Stacks Docklet

Hello

I downloaded and installed your stack docklet.

Everything is working nicely, it's a really cool and useful docklet :)

Thanks for sharing your work !

There is just a small feature that would make it even better = to be able to use shortcut links (.lnk files) inside a stack.

Ex : I made a small custom "office" folder with shortcuts to all my apps (word, excel, powerpoint) -- but once I make this folder "stackable", these shortcuts don't work.

Is this feasable ?

Regards

Oh... a last wish (but I guess it's much more complex) : a stackable "my computer folder" that displays only the removable drives (if they are connected) ?

Maybe you have disabled the shortcut arrow. That may not work than.

#492336

Could this be another bug?

I just found out that Stacks Docklet uses 48X48-256 Indexed colors (8 bits) to display icons.

Isn't it suppose to use (RGB/A-32 bits)?

Any icon not containing the 48X48-256 Image Format doesn't display properly under Stack Docklets.

@Yoni5002

Convert the icon to png with AveIcon and use the png instead of ico

@pikipirs:

WTF? Yes, you're right! I'll check this soon.

Edit

@tengshj:

Solved. Uploaded update.

LOL Lightning fast weather these days :))))))))))) I continue to respect the mighty Matonga :D

I use OD+ latest version, I made a Folder for stuff like Adobe and Office apps, I put shortcuts on them and they work really neat.. but.. in the description it says:

"now you can drop files to the stack dock icon (they will be moved to the stack's configured folder)"

what I understand is that if i want to add another shortcut to a folder early made I just have to drop it in the stack icon and it will be added instead of opening Explorer and have to browse for it. But that doesn't work for me.

Also I'd love a window like the others on OD, where you can just drag the icon to change it, or even better, drag the folder and have the link to it, like in Avedesk.

That's my feedback. Nice software though :)

I don't think you get my point quite right. I was not pointing to the icon on the Dock. All my Dock icons are PNG 128X128. The issue is related to the icons that Stack Docklet shows up in Grid and/or Fan mode when you click the Docklet.

I may be wrong, but the 256 color icons could be for win 2k compatibility (although I thought win2k could handle alpha chanel)

hey ill use windows xp, newest rocket dock and newest stack docklet but whenever ill want to open shortcut it say´s

"There is no application associated with the given filename extension." i read the whole thread and also your current answers to this topic but none of the fixes worked so far for me :/

#492553

Is there any hope that it will be a version for Y'z Dock too? For me it's still better to use Yzdock because RK Launcher for example is eating 14 MB of my memory while Yzdock just 0,5 MB

me too.. i prefer YZ Dock.. any possiblity?

Hi!

First of all, sorry for my bad english.

Now to my problem. i´ve installed rocketdock and the program from here to get this stacks. unfortunaly it doesn´t work.

always when i choose a ordner with this programm then i cannot open the files in this ordner. in this ordner are the most important programs from me. when i choose now for example google earth, does always appears the message:

"There is no application associated with the given filename extension."

know anyone of you what is wrong? :-D

Maybe a answer? ;-)

#492599

Not sure but I think the answer was to install Rocket Dock in My Documents instead of Programs it has been mentioned in the thread even though you have not found it.

#492608

Maybe a answer? ;-)

Windows XP, XP SP1, SP2 or Vista?

Are you using Icon Packager or similar to remove shortcut icons?

Do you have IsShortcut value in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTlnkfile registry key? (search previous posts)

#492697

First of all thank you for the answers.

i have vista home premium.

i have no icon packager or a smiliar programm.

i have no isShortcut value in this register. I dont know what this mean but i will try to find it :D

i will look in this thread.

thank you!

Hi!

I've got a little problem with the Stack Docklet. I don't know if it's really a bug or if I should better call it an inter-program problem ;)

I enabled in TweakUI the Option X-Mouse (TweakUI->Mouse->XMouse). This means, that the focus follows my mouse, so I can just do stuff in a window without activly activating it by clicking.

With this option enabled, the fan or grid pops up and closes immediatly when it's full sized. I can only keep it, if I time my movement up onto the grid perfectly to the point where it hits maximum size.

With the fan there is an even bigger problem, since leaving one icon to go to another (thus pointing to the desktop and losing focus from docklet) closes the docklet.

If you find the time to implement a workaround, I would be very grateful!

Thanks for your work!

Dirk

nice post Narthalion, I forgot about that feature available with TweakUI! It's really useful. I just turned X-Mouse on and over the next few days, will be interested in seeing how it behaves with apps and the system as a whole. Hopefully, it'll be smooth.

Speaking about behavior, I can confirm that indeed Stacks will open and close immediately (with animations,) if you only click on the stacks icon without moving the mouse.

#492762

Narthalion, I can suggest a reverse work-a-round sort of.

If you have AutoHotKey installed it's possible to script that feature and enable/disable it from the tray or a hotkey.

Ok, i de-installed rk launcher, deleted everything i could find on my system, restarted my computer and installed rk launcher again. Latest version...

I downed the latest version of this stackdock and was hoping i get it work properly.

But i'm still dealing with the problem that my stack folder, with short cuts to all kinds of programs is still not working.

When i click on a shortcut nothing happens, or the Apple Software Update is starting. But not the program wich the shortcut should lead to.

I just got a brand new notebook too, and tried it there also, but it's not working there either.

When i add a StackDocklet with folders in it and click on a folder, the folder opens correctly.

It's only files, shortcuts etc that is not working.

On my desktop i have XP Pro SP2 with the latest updates and on my notebook i have Vista Home.

Is there any change that this problem could have a better look? Opening folders is pretty ok, but it would be nicer for me when i can open programs too.

Hopefully this issue could have a closer look as i've seen on the forum that there are more people dealing with this.

Thanks, gonna say a little pray... ;)

Can confirm that I have exactly the same problems. I've disabled X-Mouse for the time being as Stacks is sooooooo awesome - thanks Mathias!

Looking forward to a fix soon,

still looking forward to longer filenames in grid mode. :D

only problem here are added items in stacked folders. the icons don't render properly. ...and still thinking Stacks Docklet is awesome.

#492945

has anyone else noticed that if a folder name contains one or more dots (".") then anything after the last dot is removed? (i use dots instead of spaces in lots of folder names :s). if this has been mentioned before then i apologise, but i don't have time to read all the previous pages!

also, it would be really awesome to be able to drag over a stack, hover, have the stack pop up and then drop on an item in the stack. don't know if this is technically possible though.

#492954

It's probably an issue with the way Stacks parses the filename to get rid of the extension.

I don't know how Matango has it set up but it looks like it's searching for the first instance of a "." and trimming the rest. It might do to change it to search for the last "." in the string. That is if he's trimming the string by looking for the last "" and the first "." to find the filename.

In C# we have Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension() which returns the filename without having to bother with trimming the string - it does it for us. Not sure what that translate to in Delphi or if there is an equivalent but it might do to look into to fix this bug.

I know, it doesn't help you right now but maybe it'll help Matango to fix it. :)

No, you can have a . in the filename.

#492985

No, you can have a . in the filename.

No, I know that. What I was saying was, it could be parsing the full path as a string and searching for the first instance of a '.' and trimming what remains after it thinking it's the extension since Windows likes to believe everything after a '.' in a file name is an extension.

i believe it is searching for the last "." (or the first dot from the right). this is fine for files, but i believe folders should be ignored. of course an option to allow file extensions to be visible would be nice also ;p.
