because this is not in anyway emulating Mac OS X - is it illegal? you are still required to have a legal version of the software to run it? - Or do we move into the grey area.....
Thing is slow, darwin has been installing for the past 2hrs.

I believe we move into the grey area. After all wasn't it apple that shut down Y'z dock? It had nothing to do with Apple software...
Maconlinux is not very helpful, since it doesn't emulate a CPU - it only runs on PPC machines.
Sheepshaver (official, setup guide) is the best substitute, it runs 8.6 in Linux very nicely.

It's early, so I assume this will get better as time goes on. But hey, it's OPEN SOURCE, so contribute some code.

You have to have Mandrake Linux to be able to run it but that can be downloaded.

By the looks of the file it is looking for it want a disc image to run off of, that disc image is most likely mandrak linux.
It doesnt seem that this project is going anywhere fast but hey, its a start!

Edit the PPCCFG file and replace the missing values for your disk image.
"test/imgs/linux.img: could not open file" means you are using the example cfg file and have not made the needed mods to make it work.
Yeah i messed with it for about 20 seconds, i didnt even really think about it. I read the post about it being super slow and realized it wasnt worth it.
For Darwin only load, not toooooo bad.
But yes... still really slow.
But then again, it's only a 0.01 release soooo.

From what I've been reading, it works to an extent. People have been getting various results trying it out. Most don't get Pear to boot the OSX install at all. Some get partway into the install, but can't get OSX to find a usable partition. Some do get OSX installed, but can't do anything because it freezes or has a kernel panic. But it does boot. I'd try it, but I don't have a spare computer I can use.
Apple can demand legally? Is a "Mac OSX for the masses"... and won't like to Apple... >.
I've been installing darwin for the past 11hrs, so...
At least we can say someones taken the first step towards OSX on a PC....
