XWindows Dock v5.2.3

Hope ya'll had a great holiday!.......

Is there a new version of "XSkinMaker" for 5.2.3? I had no problem using it with 5.2.2 now I get a smxd file with correct name but size is 0 or 1 kb. I have applied a new skin downloaded skin "neonblue" and it works fine I have tried to create or re-create one using xskinmaker which loaded with 5.2.3 and tried no luck? by the way 5.2.3 is a fresh install on my machine.

By the way none of the older skin versions work or are recognized, I didn't think they would but I have read herein that they do.

I have also noticed with v5.2.3 on my machine - "windows True Transparency" seems to close if I open "edit" in xwd and the "Xweather" docklet doesn't remember the location setting when xwd is restarted.

running windows xp sp2 sony vaio, tclock, windows TT, finderbar, avedesk, macsearch

thanks in advance!

I had the exact same problem when using repacker with the new xskinmaker, but everything worked fine if I dragged the new configure file into xskinmaker, so I'm not sure what's happening to you.

Thanks for the reply!

I've tried just about every way I can think of with no luck... by "new configure file" please explain.

I have renamed the "description" line in the config.txt file to the name of the folder containing the png files (all have ing corresponding names) and drug that to the xskinmaker, drug both config and folder with pngs to xskinmaker, drug config and just the pngs (not in a folder), and run as usual via cmd.exe..... they produce a smxd file but again it is 0 or maybe 1kb? beats me.... oh well what to do...

GOT IT FIGURED OUT! Well here is the KEY (on my machine anyway)!

1. DO NOT have any files or folders in the xwdtools folder EXCEPT xskinmaker.exe, config.txt and the PNG files for the skin.

2. I MUST CHANGE THE "Discription" line in the config.txt from "default" to something else. (It doesn't seem to mater what name i pick? the newly created smxd file picks up one of the names of the PNG files??? so I rename as in step 4 below)

3. drag all PNGs and config to xskinmaker....... voila!

4.Rename sxmd file that was created to something with meaning for me as a skin and cut and past to the xwdskins folder.

Then do the usual skin selection method from "preferences" within xwd.

Again, thanks for the reply!

To BOBAH13:

This is a little request:

I'd like the stacks to reserve their icon after they're clicked, because some times, the "StackOff" icon icluded in a skin doesn't look good in my theme. Or it just happens that it looks well, but the stack's icon that I use looks better.

It sounds weird, and you could think that I should just remake the skin, but it would be much better if you include an option like this:

"Use "StackOff" icon from skin"

Just as the "Use "Folder" icon from skin" option. I hope you iclude this for next release.

shishimaru: BottomReflection, it's not that you selected, it's under orange selection ;) (where black line....) you select pixeles which will be skip from bottom to top on the panel. I think you understand me :)

Mattey: if I add this option then I must use another icon for stack... and where will I get it ? :)

Thanks for your suggestion.

I got it ,because of "BottomReflection=0" I don't know where I could put a selection:)

Ummm.. Maybe this screenshot of the other skin will be easier to understand.

Thank you.

Yes now you are right :) I have got good news. I have already finished making new reflection of windows.

Now in the skin you can add mask(png) of dock's panel. What does mask do ? It shows to my dock where windows's relfection can be painted also you can make mask with gradiend but you can only use gray colors I mean use gradient from black to white or white to black and of course you can mix them and you can't use transparency in these pngs (mask). If you use transparent equal 0 then my dock will ignore it and won't paint reflection onto this place. If you don't understand me you can see onto picture which shows you what I meant.

Also now you can make borders of stack's grid using png and change inside color of stack's grid optionally. And color of grid's text ;)

oh and you can just dtop Config.txt onto XSkinMaker.exe and Skin.smxd will be created... you shouldn't drop any png onto it. Or you can use bat file and write "XSkinmaker.exe config.txt nameofskin.smxd" and then you won't have to rename Skin.sxmd into another ;) it's just suggestion

#519266

That really looks great, thanks BOBAH.

#519267

and you don't have to do it in tools folder, you can move xskinmaker & config anywhere :)

@Bobah : this is gonna be great release. as always :)

Просто супер ! Не ожидал, что после RKLauncher-a будет что-то наподобие ! Так держать Вован !

After RK came this, after this - who knows. But now we have it and people will keep doing great things if they have inspiration and Bobah definitely has, but we have to support him other way too :)

#519275

Also I have already added support (*.dll) like docklets for make your animation for stacks... 2 examples (linear and fountain stacks) will be installed with intaller ;) I think it'll be given everybody to make new effects to show fan and grid :) thanks shishimaru for his idea and design of "fountain" effect and my code :)

Now I have got enough time to coding dock... and I'll continue inform you here what news

#519277

Great news, Bobah! I'm looking forward to it :)

I just love it, how you make the dock customizable! Now even stack-animations can be completely customized, that's a big big improvement over all the other docks.

BTW: Any news on the website? Deavy hasn't written anything about it for some weeks, now.

It would be so cool, to have a site, where the people would be able to download all the newest stuff.

For example, if you want to download themes to your dock, it's currently a mess to find themes that work with the newest XWD, without following this whole thread all the time. There are so many outdated versions around... Must seem daunting for outsiders.

A website, where the theme-developers or the docklet-developers could upload their files, with a simple version-control, and a big Help/FAQ-Section, similar to the mozilla-add-on site (but maybe simpler ;)), that would help so much!

If Deavy is too busy right now, perhaps some other people from the forum could jump in?

Hello love the improvements to the dock I have a couple questions:

#519282

Also I have another question about installing icons that I download with the skin how do I install them I am clueless Thanks:)

1. Yes, as far as I know, all available Docklets are working fine with 5.2.3. (Not sure about XClock, didn't tried it)

2. Both Skins are working fine with XP, they are called "Leopard" because they look like the dock on Mac OS.

Also I have another question about installing icons that I download with the skin how do I install them I am clueless Thanks:)

3. You can change most of the Icons in the dock by right-click on the icon, then choose "Edit". Then click on the "change"-Button and navigate to your png-file you want to use. However, there are some Icons you can't change: Folder Icons, Trash-Can icons, Stackon/off icons and some others depend on the theme you are using and can not be changed by users, yet. And Stacks need a special treatment: rightclick on the Icon for the stack, choose Stack-Icon -> change.

#519287

Hmm...I need some glasses :)

The problem for that docklets is that settings.ini path was not quite the right..;)

But still don;t shows the icons :( Hmmmm

#519288

atreiu: No, you are not quite right ;) Folder icons you can change... ;) also I added optiont to change offset of icon's shadow and its transparent value

and please try to work at settings not from ini and from XDocklet = class.

#519289

Bobah can you explain how to stop reflections from going over the edge of the dock?

Is it what Shishimaru said?

#519291

Do not try XClock on this version...it will mess up your entire app :) Warning

Don;t try at home
