@Everyone: HELP, I need somewhere to put my NeXplorer skin but there is nowhere on deviantART to put it, can someone please host it?

I think you can put on DeviantArt in SKIN IN PROGRESS section (there are other Nexplorer skins here!) ;)

#166332

Thanks for the help. I'll post the skin in a release thread in the skins section here.

#166335

Awsome... this is just awsome. Great job!

Question: Can you make an EXE that has no "UP" text? Because I made the "UP" button transparent and simply dont want the text of that particular button to show up. Dont get me wrong, I still want the "back" "action" "view" and "search" to show up. Thanks in advance.

I updated my perfect panther skin yesterday. I reworked the background, corners title bar and especially the sides.

You can find it here:

http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?s...opic=16099&st=0

In my previous skin and some others posted the sides are too wide. Check the pictures from this site and compare them to my skin.

Let me know what you think ;) (in my thread of course not this one)

A small bug- When you roll up NeXplorer, the thin grey bar on the left side (which basically defines where the app ends) does not appear. See the screenshot if you don't understand what I mean. Also, the shadow on the upper right side is misplaced when in roll-up mode. Again, see the screenshot.

It's a great application no matter what!

//Edit: All skins are 1.861, but I am using 1.865//

#166449

yup that is why. I will update the skins when I have a working version of 1.865. I cant do it until then ;)

#166452

why did you make the roll up button only roll up the toolbar? i checked my power book, and it makes it go to the panther theme and no toolbar. but great work anyhow. and how do u get text to show in the toolbar?

#166538

To get the text in the toolbar, right click the toolbar area and select "Toolbar Text."

#166541

nope, its not doind anything for me :(

do u know what the .ini comand is?

FIXED, thanx

So please nobody take this the wrong way...

Nexplorer is without a doubt, one of, if not the best finder "CLONE" I have come across, (and I've tried all of them), but has anyone used the newest Looca finder? I think this is the most functional, and speedy finder. What it lacks in options, lables, and config interface, it makes up for in stability, useability, and speed. This is the only finder that I been able to successfully replace explorer with. (Yes I backed up my 3 reg keys first. :D)

I was really into Nexplorer until the skinning engine was changed. After that, it lost some of stability and seemed to get a little buggy with the scrollbar. Being a frequent linux user, I have grown very custom with double clicking on the titlebar to shade windows up and down. I do the same in windows with windowblinds. When the new skinning engine came about, I couldn't do that anymore. The little pill button to shade the window was really slow. Thats when I started looking for the "Perfect Finder Clone", again.

That's when I came back to Looca. With the newest version, it intergrates explorer menus, that it didn't do in 1.7. Before that it was kinda useless. I wan't my PC to look and act like a Mac as much as I can mod, but not at the cost of functionality. There are some Finder Clones that mimic the Mac Finder as much as posible, but They are usually very useless. Then there are Finder Clones that look like the real thing, and function well with MS Windows.

I am not a programmer and do not attempt to be... I'm an "end user", therefore I wanted to rant about the pro's and cons of some of my Finder Clone experiences. After all, isn't that what you developers want, feedback?

#166615

@All: please take it easy, everyone has right to post his opinions. No flamebaits, please.

@neosublime: I agree with you in most of your points :( I just keep waiting with patience.

Problem with looca 1.99 take 40 second to load. Search not work like mac. icon not show in 3 column. Also many list error out of bounds.

Problem with Nexplorer 1.86 text get erase when scroll up. I

Skin engine so slow. change view so slow.

But Nexplorer very near perfec for me. When all bugs fixed, I will make default explorer.

People, what does the title of the topic say? It's 1.85 BETA !!!

It means the software is supposed to be BUGGY and beta testers are supposed to find out those bugs and report.

I'm working alone on this project and I have only a couple of computers to test my app so I just asked your help to make it a better program.

You guys say it's slow but I can't help it. I don't mean any disrespect for other finder clone developers but there are reasons other clones are more stable and faster.

Except for Felix, all the other finder clones are just using Explorer as the browsing engine, and explorer uses all those cachings and undocumented optimization. It's like comparing my work to that of bunch of talented Microsoft programmers who know all the secrets of the operating system. You remember how fast nexplorer 0.9 was? It was because I used the explorer as the browsing engine too! But soon I realized that the best I can do with that is just the explorer with a finder frame. It is really hard to customize explorer mainly because it is really poorly documented. There are browsing engine components sold out there made by professional programmers but you can hard ly see much customizability in them.

Maybe I should start a poll. WHAT DO YOU REALLY LOOK FOR IN A FINDER CLONE?

If you don't think all my effort is worthwhile and you'd rather have a speedy explorer based finder clone, I'll just discontinue this project and disappear gracefully.

#166641

Don't stop, vneumann! It's a great app- people just can't help commenting on speed. It's what they look for in a finder... Anyway, I really think you should keep developing. This is the only finder that is being continually developed, and I really like it. Speaking of bugs, I found a small one concerning shadows. See the previous page for details.

Again, this is a great app!

#166642

yeah, Don`t Stop dude !!! keep up the Good work you`ve been doing man !!

i like it. but maybe the people can`t understand you, first you don`t want to read Request, but bugs, and then you get upset because the bugs ??? ... i`m not telling this cuz this is happening to me. i accept what you say all the time, ... so .. but maybe the other folks.. you know.

but anyway, you have done a beautyful work so far. i don`t see any reason to stop this COOL app !!!

yeap ! :)

Nexplorer's speed is fine for me, all I would truly like that it doesn't have is to be able to control it from other programs like objectbar (perhaps through command line options which don't launch program if not open) and for the window class to be changed so I can put a task list in window menu that filters out everything but nexplorer. Then there is the fact it needs an out of state focus for toolbar\titlebar buttons instead of dimming them (doesn't look right with some themes like the one I'm making now).

Everything else I mentioned like a normal border and nothing else for mini mode and zooming in and fading icon when launched is just niceties from the real finder. I hope you don't give up on making this finder. I think it's worthwhile, this is the only finder clone I have actually considered using especially after it has gone through a few revisions.

#166646

i'm using nexplorer from the first beta avaliable. and i have all his betas in a special folder. it realy rulez!! wndows xplorer maybe is more stable and more faster but it sucks hard then we talkin about the apearence. nexplorer is the best. keep doieng it dude!!! u're da man! ;)

#166650

vneuman, maybe you just need a bit of fresh air, to rest a little. For my experience, this is by FAR the BEST finder clone EVER. I have a PIII 800 and it works very fast and stable, I use it as default explorer. We want (I want) something nice and easy to use. Macintosh Finder is that way. I love just to press abutton to go wathever I want. I like to change my shorcuts from time to time. I love my labels. I absolutlly love my panels view. Please vneuman, don't stop. Your work is excellent. So many people can't even dream to have your skills.

Take a break, but please, don't stop.

If you decide to stop it anyway, I just want to say thank you, Thank you very very much.

vneuman rules!

#166653

the speed is extreamly acceptable for me and have no problems with browsing

its excellent work, and if you need a break then take one because you deserve it.
