I have a question to you guys.

What is the brushed theme that's closest to the real thing?

I have Xero's skin and Kol's port but they are a littlel off.

Hopefully we don't have to worry about it in the future.

Ave is working on a skinning engine that would be use in many apps

to be released here in Aqua -soft :)

The latest version of Looca, or atleast, it had a link for a VERY VERY good Brushed Skin, based on Aquarius Safari Skin, it was Called Mac OSX Brushed System, I think you should use something based on those great brushed skins, Safari, Shinters, Mac OSX Brushed System....

Simply amazing. I love it.

I would like to beta test it.

My e-mail is baby_papi_chulo@hotmail.com :D

Huh?

What do you mean?

........................................

There's yet another thing for beta testers to know.

You have to delete .lnk files in home directory and make your own.

You have to put a number in front of the name of a link.

That way you can put them in an order you like.

The number should not be shown in NeXplorer.

Do you want bugs posted here, or pm'd to you vneumann?

It looks great so far! But there are a few issues I'll post when you tell us where to post them :)

Chris

It can be a little bit embarassing for me but you can post it here. :)

I guess sharing ideas is better .

By the way, known bugs/issues:

There is a disk monitoring problem. I mean that when the contents of the directory change , the windows should notify my program.

It was really easy when I relied on explorer for that but implementing the monitoring myself was kinda tricky.

You will find that after you move several files, Nexplorer flashes too many times

or sometimes doesn't even show any change.

I am working on it.

There seems to be a bug whenever you open a folder. There are green bars that flash across the upper part of the app for about half a second (and then the folder opens). Sometimes there are orange bars. Sometimes these bars extend all the way down. Do you want a screenshot?

P.S: It's still a great app!

Great. :)

- In the normal icon/thumbnail view all the image previews are small, but when clicked they increase in size and cover part of the file name selection. Also, maybe there's too much spacing between the icons in this view? Maybe just leave the normal 32x32 icon view and a seperate option for thumbnails?

- The alphachannels in the labels become screwy when selected repeatedly, like the shadow increases in darkness until it becomes black.

- When switching between folders I keep getting green stripes in the finder while it's listing the contents of the new folder.

- Not a bug, but we can't select our own custom icons anymore via the sidepanel right click options :(

- 3 panel viewing works great, but like you said it needs the bottom scroller instead of individual pane scrolls. Preview is wicked :) But can it support alpha channels so the icons dont have black junk around them if they are 32 bit? That would look much better.

- Depending on the system skin, the selected sidepanel text may stay black making it hard to read against the background. Could you add options for picking your own selected/non selected text color via the skin config file? (same with the info text at the bottom of the window)

- Suggestion: Can you add customizable toolbar icons? With the various commands like delete, up, copy, paste etc.?

- I dont think you need the folder/drive text in the search bar, just add a checkmark beside the selected option in the dropdown menu :)

Thats all I can think of for now. Only other things I can suggest is to speed it up if you can, it has gotten alot slower since last release in the refreshing/listing of new folders :)

I love how Nexplorer reads into zip files, thats a great option. Overall, a solid release, I've only had one crash, and I'm sure thats cause I was clicking large folders too fast, after one another.

I'll be sure to post any more bugs as I run into them. Thanks for allowing me to beta test. :)

I might have forgotten to mention it in the first post .

You just drag a png file and drop on a shortcut.

The shortcut will use the png file as a new icon.

It got much slower because it requires a lot of overhead for drawing each item.

Maybe I should add an option for completely turning off any custom item drawing

(thus no color label) for speed concerened people.

I'm a lazy programmer so I didn't do double buffer drawing.

I guess double buffering will fix it.

Lol, sry for the pm, guess I should have checked here. I've tried a bunch of stuff and it's all worked so I am completely pleased with this version, I've had no bugs whatsoever except there are a few improvements that could be made. Also, if I want to replace the default folder icon, do I just rename the one i want and replace the old? maybe I should try it...

#151095

This is just unreal

The good stuff:

column browsing! Works like a charm although a little slow when browsing a folder like system32 which has 2000 items in it...

Works flawlessly with mobydock!

color labels!

drag an icon or png on to shortcut to change the icon

perfect mac item count

You supply the icons for the folders! So that eliminates the problem of finders not reading iconpackager! (youll see when you get it)

Bugs:

When opening using an avedesk shortcut... it shows up blank.

Would be nice to be able to use the keyboard to select something.. like pushing c to go to all files/folders starting with "c"

Need to be able to "hide" hidden folders.

Icons flicker black when in icon/thumbnail view and you click to change the drives.

This is a strange one... when I am viewing my desktop.. .if i add a color label then all of the drives dissapear. C: D: etc... only happens in desktop mode

When searching, clicking on the resize gripper and other areas makes the search end with 0 results.

cant rename files without clicking properties. (cant do one click and then another to rename)

It crashed once when i clicked back but I have not been able to duplicate this as of yet..

Also, it does not like very large folders... starts to chug when opening folder like system32 (took ten seconds to open)

this one is hard to explain... when using the mouse scroll wheel with the shortcut panel the shortcuts sort of "blink" actually the kind of act like an escalator in a shopping mall or a water fall. They all go up to the top then come down. hard to explain. Try it and you will see what I mean. Totally not a big deal though!

Nothing show in panel browsing for word documents.. .it is just blank and shows the info underneath

I am at a loss for words... I will post more when my head stops spinning. This app is that good.

oh, and it still seems lightning fast on my system!

amd athlon 1200 512 mb ram

I modified your selected image so that it looks like this:

here is the view for a word doc

#151097

Sorry Guys. I have to head out.

I will address your questions / bug reports tomorrow morning (in Eastern time US)

Thanks

me thinks it might be time to convert some of my skins to nexplorer!

thank you this is simply awesome!

I feel like a kid in a candy store or "instert corny feel good line here"

in multi panel mode:

it would be nice if the keyboard arrow keys could be used for browsing like on a mac

another bug:

when using mobydock... if the appp is running and you right click on nexplorer in moby dock to select "new instance" the new instance shows up blank.

keep up the Good job man !!!!

#151117

The app is currently unreleased, however there is a link for beta-testers to download it. And vneumann will probably create another thread with a [release] tag when testing is complete.

#151119

Just started to mess around with NeXplorer, but let's see...

I agree with the comment about the icon spacing... They're rather far apart, hard to browse folders with more than one or two screens worth of items.

The flickering while browsing folders actually gets a little annoying after a while, especially if browsing through a number of folders at a time. As you said, double buffering might be good.

Not noticing any speed issues (as compared to the original release) as of yet, but I only have 4 items in my sidebar. Will update when there are more. Also not using labels yet.

Drag and drop ROCKS. (Is there any way to refine it by adding a little horizontal "drop" line where the item would be inserted? Somewhat like Windows Start Menu drag and drop)

Within a single session of NeXplorer, if you drag the dividing bar to get rid of the sidebar, there's no way to drag it back (the window looks borderless on the left side).

But this is definitely a major update... I'll keep updating as I continue to use the app.
