RK Launcher 0.3 - FEATURE REQUESTS

Great job on this dock so far raduking.

As well as the other docks I'd like to suggest looking into the features of Mobydock but probably more so MD (other than the original osx dock of course). Although MD lacks regular docklet support and is very buggy it does have allot of great features and is very tweakable. Take a look at the dock items property menus of MD alone and you'll see what I mean. I have yet to see as many options in any other dock. One of the many features I think everyone would appreciate is the ability to have multiple icons represent multiple windows of the same program. For example if a person uses outlook express and has a stamp as the program icon when they create a new email the new window icon instead of being the same stamp could be an icon of a letter or an envelope etc...

Outside of the features in other windows docks I'd like to see:

1. The built in ability for the dock to create it's own screen margin like the windows taskbar so when the dock changes size maximized windows will also adjust so they wont cover it unless the dock is not set for always on top or is set to auto hide. With that the ability for the user to adjust the distance between the dock and the maximized window or turn the margin on or off.

2. (I think someone said this before) The ends of the dock not to go past the edge of the screen unless multiple monitor support is on so that all dock item are always visible (unless the dock is magnified) and accessible. Right now when the dock gets full I can’t see or reach the dock items that are past the screens edges. OD and The osx dock shrink as they get full to avoid that problem.

3. The ability to turn off minimize to dock. Right now if the dock crashes my running minimized programs and windows disappear with it. And have an exclusion list incase people want to leave it on but not have every single thing go to the dock.

4. The ability to turn each feature on or off.

5. To be able to change the size of the dock by clicking and dragging the separator.

6. Let the user have a choice on whether to have new running task run on the taskbar side or the launch side.

7. Any exclution list to be accessible from within the dock setting menu so that edits can be made on the fly.

I’m sorry if this stuff was already suggested but I just had to get them off my chest.

This might be a weird request, but a request nontheless.

If the dock could sit on top the taskbar, that would be cool. For example: Say you have your taskbar at the bottom, and the dock on the bottom, the dock would sit on top of it, and if you had the the taskbar on the top, and the dock on the top, the dock would sit right underneath it.

It'd be pretty awesome, at least I think.

No, make it possible to configurate this app to be 1:1 as the OS X dock.

I see no objections to extra features as long as resource-usage & responsiveness keep reasonable.

It doesn't make sense to exclude cool features/improvements just for the sake

of mimicing Apple's os behaviour. Btw the real OS X isn't all that great

Just include enable/disable option features to these options for the users of RKLauncer.

as one can choose the use of icon magnification or not or autohide.

A hook that if the application 'blinks' for your attention on the taskbar, it's icon bounce on the dock to get your attention EVEN if the dock is hidden

To me is a feature missing in all current docks, and is one that prevent me to completely hide my taskbar.

This application works more fluent for me than ObjectDock does, wow.

I am switching after this further in development.

One thing I'd like to see would be more transisiton effects, like the genie effect on OS X.

another few requests.

- -not limited to rectangular windows, because there are some windows that are still captured as rectangles even though it's not, so it captures part of other windows or the desktop.

- and autohide delay like the one in objectdock.

- -bounce effect can be still avaliable even when in autohide mode

- -and msn messenger chat window bounce up when message is recieved.

the objectdock icons can be seen bouncing when in autohide mode, and therefore i can still tell which person on msn is still talking to me.

- -change whether icon will bounce or not and show running triangle or not.

I am already happy with 0.3 features, hope next release will 'complete / improve' them.

Actually it is a dock i think he named it launcher so he wouldn't be in trouble with apple.

After using it a bit longer the way the label is drawn is the only thing that looks unsmooth as compared to the rest of the dock. Meaning the outline, shadow, interior color. Maybe use the same method as yz or something similar. As is if you don't have the border and shadow the same color the text looks well ugly no disrespect intended just my personal opinion.

If no one else agrees with me then keep doing what your doing and I'll get used to whats there cause overall this is an excellent app launcher.

other than that can't really find anything else I want that isn't listed already

more right click menues, like real icon right-click options like close application, and other menus that are normaly found for normal icons. objectdock has this feature.

edit: just found out that rklauncher has this and i thought that it dosen't have it because of the icon that i tried, whcih is finder that comes with the download and that dosen't have much right click options. just some more functionality with right - click like close application, etc.

Here are requests of mine.

1. Icons should bounce if corresponding windows make signals on Taskbar (even they're minimized on RKLauncher dock). Current version does nothing if you get a message in your messenger or some app finished its work. Minimized windows also keep silent.

2. It would be nice to assign icons for applications and filetypes not kept on the dock.

3. Icons labels should change if corresponding windows change their titles (for example, try to minimize Winamp on the dock and change a song with global key - dock icon won't change its label)

4. Animation on startup and shutdown (like OS X Dock does). Of course, it's eye-candy feature and not so important.

5. OD docklets support (perhaps)...

Better bounce animation, Close app. to work(maybe it only not works for me?), and hopefully an even better looking minimize/maximize animation, also the bounce should be accodring to how long it takes an app to open(hopefully it's possible).

a feature/bug. i think it's moreof a feature request. more game capadibility. i think it would be a lot easier if you have

if warcraft3.exe is running, set the dock to the desktop. if warcraft3.exe is closed, revert to original configuration.

therefore, not having the dock inturrupt the game, and having it so much easier to switch to desktop and game mode.
