anarchi5t...what are the specs on your computer? do you notice a big slowdown with 1024*768? I have a 3 ghz machine w./ a gig of ram...ati all in wonder 9800 pro video card too if that helps.

same specs except GeForce4

and I didnt notice any slowdown infact in the nightly build it seems better I lifted my redraw to 50 and it seems a much better balance....

So do you have to partition your drive before installing? Or do you do the disk manager thing Gameboy said while installing and that partitions it?

don't be fooled. if you were to make it 3 times that, it would not be 0X120000000, ok? it's Hexadecimal... not Decimal... decimal would go like 98, 99, 100, 101. Hexadecimal goes like 98, 99, 9A, 9B and 100 would only come after FF as in FE, FF, 100.

don't go just putting numbers in there. had you tripled that (ending with 0x120000000), u wouldn't have 3Gig... but 4 Gig of RAM.

ahh...thanks for the clarification. must look like I know nothing about computers. will have to take a look at hexadecimal so that I can undestand it one of these days. something I haven't picked up in coding yet

Well I did use Darwin first and encountered no problems and when entereing the installation the partition was already set up and ready. Some people have said that they can do it without Darwin although some say that Darwin fixed a trouble installation.

Id say try it without Darwin first and if you encounter a problem get Darwin because it is a large download and better if its avoidable.

Thats a different tutorial the information I gave pojo what he needed for his question.

If your at an ealier stage then it obviously wont help. The only step before this is partitioning. The original posting of the HD was non-bootable so it was removed if you have downloaded the newer version then there is no need for any of this its all done you just install Mac.

If calculations on HD space are done correctly you shouldnt need to swap partitions and it should boot instantly. I used Darwin and my partition was in the right place first time and I booted straight into the Mac Installer.

The tutorial on PearPC is still the best in my opinion simple and if all is done correctly save all the hassle.

Like I said, I'm not sure if that tidbit I posted would help, it just seemed like it gave instructions on re-ordering the partitions

Just for the record, in case anyone is as much of a n00b as me, I'm following the tutorial in the link above using the HD image attached to it, so far, I'm still installing OSX 10.3 and if the installer is anything to go by, I've got 2hrs 36mins left.

I'll post again to let you know if it works without darwin.

there are so many damn partitions going around, 3 gig, 6 gig, 3 gig reordered and bootable, (the 6 gig of that is around somewhere, where I don't know :ninja:)...I have at least 3 different partition files on it and b/c I don't have panther yet, I can't use any of them!

I actually have the opposite problem, I can't find a usuable partition. I have Panther, but I can't seem to get a good partition for pearpc to use as bootable. I'll keep struggling with this...but I did find a good config file creator, I don't remember what the name was anymore, but it was pretty slick. Open it up, select your video options, your RAM, your drives, hit save and run. Just that simple. Anyway, I'll post more when I get a usuable HD partition.

CD Burning Program -> Files onto CD -> Create Image File instead of Burning real CD -> Mount into pearPC.... bingo !

And the good news is that it now supports networking in Mac OS X clients!

They just posted a usable 3 gig partition thats bootable on those forums. Don't know if theres a bootable pre-made 6 gig one lying around, but because I'm still waiting to get to burn OSX, I have time to check these things out I would use the 3 gig bootable, but I'm afraid I'm going to run out of space on the virtrual drive once osx is installed.

I have 2 of the config file creators...haven't used either of them yet. I guess we'll see how they go once I actually get osx *grumbles*

if you want that 3 gig bootable and can't find it on emaculation (where I got it), shoot me a pm with your e-mail and I'll send it over to ya

I got me a mac! :woot:

For those having issues, I'd recommend following the tutorial on emaculation (I've posted a link about 10 posts back).

You don't need darwin, all you need is a working iso of Mac OS 10.3 Disk 1 and 3GB spare on your disk. Also I used the image file attached to the aforementioned tutorial.

It took me about 4 1/2 hours for the install, and it all went smoothly so don't be put off people.

I edited the config file...tried 512 of ram and it worked. seems like pearpc can't support over that yet; fooled me becuase of the slider in pearpeeler. I have a gig and I want it to work damnit
