RK Launcher 0.3 - FEATURE REQUESTS

* It should be able to run OS X with a G4 like speed

* A laser to defend from evil robots.

* A fan for warm days.

#269770

RKLancher doesn't support cyrilic (and other non-ASCII) names and paths. It would be fine to fix it.

#269907

It would be nice to have smoother animation like in ObjectDock.

I am using RKLauncher because it's better at replacing the OSX dock than ObjectDock.

#269985

Just a little one -

- The ability to exclude an app from minimizing to the dock. Id like to keep iTunes on my taskbar for example, its the only way it reports to MSN...

#270289

Another small feature request / minor bug fix:

If a context menu overlaps the dock, the dock will act as if it was a regular mouse move when you hover the menu up and down. This is irritating. While this misbehaviour is common with all available docks - ObjectDock would even take the menu selection as a docklet click - I'd like to see RKLauncher give it special treatment, if it's possible at all.

#270446

a feature that forces the windows to either be not minimized, or in the dock. there are some minimized or unseen windows that aren't in the dock or visible. i can't use all the windows.

very difficult to describe.

#270454

Drag to trash feature

I would like to see this done if you happen to support avedesk. So i can drag the cd desklet and dropit on the recycling bin and it would eject the cd, same with external HD's and flash drives etc, just so i can eject my ipod and external hd and any usb key that gets pluged in to the comp.

that would definatly make it more mac like ;)

#270463

Don't think anyone has mentioned this one... when using autohide, why not have the ability to define the entire bottom of the screen (or top, or side, or whatever) to trigger the dock to appear. As it is now, when I bring my mouse down to the bottom of the screen, it only raises the dock if I'm over the area that the dock takes up. If I'm too far to one side or the other, nothing happens. I have to remember how wide I have the dock set to be, and only mouse over that area.

#270771

or maybe most of the bottom. i'm saving the corners and a bit around that for expose emulation. i need that corner for activation expose. i don't want interference. but having nearlly all of the bottom of dock to activate would be a nice addition.

#270867

I do not know if it has been said but drag and drop will be good.

drag a file on a folder and it is copy/moved inside.

drag a file on a application icone and it is run.

I failed to do it with this app (Mobydock has it, objectdock not).

#270883

drag and drop for sure.

#270889

oh yea. if dragged a picture like jpeg or png or bmp, the picture will be shown on the dock instead of the file icon.

#270899

I haven't seen this posted, so here goes...

- On a shortcut to a folder, say My computer, a mouse wheel click opens a menu with all the folders and files on the computer (my computer, remember?). The menu scrolls to show all the drives, folders, files, et al.

This is a major feature of yzdock, IMHO. Not that this is a dock, mind you. it is a launcher, and maybe a launcher shouldn't behave that way. At least not in this day and age... now in my fathers day... but I digress.

My two cents worth.

Registered on aqua-soft JUST to say how much I like RK Launcher. Seems more stable than Y'z and OD on my computer, both of which tend to get slow after a few hours use. I love the way that applications pop up in the dock and disappear again.

My main worries are about focus:

-The launcher takes focus when the mouse moves over, but doesn't give it back. It should return focus to the topmost window when the mouse moves off.

-Similarly, the dock should give focus to any application it launches [more or less the same thing]

-On OD, I used MenuApp (http://www.desktopapps.co.uk/menuApp.html) to create flyout menus. I'd drag the menuapp.exe to the dock, set the picture, caption and working directory for the shortcuts. Clicking on the icon pops up a menu of shortcuts within the directory. I'd have different icons for programs, favourites and games. When I try this on RK, the icon pops up the menu, but then RK launcher steals (or keeps) the focus, closing the menu straight away.

-I'd also like to see autoraise for the dock, so it pops to the front and then goes back to the back, like Y'z dock does (but this isn't so important).

And also it should save it's settings straight away, not on exit - I keep losing the current settings when shutting down my computer.

Sure I'll think of some more soon. Looking forward to 0.4

Note to the forum administrator:

A poll would be nice (and here I mean a "must")!

Because there's features that are more important than others.

And I'd like to vote for the following, which still keep me using Y'z and not RK:

1. On a shortcut to a folder, say My computer, a long left-click ot a mouse wheel click opens a menu with all the folders and files on the computer (my computer, remember?). The menu scrolls to show all the drives, folders, files, et al.

2. Minimize to Dock exclusion list per application (it'd be best to be done with a right click when minimized in dock - something like "Do not minimize to dock") or better - more accurate minimizing - see ICQ windows for example of bad minimizing.

If I see these two (and I'm sure they'll be implemented) - I'm with RK forever :)

This request is for management of these in mind:

(for: folders, images, videos, music, documents, content etc..)

(Not for: .exe's, drives (well, maybe this would be interesting for thumbdrives, CDs,) etc..)

When you drag a folder/file onto the dock.. a dock item representing that folder/file (now: FF) appears on the dock..

  • behind the scenes, the FF's properties "hidden" attribute is set. effectively making it seem as if the FF was just completely 'placed' on the dock. Now when dragged off the dock and dropped back to some location, the FF would be either: moved (if dropped to a location that was different than its original location,) copied (if Ctrl + released,) deleted (if the dock item was dragged to the dock's recycle bin,) or it's properties "hidden attribute restored to "unchecked" (if destination = original source location.)

  • There would also be a right click menu item: "put me back" that 'returns' the FF to where ever it's original location was, even if you are not at that location currently.

  • There would also be a right click menu item: "Open containing Folder"

could this be implement? ..just a humble feature request.

#271474

Just one small request : perhaps someone has already asked for it earlier :D

Could you please implement a systray a la Trayserver.exe ? I'll pay for RKLauncher if this feature is implemented and works sucessfully.

I have used OD+ and it lags like my grandmother's grandmother. Can't get the trayserver to work successfully with ObjectBar, so I'll be more than happy to support you for all your hard work :)

#271493

the only thing that I really need is better font customization, especially with shadows and edges, it looks horrible with any of the Lucida font family at normal sizes (8-12 are the sizes I tend to use).

#271645

The only feature I'd like to have is not really a feature, it's more on the optical-side:

If you open an app on Apples dock the icon doesn't only come into the dock, but it bounces up one time, while it comes in.... so this would be very nice ;)

#272179

Amitsaraf is onto something.. systray support might not be a feature of the OSX dock but I'd love to see it in RK launcher. I've had problems with the systray in OD+ which was the deal clincher.. it's all that stands between me and getting rid of the taskbar :P

#272772

I wan't a option to lock it on the desktop, so it hides behind the windows but when I click the desktop button, it sticks on to the desctop..

And I don't wan't it to take control of my minimized aps.. I still wan't them to be on my taskbar, I only use this program for the looks :)

#272806

@ GordonNL :

Right click > Settings > Behaviour Tab > Uncheck Always on Top and Minimize to Dock :)

You could also try Automatically hide on the same tab - it probably does the first point which you mentioned. hope this helps somewhat :)

#272808

Forget about my request for the system tray support. I just discovered Stardock RightClick :) System Tray and Taskbar support included in the box and both work flawlessly.

No slowing down of my system or painfully recreating all my Objectbar customised shortcuts everytime I change my VS and OB. Yay !!

#273026

I don't think OD advertising is the purpose of this thread...

#273043

@ GordonNL :

Thanks, just still one thing.. When I press this button to minimize everything:

dasktop6hi.png

or press the windows icon + m on the keyboard, the app isn't visible anymore.. I wan't it to allway's stick on my desktop.. and I don't wan't it to automaticly hide, I wan't it to be allway's visible on my desctop..

Thanks
