Aqua-Soft Forumsactually i was usually using 640x480. i used 1024x768 because i think the apple would make a good wallpaper. it does, actually.i will post it up on my web site soon.

Edit: *grumble* Adding this because some idiots on Neowin seem to think that the word "download" automatically means warez. When I said download I meant "download PearPC and the pre-prepped disk image from Emaculation's forums" not "download a warez copy of OS X".
Looks like it might just get to work 
Maybe hopping to a stall and grab a copy of OS X may just bring good in future (ie. when pearpc or any other emulators gets well-developed)
if anyone wants to know how to disable the text that i thought originally was an error message (it isn't) just remove the -v in machargs. here's a screenshot of it booting without -v.

I'm assuming this darwin program is a sort of partitioning software? or am I wrong? I see you can install OSX without Darwin...but does that mean I have to have the OSX iso? also...is there a way to run PearPC at larger than 800*600 resolution? I'm running 16*12 on my comp here...and 800*600 would seem just a tad small 
if anyone would mind answering these for me, I woudl be eternally grateful. otherwise, I will just keep looking around those forums

First of all Darwin is the core that OSX is built on
putting it basically Darwin + GUI + Apps = OSX
What you are downloading is the installer CD which can partition your HD using Darwin. I would recommend this it does make it easier when installing Panther. either way you will need a set of OSX CDs (10.2 or higher) to format the newly partitioned drive and install Panther.
Try the PearPC forum on Emaculation.com theres some good tutorials on there.
as for the resolution you can edit the config to go up to 1024x768 but this creates further problems >.<

1.) do I need to partition either of my hard drives? both are NTFS, one is a RAID Array and the other is just a storage drive. ideally, I'd like to run OSX off the storage drive, though I'm not sure if this will create problems. am I going to have to partition that drive?
I am checking out the tutorials right now. One claims to be able to install osx *without* using darwin. Darwin or no Darwin, I will at least to have CD1 of OSX 10.3, correct? I have read that CD's 2 and 3 are additional cd's, but I'm not sure if they are used in the install process at all. I'm assuming I have to have a burned ISO copy of 10.3...hrm...wonder if I could run the iso off my HD using Daemon Tools...

You need to download the 3GB HD from PearPC, DOnt use the 6GB as its not supported and it does cause problems. You will need to shorten you OSX installation to under 3GB I got mine to 1.5GB . You wont need much more than that as OSX is not really useable yet

Extract it to you computer it will download as 5KB but extract as 3GB so stick this on whichever drive you wish but you can only use a virtual HD. Configure this file in your config and then partition this with Darwin.
Then boot your OSX CD and run the disk utility and erase (format) the drive to Mac Extended (non-journalised if you can) whether you use Darwin or not you will need the OSX CDs
A quick tutorial....
Config the virtual HD as the HD in the Config
Configure your darwin.iso as the CD
Follow these directions http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/installdarwin.html
(Dont install Darwin only partition your drives with it)
Change your config to your CD image osx1031.iso
Boot the osx CD and select disk utility from the FinderBar
select disk2 and erase then select Extended
quit the disk utility and select the HD visible in the installer
continue with the OSX installation....
your config drive should look like this
pci_ide0_master_installed = 1pci_ide0_master_image = "MacOSXPanther.img"
pci_ide0_master_type = "hd"
pci_ide0_slave_installed = 1
pci_ide0_slave_image = "osx1031.iso"
pci_ide0_slave_type = "cdrom"

neither download seems to be working. both opendarwin/apple downloads are stalled at 0% in leechget (great download manager btw). theres a darwin7.02.iso.gz on overnet...that isn't downloading either. ah well...I guess I wait. this is gonna be a looooooooooong process! lol
Hi. Been gone a long time & sorry I can't stay long... yet. But I thought some of you may need help.
You Don't need Darwin. Even the 6 gig image will work great. Just go through the installation process and at the point where you're supposed to select the Destination drive, click on Installer on the Menu Bar and select "Open Disk Utility". You should see a drive and a cd icon on the left side. Be sure the drive is selected and then click on the Partition tab. Partition the drive with whatever name you want to use. Quit the Disk Utility and now you should see your drive on the Install window. Select your drive and before you click on continue, make sure to select Options first and Select the Erase Disk to format it to Extended. Now you can continue. Good luck.
Not sure who said the 6 GB image had problems... it works fine.
Loaded 10.2 in under 4 hours and will be running the upgrade CD to 10.3 tomorrow.
As for usefulness... it's not as bad as you would think.
No networking under windows... that sucks, but it does actualy move along very nicely.
Not bad considering I'm running this on a PIII 1.13 Ghz laptop.
You just need to play with the refresh rates a bit and stay as far away from 1024x768 as possible.
I know it looks tempting, but it really does slow things down alot.
Wreaks havoc on my laptop video card as well. 16 MB ATI card.
Anyway... like I said before... it's still only an alpha release.

I have Mac 'Panther' running on 0.2 for P4 running and it is VERY smooth and quick
Lifting the memory limit come in handy as the dock and exposé are responsive and actually useable and the finder resizes in almost real-time now (Y)
There are still some slight redraw issuse with labels & dock but other than that I havnt run into a single problem!

i imagine if it's possible at all, you'll have to establish a connection via system preferences. but you should check the pearPC page to check the limitations. for certain there is no sound at this stage of the game, as you can see from the release notes.

Sound emulation is not possible yet and Network is only available on Linux
i havent had problems with the 0.2pre (nightly from the 18th - EXE time)
seems to me there's a SLIGHT VERY SMALL TEEEEENY performance boost. but really neglectible.

anarchi5t...what are the specs on your computer? do you notice a big slowdown with 1024*768? I have a 3 ghz machine w./ a gig of ram...ati all in wonder 9800 pro video card too if that helps.
