About

Winamp CD Case is a skinnable Winamp front end that shows a CD Case (as a default skin) and the song's album cover with high quality image resample. Winamp CD Case will extract the cover from the song's folder, ID3v2 tag or download a missing one from internet. Winamp CD Case will work with Foobar2000 too but you have to install Winamp API Emulator plugin (see Readme.txt).

The case has some invisible buttons (the normal cursor turns hand cursor) to control Winamp (play/pause, next, previous).

There are some options to play with too (including download cover, hotkey to bring Winamp CD Case to foreground, starts Winamp, exit if Winamp is ended, always on top, system tray with balloon notification and more).

cool. if it can read the song title from winamp maybe you can add some amazon (.com, .de etc.) lookup for the covers. just like similar cd cover widgets do (I know, this is not a widget).

#268504

Nice suggestion. But, I can't promise you.

Anyway, there are nice programs that can download lots of covers at once:

yep, I am aware. just that now, I am continuously switching between iTunes and Winamp and must make a decision. I would go with iTunes as it organizes music great and goes with a great Konfab widget for covers and song info but it lacks at speed and works a little buggy (the widget). Winamp, on the other hand does lack in such programs. it's a little weird to get your covers then rename them and then put them in your album's folder. not for me I think.

#268510

That's the default Windows XP style.

If you have a folder.jpg in a folder, Windows will show it as a folder's miniature icon.

#268513

I guess everyone knows that. I was reffering how practical is to use amazon as a cover source for a program instead of manually organazing 'em.

#268522

You're right.

#268523

hey carlos ...this seems like a great idea. I will definitely be looking out for the full release of this program! I'm using samurize cd covers at the moment ( i dont like itunes much ... love winamp so samurize is one of the best alternatives for that ), but have become a little dissatisfied with the program as it is not so easy to manipulate. Also it lacks controls, something i've loved with avetunes. For me this seems like the best of both worlds here. Easier to manipulate than samurize, works with winamp, and gives me the ability to control play from the cd cover. Also the jewel case look is very nice!

Ok a long rant there ..basically i'm very happy bout the development of this program!

Thanks for the hard work man!

#268529

nice....was lookin for something like this.

#268589

The first beta of Winamp CD Case is ready for a test drive. Only 80 Kb. The "Readme.txt" explains all features and invisible buttons. I hope you enjoy! Thanks in advance to Brainbug (author of the CD Jewel Case).

Please, post bugs and suggestions.

Due to bandwidth issues I had to post it in my Yahoo page:

Let me tell you Carlospr......U R GOD!!! I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see someone give Winamp some attention..................especially with regards to an album art program. iTunes is just fine and dandy but it's a pig and runs like one as well. I've been hoping for something like this for Winamp forever...........will continue to watch this thread and willing to give you any feedback you may need during continuing development of this app.

Thanks,

Nate Dogg

Thanks natedogg, khalsa and Aworldapart for your kindness.

It's nice to see a forum where members intend to help!

#268679

Carlospr.......I'm having some problems with this but I'm certain that it is nothing major. Just wondering about the album art itself........does it have to be something other than a .jpg that we use? Also, I may not be naming my album covers in the exact way for them to be recognized but you said to use one folder per cd and then include in the folder the album cover as well...........any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Nate Dogg

#269358

hey carlos, yeah i'm having some of the same problems as nate. I have album art included in each album folder entitled cover.jpg. However i still get an empty jewel case. Also i cant move the case to a different area of the screen! Everytime i try to drag and it, it disappears. Any ideas on what might be causing this. Thanks!!

#269427

1. Cover issue:

The program will look for the default Windows XP folder image: folder.jpg

But you can configure another pattern: Options>Cover>Alternative Cover

If you use to have a cover.jpg image in your folders just write it down as your alternative cover

2. Move/Exit/Invisible buttons

The Readme.txt explains all about invisible buttons.

Just move your mouse over the case: when an action is possible the cursor is changed to the hand cursor and a tooltip will be shown.

Anyway, to move the case, move your mouse to the left part of the case. The hand cursor should appear as well as a tooltip text. Press, hold and move as always.

I'm testing in two PCs and all went fine.

Maybe I will let the system tray as default, so it will be easier to get access to Options and even help.

If you have any suggestion please let me know!

Thank you for your feedback.

#269499

Hi Carlos,

Your app works verry well except moving. I move the mouse cursor over the leftmargin of the case. The cursor transforms into a hand and the move tooltip appears. But when I hold the mouse button, the case disappears, but remains in the active processes and cannot move. Maybe the program interacts negatively with other processes (e.g. Windowblinds, Objectbar, etc.). If you want, I can offer a HijackThis log.

#269533

Thank you for details.

The issue is related to the taskbar position and the magnetic border of Winamp CD Case. The "move" only works properly if taskbar is at the bottom of the screen.

I've fixed the bug but I had to take the magnetic border off for now (it will take more time to fix).

You can download the fix here: ****File removed due to beta 1release (02 Apr 2005)****

Please note: just replace the "CD Case.exe". Don't delete the required image files. If you need them, download the program again, then replace it...

#269546

works great carlos!

Amazing progress on this release.

I was wondering though, is there a way to make this program load when one opens winamp. I tried manipulating the options available but none seemed to do so. Also i get the occassional error, when i close winamp. I have cdcase configured so that when you close winamp the cd case closes as well.

Hope that helps... :)

#269570

Aworldapart,

As you know, Winamp CD Case can start Winamp. If you have a dockbar (or something like that) just point the link to "CD Case.exe" and you can keep the Winamp icon... That's the solution for now.

Regarding the bug, I've already fixed it. I'll post a new build at the end of this week.

Thank you for your feedback.

#269742

Thanks Carlos. Your patch makes Winamp CD Case functionally for me.

#269901

How are some of you people who are having success with this app naming your album art??? No matter what I seem to do as far as different naming schemes I cannot get it to show up........if someone would be willing to help me I would be very appreciative. I have always been a dedicated Winamp user and now this perfect app comes along to display album art and I cannot get the ****in' thing to work.......

Thanks,

Nate Dogg

#269918

natedogg,

If you have a folder.jpg image in your folder's song and even though you are not able to see it it's because the image file is hidden (file attribute or property).

I think I have good news. I've added the ability to read even hidden files, not only normal ones.

Please, download the new build and copy to Winamp CD Case's folder, replacing the old one:

****File removed due to beta 1release (02 Apr 2005)****

As I've wrote before the official beta 1 (build ??) will be released at the end of the week.

#269981

Carlos!!!

I finally got this to work so disregard the PM I sent you....................of course it was something STUPID...STUPID, so STUPID on my end that I am not even bother telling you how simple it was to fix. I'm happy and I really appreciate all of your help!
