configure a folder to the docklet, but I have managed to successfully configure the docklet now without ObjectDock crashing. I have tested it by restarting ObjectDock several times and there hasn't been any more crashes yet.

matonga, may I suggest you test the docklet in ObjectDock before release? It's an incredible docklet, not only for those who wish to emulate OSX, but it's a shame when something so great is haunted by bugs when a simple case of testing may resolve the issue. I know installing software that you're never going to use is a bit annoying, but as a web developer who has 11 browsers installed on his computer I understand that is necessary.

Well... I know this will sound a bit lame but, if you look at the thread's title, it says it is a Preview and not a Release.

Yes, I know a more than 1 year long preview doesn't really qualify as a preview.

Maybe I'll consider doing stable releases every one or two months. That would be ok (by stable I mean tested in Object Dock, Rocket Dock, and RK Launcher) (please note I can't solve dock bugs, such as caption not hiding in Rocket Dock, or not being able to add more than one stack in RK Launcher's last version).

@Björn: yes, I also use reflective icons and have this same problem. Stay tuned.

#514401

Do you change the animation in grid mode? I use every update you have made and i think the old animation was better (i mean the one included in version 1.0.0.43, for example). Anyway, as always excelent job!

I hope I didn't sound ungrateful because I am far from it, but so many people use this docklet and now it is unstable on one of the most popular applications it is intended for. It's just a shame, that's all. I understand your stance and appreciate all of the effort you put into your applications. I have been a keen follower of the forums and your applications in particular for a long time, although I have only just signed up, and just felt I should follow up on the initial bug report.

Your bug report is welcome of course. What I mean is, I don't get paid for this, so I just expect someone else will test with his/her favourite dock.

At job I also face this problem of incompatibilites and I test apps against Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8; Mozilla Firefox 2 & 3, Opera 8 and Safari, in Windows XP, Vista, Ubuntu, Debian and Mac OS X, and with 32 and 64 bit versions in case of the Linux distros. But at job there is a difference: I get paid (and I'd be fired if I don't run those tests).

Testing is a tedious process, I do Stacks Docklet for free because I love doing these apps and even I rejected some proposal from people wanting to donate me on WinExposé long time ago. If I just start testing and hunting lots of bugs, I'll probably desist from continuing with Stacks and other projects. As long as it doesn't become a tedious task, and instead it continues to be just something fun to do, I'll continue with them.

I really appreciate your support on this and didn't take it wrong ;) What I wanted is to explain myself and my position about the free apps I write. I don't take them so seriously, I understand lots of people use these apps, but they (*) are not more than a hobby to me (else I would be charging for their usage, and they'd be shareware, hehehe).

Please understand me, and from time to time you'll see me bear with some bugs and feature requests. :D

Edit: (*) by "they" I mean the apps, not the people of course.

could the distance between icons and lables be set at constant.

Yes Matonga, that would be great! Please make the Name Full Expansion work with both Fan & Grid View... I use really long names :P

oh, and did you catch my previous question?

Can you tell us if this docklet would work in BOBAH13's dock yet? Do you have plans to make it work? I know the dock already has built in stack functionality, but I really enjoy yours as well.

..or did you just stop reading further down the post after I made your day. :D

Ok, I changed settings form to have a little more Mac OS X look.

To get it really good looking, I should instead make a skinnable form and abide by the Apple GUI Design Guidelines :D

Also added caption expansion on mouse over when in grid mode.

Edit:

New features introduce new bugs. Hint remained after closing the stack. Now fixed and reuploaded with fix.

Edit:

Oh, more bugs! When hint for too much items and Open folder stuff confusion. Fixing and reuploading again.

The caption expansion is behind the grid in RKLauncher and in Rocketdock.

Thanks. Reproduced. Only happens when dock Layering option is not set to Always on top, for Rocket Dock (dunno for RK Launcher).

Fixing... done. Reuploading... done. Now it works ok with Rocket Dock, at least here.

#514451

Thanks, works also with RKLauncher built 275.

#514457

this docklet is SO good that i would be willing to donate money if you had a website!!!!

Mmm... es una buena solución de compromiso después de todo. Creo que la voy a implementar a ver qué onda.

I'll add a space between dock icon and fan items, so at least dock's text doesn't overlap fan items.

What about making this an option, then?

Bug: I set the Stack Docklet to access my My Documents folder but it won't include some folders such as My Pictures.

I tried it myself and can see My pictures, and even click it. Can you send me a screenshot or something? Take into account the stack sorts item as in Mac OS X, not as in Windows, what I mean is it sorts folders and files together, not folders first then files as in Windows (maybe I can make this into an option).

Hi

There is still a small bug with fan mode on a 24" monitor, as you can see in the picture.

Yes, as an option would be ideal as it would be nice to maintain consistency with the OS you are using and working on, however, I also understand the desire to reach a level of similarity between this and the original stack characteristics.

#514541

Hello, I am using your latest version (13-nov-2008, 19:18 GMT-03:00) with Object Dock Plus 1.9.

I have several folders with shortcuts. When I click on a shortcut from the stack docklet, I get an error dialog: "There is no application associated with the given filename extension."

I tried all different shortcuts and eventually, OD just crashed. Not sure if that is related or not.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

#514557

So I replaced the DLL with the original one I had (not sure of the version). The errors went away but it would no longer execute the shortcuts. It used to work just great. After pulling my hair out for a while, I downloaded you older 1.0.0.98 version and noticed it included a registry edit. I ran that, then reinstalled your newest version and it works now! Go figure.

Thanks,

Greg
