RK Launcher 0.3 - FEATURE REQUESTS

I'm a long time Y'z Dock user. Since it's no longer being worked on I decided to give RK Dock a shot. The features and options are great. I love everything about it EXCEPT the "smoothness" of the magnifying icons.

Are you using the latest version of RK (0.4 beta build 134)? The earlier version was kinda choppy, but I find the latest version to be just as smooth as yz. cpu utilization is identical for both too, so you shouldn't see any more choppiness with RK than yz on a slower computer.

The only time I notice RK getting unresponsive is if any other processes are using the CPU. For example, run something like LAME compressing an mp3, and notice how you can't use the dock at all until the mp3 is finished compressing. It just freezes... but when its responding, it looks just as smooth as yz.

First let me say beatiful work..very very nice.. that said I have a couple of requests.. would like to see some attention to task swtching for non minimized windows.. one possible step in that direction would be to have the default behavior of new applications be to have the "same instance" box checked. Personaly I would love to see the click hold menu solution just like on the mac. Also I would like to see some changes to the way the focus is handled.. i like the presStart application for showing the start menu when the taskbar is hidden.. right now though I can't get it to work with RK Launcher cause the focus makes the start menu disapear..again though beatiful work..by far my favorite launcher app.

OK a couple more requests...It would be cool to have some litle apps included that would just change some specific setting like turn magnification or auto hiding on or off..also it would be really cool to be able to specify certain application that if they are running to hide the dock

Not really no... I just think it'll be a cool feature to be able to have both options. It could always be setup so that the user has an option to choose whether they want to minimise to the Windows Taskbar, RKLauncher or both!

Well... I think it would be nice if RK Launcher didn't respond to ALT+F4. I tend to use that a lot, and if I happen to have my mouse in the launcher, it'll exit and my minimized windows are gone.

Also would it be possible that New Application Icons are created at the end of the dock rather than somewhere in the middle like I get at the moment. Maybe even after a new temporarily created separator. I think ObjectDock does something similar to this.

You can do that already! Go to RKLauncher.conf and in the settings for behaviour you have "newIconPostion = -4". Change that value and put it as it suits you best. I think <-1> value shows new apps at the right end of the dock (next to the RB) and the value <0> shows them at the left end of the dock.

And for God's name, stop saying OD has this, Yz has that! People tend to forget 2 things:

1. Rklauncher is still in beta phase - that means not all the features are implemented yet.

2. Rklauncher does not try to compete with OD or Yz, it tries to emulate best the dock from Mac OS X!

I didn't mean to imply that ObjectDock is better, I just wanted to give an example of the problem. If I didn't agree that RK Launcher was 1 of the best dock emulators out there, I wouldn't be bothering with the forums to give my views. I personally think raduking is doing a brilliant job and hope he continues the great work.

yeah i request this feature too:

* because, windows's taskbar is the best ( faster) for switching windows quickly.

* and RKLauncher is good for actually see what (inside of) windows that was minimized, it will be even better if those minimized windows thumbnail are updated in realtime (version 1.0 maybe?)

a feature for rk launcher. having higher minimize accuracy with itunes when itunes has multiplugin installed.

This is a wonderful app...even in its beta stages!

I'm not sure of the feasiblilty of this request, but it would be nice if when the launcher is hidden (auto hide on) it would relinquish a significant amount of its resource usage, until it is next called upon to act.

it could be done, yzdock for example do this.

but i think this would take more cpu and hd usage...

I would like to have mouse events on OD Docklets, and sound asociated to it. Like dragging files to a folder in the RKlauncher or the trashbin.

Hi, sorry if these requests were post before but there are too many already and gets a little confusing

1. The ability to change the icon showed for each application in the minimized windows to dock

2. Dock should remember the place where de minimized windows go, example, i want them all always to the right of the separator, instead, if you dont have any item on the right side of the separator, the windows get minimized on the left side every time you start the launcher

3. This one is tricky but i have managed to trick a little my y'zdock since it comes with configure files in txt format, but with the launcher formats .conf is not that easy.

4. The ability to show the content of an item by holding the click in it when dealing with folder items, etc just as yzdock

5. What about some more features like adding some sound efects when the item bounce or when the windows are minimized, etc. I mean it wpuldbe nice to have a launcher with a sound effects included

it would be nice to have a setting that sets margins for the area that a maximised program can cover,

with this setting also being adjustable. This can be done using a script with HSI but it would be nice to have it intergrated in the one program
