[preview] Rk Dock

I put up an experimantal build which will allow you to select the 'Show new applications' option in the Behavior tab.

that option tries to emulate the Mac new applications showing in the dock,

you can right-click on each item and you can select: Never show in dock, or Keep in dock much like you would do in Mac

this may be an unstable build since I didn't have time to test it enough...

because yesterday night somebody stole 2 of my car's wheels :( and I had a lot of declarations to do to the police and stuff...

It was really weird to see a whole bunch of icons show up in the dock. :)

It worked.

#248540

Worked, although it drove in the pathetic point that I really don't have too many programs running...they're all on the dock.

One suggestion-- the icons should remove themselves after the program quits. Case in point: calc.exe . I started it up, the icon showed beautifully, quit it, and the icon still showed beautifully. Wonderful effect though!

I sense you are about to enter a hall of greats :P.

#248546

But I have one little problem every time I reboot my pc i't goes back to the default options even though I check save on exit.Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this ?

#248547

i went through and re wrote rkdock.ini so that it uses those settings everytime

#248548

Is there a way I can make it save my setttings ?

#248550

Where can I get the newest Rkdock I think I may have an old one.

#248557

Good job on the new items function. Now all it needs is to hide the ones that you haven't put stay in dock on yet. That and to get the largest icon out of the .exe's that have large icons available.

#248559

Can anyone tell me how to make rkdock save my settings ??

The ini file seems to revert to the settings held in active memory when you quit, so any changes you make and save while the dock is running get written over as soon as you quit the program. To get around this, quit the app, make your changes to the ini file, then save. Then restart the app. You should see your changes.

Thanks It worked :)

the new feature of showing new applications works great, except if it cant find an icon for the program. it will add it to the dock fine without one, but if i try to "Never show in dock" it will crash RK Dock.

what can i add to the ini to remove it?

#248580

YOu can add the item like the others in there at the end with show = excluded

like:

[RKDockItem]

type = shortcut

name = rundll32.exe

link = C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32RUNDLL32.EXE

show = excluded

I have a question for Raduking: I noticed it doesn't write the item into the ini until you pick stay in dock. When you do though will you put it so you can remove stay in dock from it from the right click menu which keeps the entry in there but with visibility option set to only show when the task is open? You could put a check next to the stay in dock option if needed. So this way only totally new never before made into shortcut items appear at the end and ones that you had as shortcuts appear where they last where like on OS X.

that doesnt work for the feature im talking about... i just added a few apps to the ini like that, and restarted it and they still show.

It would be nice if you could implement a way to change the icons of the feature "Show new applications" so you can choose which icons certain applications should have not just the standard ones. So you don't have to go reshack every .exe you got...

#248632

trying the new feature "Show New Applications"

  • I agree with nightcrawler, it would be nice if new icons would disappear by default
  • you are adding all the running application to the dock, but some of them (e.g. yzshadow/yzdock/ctfmon/mailnotifier) maybe should not. Can you get the same list that appears in the Task Manager Application tab ? that would be perfect.
  • btw, rkdock appears in the same list... and it's considered as an application by Winplosion (Expose clone)

Another thing: I haven't tried with other desktop switchers, but with MS Virtual Desktop PowerToy, everytime I switch between to desktops, the windows in the desktop I'm leaving appear minimized in the dock... multiple times if I switch more than once. This is maybe due to the way MSVD handles desktops, minimizing windows and hiding them from the taskbar (exactly as your Launcher does)

I found a bug with the "show new application feature"

The RK dock icon keeps adding itself to the dock again and again. After 20 seconds I have like 10 icons of RK dock, and after 30 seconds, 30 icons and so forth...

Have you noticed this problem?

Your PC spec is 8 or so years old... it can't run TODAY's applications with full speed.

Buy a new PC.
