Winamp CD Case (shows cover in a CD jewel case)

@Carlos, well, I do not know if it possible for the fonts in Winamp Cd Case (WCC) to look like in Avetunes, i.e. not too sharp and more antialiased.

And features from Avetunes into WCC, well I dont know, seems like the functional and useful stuff is all I really need... so it is up to you ;) for instance I never use the "rating" neither on tiger nor windows, or any indication of the gender of a song. Maybe showing "things" when the mouse is over the cd case.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time yet to find a better way to draw the fonts. Remember that XP has a clear type feature (makes the fonts antialiased).

Regarding the mouse feature, you can set WCC to show notifier when the mouse is over the case ("Options>Notifier").

I have a slight problem. WCC can not find a cd cover for a few of my mp3's (I assume it searched on amazon.com) so I surfed there and found them. DL'd them and put them in my cd covers folder as I have the program set to look in the cd covers folder forst and WCC still does not see them? Should I drag the cover to the program on the desktop to see what happens?

If you drag the cover WCC should save the cover properly.

In addition, WCC will find your cover if you save it foloowing the "Artist - Album.jpg" pattern from ID3 tags (not from the filename).

Hi folks,

Long time lurker here. I've been following this thread for a few months now. Kudos on a mighty fine job you've done here. I use this plugin every day now. One thing that would be really nice to have is an option to put in a custom URL to retrieve images from. One of my favorite internet radio stations posts the CD cover of the song they're playing on their website. It would be nice if I could enter that URL in CDCover. Fow now, though, I'm using the comic docklet to retrieve the image using Y'z Dock.

Just go to "Skin Manager>Size and position" and adjust the "Top" of "Cover position".

Hey there Carlos,

I've been using Winamp CD Case vor a while now, and I love it. It's just what I was looking for to give my pretty desktop that final touch. :) Good job!

I came up with a list of suggestions that you may appreciate.

Someone asked if you could make it so that WCC doesn't display a cover when winamp is not running. Honestly, I love it how it shows the cover of the last album I played. If you change this, please add an option to still show the last album cover.

Even though I like looking at the last played album cover, I would like it if the notifier wasn't visible when Winamp isn't running. I know I can set it to auto-hide and then show on mouseover or stuff like that, but I would like it to be there all the time when Winamp is open...

As to the Skin Manager options, if users could input the size of the notifier pixels instead of 1x, 2x or 3x the jewel case size, that would make WCC more flexible and customizable. For example, I have the notifier close to the left side of the screen, with the text aligned to the right. When a song with a long title comes on, it either goes off the screen (3x) or is cut before it reaches the end of the screen (2x). :slant:

My music collection is pretty well organized and tagged, but sometimes a song with the wrong album info comes on, and WCC can't find a cover for it, so I look up the album info and add it to the ID3 tag, but WCC doesn't see that the info has changed, and stopping/restarting the song doesn't change anything, so I have to play another song and then go back. Could you add an option to refresh the track info in WCC?

What about multi-disc albums? Metallica's S&M or Garage INC, for example. A lot of users have "(Disc 1)" in the ID3 tag, because it helps organize those releases. In result, WCC can't find the cover info. If we could edit the information WCC uses to retrieve the cover (like "Manual Search" with the ID3 values as default) we'd be able to get rid of the "(Disc 1)" in the search string, and WCC would probably find a cover that way. :cool:

Carlos: I've been watching the progress of your app and was inspired by it to bring the same to WMP which I thankyou for. My question is as a programmer (and perhaps a PM would have better for this but nevertheless).

I've been able to retrieve the album art from amazon but I have yet been able to SAVE this art like your program does. Any tips on how I might go about that or insights on how you acheived this? I thought I might be able to utilize the Copy function from the Windows API but have yet been unable to figure it out.

Thanks in advance for any info and like I said before, a big THANKYOU for this growing app.

i have a suggestion, how about when there is no album cover found, it'll auto-hide itself instead of the "no album cover found". I think it makes the dektop look better overall.

Not showing the cover: for some reason WCC is not getting Winamps changes... I'll try to check it. By the way, try to see if there is a pattern: something like after one song the next never shows the cover...

Finally, you can change the search string: right click the case or double click the case and you'll see the search string... You can also be prompted before the search ("Options>Download").

i really like this plugin as i am i heavy user of winamp. however i have a lot of music files from different albums in the same folder, so when i download a cover it does download, but it gives an error

"cannot rename folder, the source and destination files are the same"

therefore i have to download the same cover many times for the same file if i play again

perhaps there could be an optional database that remembers the album covers, so i dont have to put all the songs into seperate albums? (there are seriously a lot of songs)

2) What read cover methods did you selected ("Options>Read cover")?

If you select "Artist - Album.jpg" WCC should work as you expect. In addition, you can select "Cover's folder" so WCC will cache all downloaded covers in one single folder...

1: I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to explain... I want WCC to hide the notifier when Winamp is not running, but to continue displaying the cover. A simple check that reads "Hide notifier when Winamp isn't running" will do the trick wonderfully :D

2: About the custom noifier size, it's a shame you don't want to implement it. By trying to keep it simple, you are also limiting the possibilities that your app offers to its users. :(

3: I have never had any problems with WCC not detecting track changes in Winamp. What I was trying to explain is that sometimes I edit the ID3 Tag of a track (for example, I correct the album name) while it's playing, and WCC doesn't know that the track information was updated, and continues to show the old information :slant:

4: I tried clicking the case, but all WCC does is redownload the cover. I never see the search string, and I can't modify it either. Right-clicking the case only brings up the popup menu and I can't find an option to view/modify the search string. Maybe you didn't understand what I meant? By "search string" I mean the text that WCC uses to search for the cover, for example: "Artist: Finger Eleven", "Album: The Greyest of Blue Skies", so that if I have "(Disc 1)" or "(Disc 2)" at the end of the album name for a group of songs, I can open up this "Manual Search" I wish WCC had, enter the correct album info there and have WCC download and save the cover without having to edit the (correct) ID3 Tag of those files. :)

carlos no other version has ever worked for me , but this one so far (dont want to jinx it) rocks ! in the past winamp cd case would only work the first time then after exiting it would never work again LOL......it still is a little buggy but still seems ahread of every other prog for winamp....thanks alot man , as long as it still works its going to stay on my desktop.

im afraid to mess with the options like "auto start when winamp does" cause im afraid i might ruin it lol
