[release] Nexplorer 1.85 Beta

Sorry to get such a stir going, but like I said..."don't take it the wrong way".

vneuman, Your finder is excelent, and I've been following your project since you first posted your "yet another finder clone" post. I was not telling you that someone elses work was better than yours. I was just putting my two cents in on the "finder clone wars". I beg you not to stop because, alllthough you may be hitting a few bumps in the road, your finder is the most advanced. Take atest drive with the other finders and run em' to see what you like and don't like about them. Like I said, I am simply the "end user", and maybe if you take a few days off and play the role of the "end user" withother finders, it will give you some insight for yours. Even some of the worst apps have some good qualities.

One suggestion about your 3 computer limitation...."VMware". I have a virtual machine for every major windows release since win95, 3 Linux distro's, and a full cygwin setup. (and coming soon... Mac OS X on PearPC) This way I can troubleshoot problems on diferent platforms.

Keep up the good work and for gods sake don't stop. NeXplorer is the hopeful in this "race".

People, what does the title of the topic say? It's 1.85 BETA !!!

It means the software is supposed to be BUGGY and beta testers are supposed to find out those bugs and report.

Really? If its supposed to be buggy then you've pretty much failed as far as I'm concerned ... other then a couple minor graphical glitches (that have been discussed here adnauseum) and a couple of things that haven't yet been implemented its been running pretty much perfect for me.

#166659

Sorry for ranting. Maybe I am not mature enough . :(

Anyway, I agree that I need to take a break and probably be more careful about releases

I would test my app more thoroughly from now on and release it when I'm pretty confident.

And don't be upset even though your post is not replied by me. I will read all of your posts and I will try to correct most of bugs you reported in the next version.

Thanks for your comments

#166663

have a good rest and thanks again for your fantastic gift: NEXPLORER

@vneumann:

don't get us wrong, man. every negative comment from us only intends to help you make this program as good as possible. the amount of feedback indicates our excitement about what you've done so far (and our greed, too).

i've got tons of comments and suggestions, but i'll leave them for later. just wanted to let you know that you can add me to your list of happy users.

have a nice day!

just kiddin, keep up the fabulouse work.

VNewman... you can take a time... a rest... as far as i´m concerned, NeXplorer is perfect enough to use... so, ppl like me (that can´t live without NeXplorer anymore) can wait.

About your app, it´s one of the most fantastic thingsa i ever saw... beautiful, skinable, and, most important than everything (and the point that put it even more ahead of any other FinderCLone) it´s perfectluy usable, is useful, and user friendly... i love the way you can, fast as a drag of mouse, creat a new shortcut, delet it and everything else. Just amazing your work.

Is there a Jetblack skin for NeXplorer, or am I just not finding it? I've searched everywhere and I can't find one. If there is one, can someone please post a link, and if not could someone please make one?

Thanx

Lately my fear has been that you're going to end up making it too good and end up with C&D order from Apple ... like what happened to Y'z Dock :(

vneumann if you need to take a break man, I personally love your app, and I've replaced explorer with nexplorer, to me it's so much easier to use this than explorer. I'm very glad that you're give us updates and give us so many options with this program. I use this on my P3 933Mhz rig and it runs very smooth and is low on resources. Even though I don't do any desktop modding on my gaming rig, I have replaced explorer with Nexplorer on it as well. If you need to take a break, I'm sure everyone will understand, but please don't quit. I honestly plan on using this and any updates to it as my explorer replacement.

By all means, take a break! Quick question (to anyone)- how do you make NeXplorer your default explorer? I know someone released a .reg file, but I can't find it. What should you back up?

Again, this is just a great app! Everyone (well, every developer) get's a little tired. I know it may not seem like it, but you are allowed to take breaks!!

Thanks,

There is a way to make it default? Cool!

Another question: how do you change the size of the icons (in the panel)? Mine are also really pixelated (the icons in the panel) is there any fix for that?

#167024

juno, go to: folder options/file types and change drive, file folder and folder items to open with nexplorer.exe. Some people advice that you should backup the registry entries for those three.

a tip: when done, you can always open windows explorer pressing win+e.

@mntnbkr1065: I'm curious, what did they say?

#167041

Please do anything that you need to. Relax, take a break, or whatever floats your boat. Just don't quit on this project. It's up there with all the really great clones of Mac apps. Keep of the great work. We support you (even though all you ever hear is complaints  ).

Could someone please help me with this (unless it was already answered elsewhere): How do you make the icons in the Finder larger? I mean, I've seen pictures from others, and their icons are much larger than mine (More OSX like than WinXP). Is it because of their resolution (Mine is 1280x1024) or is it because of some kinda of setting? Also, is there a way to force the Finder to 'remember' that I like the 3 column view versus one of the other two? Thank you for any help.

Answered by nightcrawler1089. Thanks.

Here's my problem

I only get a white box when Nexplorer is active instead of a icon, I do get a icon for my HD and My Documents folder, my computer and network, but everything else, comes up with a white box.

On 1.7 (Which I currently use as my explorer replacement. ) It shows every icon

There is no way (so far) to get NeXplorer to remember your view settings. This has already been requested, but I don't know where it's going.

To change your icon size, click the action button (to the right of the view selection buttons), and go to "choose skin." Change it to whatever size you want. However, know that changing this will also change the size of the icons on your desktop, and the icons on your start menu (but not in the "All Programs" part). If you want to change it back, the default size is 48.

My question: Where are the three registry entries that you need to back up located?

Hope this helps,

I would just back up your whole registry. But the three keys that are changed when you make nexplorer default are located here:

hkey_classes_root

>drive

>folder

>directory

those are the three keys that are changed. If you ever need to change them you can open up the registry editor... selecte hkey_classes_root then scroll down to

drive >shell> show in finder (or whatever you named your command to open nexplorer)

You can edit the options like the path of the shortcut or even delete the key altogether (if you want to go back to regular explorer). Just make sure you only delete the part that you added (the "show in finder" part) Do this for each one and you are good to go.

make sense?

I updated my panther perfect skin (fix shadows and some other things)

get it here:

#167254

hey i was wondering do u knw why my nexplorer could possible not let me view the skins i have downloaded apear in the change skin box. They are all in the right folders too!

#167304

Do you have nexplorer installed in more than one directory on your computer. In some cases, Nexplorer may be pointed to the wrong directory. You would have to check in your registry if you have this problem. If this isnt it then I would try restarting nexplorer. If they still dont show up then I would try uninstalling, reinstalling and then adding the skins. Let me know if you still have this problem

by the way,

the registry setting you need to check is located in

hkey_current user

>software

>>nexplorer

Look what is says under install directory. Make sure that matches your actual install location that you are putting your skins.

#167309

same problems as some have up, withe window says home in the taskbar but changing colors doesnt solve the problem.

could this be related to dual mon setup ?
