GraphicsPath + ImageBrush + Warp maybe?
[preview] Rk Dock
Raduking, is that screenshot like on OS X where it makes a new icon that is the screenshot and then removes when you click on it or is it like in objectdock. I hope it's the OS X way, if it is could you put it on the other side of the seperator like in OS X? I am hoping for [shortcuts to apps (arrow to indicate open apps)/tasks if process is not a shortcut (again with arrows)][minimized windowsfolder shortcutsweb linksor documentstrash can]
very nice man cant wait till final
cant wait man, you are amazing, this app is amazing, I just cant wait for it...
you're the king raduking ![]()
can't wait for the release....
I'm curious though how you will handle the Cease and Desist order from Apple? Or what makes this different from Yz Dock?
since he won't distribute Apple's icons with the app and its name will not be something with dock, it shouldn't be a problem with Apple. When Mr Yz released Yzdock, he included some of the icons from OSX that's why he got a "letter" from Apple.
I would like somebody to make a default icon set for this app that resembles the OSX ones (like the Snow.E)
raduking may be you should contact with FOOOD. He makes awesomes icons or mattahan the Gant Icons collection creator
I uploaded a version which is capable of launching apps and minimizing to dock without any effect... yet ![]()
Wow thats amazing, i love how the slideing of icons works. very nice when you minimize a window, icons just slide apart. Once speed improvements get going its gunna be great!!!
(the autohide is perfect as well)

This is great, as far as layout goes all it needs now is to show tasks that are not already there as shortcuts next to the shortcuts with arrows underneath and little icon badges on minimized windows and it'll be PERFECT!
This is just a though, an idea I had recently. For the finder icon it'd be nice to be able to set it to monitor one task but launch another when you click on it so someone could make it monitor a certain app (like one that provides their desktop icons) and then launch the file manager of their choice when they click on it. Is this at all possible?
Anyway awesome job keep up the good work!
*edit* I figured out my own way for the finder icon. I put the link to my shell (litestep) which put an arrow under it and then put an argument for it to launch a folder to my "home" folder.
Its looking very good.. the mem load is the same as OD but the way it magnifies and everything is pretty sweet
the minimizing looks good too
this is gonna be the best once all the functions are done keep it up
does the argument line work on the current ver??
It doesn't seem to, I made a command to launch a file manager to a folder and it works (as an argument) from the run program window but not when I put the command into the argument line in rk dock.
*edit* I don't know if this is just me or if it's a bug but the minimize function doesn't always seem to work, sometimes it stops until I restart the dock. *edit* it seems to happen when I launch a program from a different program.
Just a couple suggestions to make this thing more accurate:
One thing I saw on the movie at this page that I thought was pretty neat was how when you have a window open an icon appears on the left of the seperator, and then you can choose to keep it there or not. It would be cool if that sort of feature was put into this program. Also maybe with an option to remember an image to always use for a program even when it's not on the dock.
Which link has the working launcher?

It's already almost perfect to the real functions as it is it just needs for tasks as regular icons to appear to the left of the seperator with an arrow underneath if they aren't shortcuts already. The thumbnail area on the right of the seperator on OS X only shows minimized apps as thumbnails. That's where the geniescale effect comes into play and the reason why arrows are used to show which icons are tasksshortcuts that are open.. I may have misread your post. =p In any case if you where talking about what I was just talking about (which I kind of see you where) I already mentioned this.
*edit* I think I figurd out my screenshot problem but not 100% sure. I had a task dock on OD+ open and it set to thumbnail tasks and I think that might have conflicted with RKDock. It seems to work better now that I disabled that.
except with only the finder as a shortcut and the 3 next to it would be tasks (they are shortcuts on that shot of course with all 3 programs open). Of course if I choose to keep (for example) itunes it in the dock it'd go right next to the finder icon instead of to the far right. But then again the task area could probably be made customisable as to where to put it just like the minimize area is.
*edit* forget that, I removed the other dock completely and it seems to still stop working if I open a few programs, minimize them restore them and then close a program. And it seems to only happen if I close a whole program rather than a window that belongs to a program like a miranda IM message container.
P.S. I apoligize if I seem demanding or anything like that, I'm just excited is all. I don't want to scare anyone away.
;
WOOOOOW, I love this app, just wow....I just want one more feature, and thats beeing able to right click a app icon (witch is ope) and close it from a popup menu...
right now the speed may be a bit low but that's because I don't use any GDI+ CachedBitmap's for drawing.
I'll update that as soon as the functionality is complete.
would somebody sumarize the requests for me please ? ![]()
@raduking: I don't know if this only happens to or not but it seems that the dock can't capture Looca and Firefox when it's minimized, apart from that, it is amazing, thanks Raduking for spending his time working on the dock.
firefox works for me, I dont have Looca,
would somebody sumarize the requests for me please ?![]()
Here is the list I have, taken from all 19 pages of this thread. If anyone thinks I have missed anything or have something to add PM me and I'll drop it in.
RK Dock Request List
- Genie!
- ObjectDock/YZ-Dock/AveDesk plugin compatibility Or a Docklet programmability API of its own, interface based (pure virtual C++ class or COM) plugins instead of C-API plugins.
- Be, at least partially, open source.
- Avoid ObjectDock+ bloat to be lean and fast.
- harware acceleration
- Link with objectbar/samurize to allow on the fly positioning/hiding of the dock.
- Fade in/fade out hiding of the dock.
- A tasks section that would allow drag and drop like the window taskbar. Like if I want to drag a file into photosthop... i could drag the file onto the photoshop icon and it would show photoshops window...
- OS X Dock Task management (i.e. they should be right next to the shortcuts and only show up if the task is not already a shortcut with an arrow under it)
- An option to change the range of the magnifiaction
- performance to run on 500 mhz computer with magnification.
- high quality icons, not like objectdock's custom engine.
- taskbar on the right part of the dock like objectdock
- stability
- "DockBar Group" (Like windows taskbar grouping but it must be support it icon or default window thumbinal image) options into your RK Dock?
- For the finder icon it'd be nice to be able to set it to monitor one task but launch another when you click on it so someone could make it monitor a certain app (like one that provides their desktop icons) and then launch the file manager of their choice when they click on it. Is this at all possible?
Newly added (thanks to nightcrawler 1089)
1)Avoid Apple Legal (look into illegal Mexican immigration options).
2)When you minimize all windows(Windows + d), have the dock stay up even if “Always On Top” is unchecked
3)Stop conflicting with kkmenu—if Always-on-top is enabled, they “fight” for ordering. I’m placing 10 bucks on RK, any other bets?
4)Dock appears with mouse-over when Auto-hide and Always-on-top are disabled.
5)Disable text shadow, or make it more realistic
6)ActiveTitle with ObjectBar
7)Foreign Language Support
8)Winamp/PS/Nexplorer minimizing
9)FXP/NAV crashing on minimize (also, write program for “Save Windows”
Not priorities:
Other transitions
Lots of hosting
Different indicators
Thank you Tricky
Tasks should NOT be in their own section, they should be right next to the shortcuts and only show up if the task is not already a shortcut with an arrow under it. I don't want it to be like objectdockmobydock in layout. =( Perhaps it should be a task thing that shows a task with an arrow under it if there is no shortcut but can be moved to any place on the dock like the minimized area already can (which I mentioned before but it seems to have gotten lost when the requests where "compiled") So it would have a task thing which can be moved around and a minimized area thing which can be moved around. I think that would please the people like me who want Mac OS layout and those who would want other layouts (OD, Moby).
I've got one more thing after that though, and that is little badge icons on the minimized windows. And the minimized window area should be kept as it is in layout. In other words I think the layout should be more true to Mac OS which is the direction it has been going already rather than the layout everyone else has already done which would then make this a rehash. And that's not why I like it.
BTW, I don't think OD is bloated it just has extra features such as flyout menus and tabbed docks which when you add features it always makes a program a bit bigger than a program that doesn't have those things. People ask for things like tabbed docks and then complain when they put them in calling it "bloated". When people compare OD+ to Y'z or Moby they neglect to think how those two have less things than OD+ either that or there is a stigmata around it for that version not being free. "This thing is bloated in price so it's not leanly and fastly going into my system because I'm not getting it!!!"
I kinda think Moby (no offense) is more bloated with less features, it's slower and more flakey. My tabbed drag thing style dock has 5 tabs with 40 icons or so total and it takes up 2mb in my task manager. I don't consider that bloated. Anyway, sorry for going off on a tangent. It just bugs me when people say things that are not nessesarily true. ![]()
