RK Launcher 0.3 - FEATURE REQUESTS

I thought belgrano offered to or was already doing this (see post 143)???

The list is done, I passed it to Raduking, I have to bring it to date and post it here so everybody can see it and does not ask for the same features over and over again.

OMG!

Thanks thanks thanks!

I'll cover you with gold!

I spent ten or more message in saying "this feature has already been requested" or something else.

#289633

Good for you. i wonder how much money you can get if you recieved a quarter for every "already requested" feature request post. :D

#289636

thank you very much belgrano you're doing a nice job with the list ;)

one possible step in that direction would be to have the default behavior of new applications be to have the "same instance" box checked.

This would be awesome...

It would also be great if it could remember information about applications that aren't always kept on the dock (not sure if that has come up--probably has).

Yes, this is indeed a feature I would also like, now applications that aren't always in the dock will have there default icons, which are mostly ugly, and will duplicate the instance when clicked as this option also is not saved making this not very usable as the taskbar.

Could you please add the option... using the screenshots of the windows you capture & minimize to the dock, to hover a "preview" (a larger... maybe 40% to original scale) of the minimized window above the docked screenshot in the launcher as your mouse pans across each mimized item? Like in a "tooltip" fashion, only with a little more style? (Scale animate this and I would be speechless :) )

P.S. I'm still curious... are you planning on implementing the scale effect to work during the restore of a window? Currently, I really enjoy the minimizing scale effect, only wished I could apply a setting to use that effect during the window restore.

I would really like to see an architecture in this app to allow for resources, such as windows screen captures (used for the scale effect & minimize to dock) to be able to be recieved from, and/or passed to/between applications... i don't know if I'm explaining this right, but, say for instance, an expose clone, like TopDesk could interact with RKLauncher in a seamless manner, "exposing" minimized windows in RKLauncher, and or putting them back to the dock again! All those flying windows ;) Think about it... "Show desktop" would be so cool.. I was thinking, if there were a way to make all those windows screen captures to be global resources available to each app.. it surely must make a positive contribution towards performance, no?

just my wishful thinking *crosses fingers*

you guys realize that that would take a lot of memory ?

are U ready to pay the price for that feature ?

mmmh for each application, the executable path, the label, the icon path, couple of options... 5kb overstating, ok for me :)

You don't need to cache the icon of all the application that aren't in the dock. :P

You only have to recall the .png file once the application is started.

#292368

tztztz... why not take the other way:

- convert png's to icons (with AveIcon)

- open ResHacker and replace the Mainicon with your new one in the app...

... and you're done ;)

#292406

this may be the best solution, you're right.

#292487

@Larsen2k4: It isn't always possible to replace icon in exe with icon that contains different sizes than original one (original sizes + 128x128 which is the best for docks).

Yeah, I know... but it's much better than killing memory with a 100 MB Launcher ;)

#292586

It would be great if we didn't have all these things popping up on the dock when a package is being installed. For example, every installer opens multiple executibles, and it would be great to keep them out of the dock automatically. Obviously each installer has different files, so "Never show in dock" won't serve a purpose here.

#293266

Well...here's my 2 pence...how about a simple little option that prevents the dock from being minimized by the "Show Desktop" button in Quick Launch.

Right now, when i press the "Show Desktop" button all windows get minimized, as well as the dock itself.

EDIT: I know about the "Always on Top" option, but i dont want that enabled. I want to prevent the dock from being minimized :-)

#294637

I think this is a very very important part of any dock or launcher that's currently not in RKLauncher-- The ability to drag a file onto an application's icon and have that app open the file. By the way, this dark is by far superior to any other dock I have tried. I love the new application feature and the compatibility with Docklets. Keep up the amazing work, Raduking!

#295101

that's exactly what i'm working on right now :)

i think it'll be available in a nightly by monday next week... since I'll be away 3 days

no internet no computers for 3 days :)

#295173

Woo-hoo...drag and drop onto a dock icon item is one of the "big two" missing features keeping me from ditching Yz Dock...the other is being able to hold down the left mouse button and after a slight pause get a menu listing of the contents of a folder dock item. Can't wait until Monday......

#295175

a small thing:

when a new application appears, its label is set to the executable name. Would it be possible to set it to the window title or, if this is not feasable, at least to strip the ".exe" from it ? :)

That would definitely work along with the ability to remember items not kept on the dock.

#296212

I think good quality icons IN the executables + better labels could make me forget about the "remember items" feature :)

More random ideas:

  • what about an Application Icons subfolder with icons named after the executables ? when "program.exe" runs, then launcher looks for Application Iconsprogram.png and loads it. If its not there, it gets the icon from the executable -> less hassle with the configuration, less data to keep in memory
  • maybe the same with small ini files with label and options for each program not kept in the dock ? if the file does not exists -> defaults !
mmmh this could actually be interesting: when you choose to keep an icon in the dock, you delete the file and add its content to the item.conf, when you delete an icon from the dock, you dump its information in a program.ini file in the configuration subfolder, so they won't be lost !

#296223

the only thing i really want, is just for msn conversations. That the window is gonna jump to get your attention... then it's fine for me :P

#296657

Please, add in following release "a exception of minimization in dock" as my Finderbar conflict with your RK Launcher. And thanks for great App!

#297365

1. The ability to change the icon showed for each application in the minimized windows to dock
I'd like to see the custom icons of the apps in the launcher instead of the default ones in the minimized window.

It could also display the actual icon of the window, instead of the icon program(see pictures attached) and, if possible, make it to change in real time.

While doing the screenshots I've encounter a bug: if I minimize and later maximize Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004 to the dock all the toolbars and windows dissapear and I have to configure again.

Thanks for this great dock btw :)
