It's old/outdated. and IMO very buggy....especially when bloating it inside Vista.
Vista didn't run on a past Toshiba laptop with 512MB of RAM and 100GB of Hard Drive space (4,200RPM). It also had a 1.36GHz AMD Athlon.
Theres your problem, that hardware is OLD. I can't imagine how you still have a 4,200RPM hard disk that is actually working and hasn't died. Lets not even go into the fact your using an AMD Athlon XP processor and more than likely the memory isnt even ddr200.
This whole IT DEMANDS TOO MUCH! deal happened with XP when it came out too, how easily people forget.
There are rumors floating about saying that the next Windows (Windows 7, or a.k.a. Windows 7) Will be UNIX-based. I would love windows to its full content if that were to happen.
I highly doubt that. It's so unlikely it shouldn't even be considered, let alone speculated. I hate it when people talk about Windows Seven/Vienna/NotEvenMadeYetSoDontBotherSpeculatingAboutSomethingThatJustBarelyStartedToBeWork

I don't think you understand that the kernal Vista uses and the kernal Windows NT 4.0 used are completely different. Just because Vista's kernal is based off of the NT kernal does not mean its the exact same thing, actually far from it.
Buggy...? Uhhhm..... no not really? Where are you getting your facts from? An article on Windows Me? I have a strong feeling you get your information from blogging. If thats the case then your being mislead. Blogs only consist of mainly one thing: That person's opinion. I'm sure you know that opinions don't exactly mean anything when compared with facts, because unlike opinions facts don't lie.
So in the end here... I understand your opinion is that the kernal is outdated, but thats the opinion of someone who clearly has a one sided way of thinking.

If that's your line of thinking, OS X is a dinosaur.
It uses the Mach kernel, which has been around since 1985.
The NT kernel has been around since 1993.
One of the top developers that helped design the Mach kernel went to Microsoft in 1991 to help with the NT kernel.
Both have been updated SIGNIFICANTLY since they were introduced.
Your logic is flawed.
The NT kernel is rock solid and always has been.
It's the abstraction layer that gets wrapped around it is where problems occur.

The hardware abstraction layer problem is a big one. I haven't bought Vista because I can't use my Creative sound card with it. Direct Sound, hardware audio acceleration for music, 5.1 THX surround, EAX, all gone. Replaced with DRM, software audio acceleration for music, complexity...

Vista kills XP in everything from simple searching to file management, security, functionality, better gui.

Same conlcusions here. That's the best windows I can remeber (and I began this Windows-adventure when it was v3.1) and because of few changes (mainly search) it is for me the biggest step forward that M$ has ever made.
I know that this forum is mac fanboy central, and reading this thread you all seem to make lots of false accusations about Vista regurgitating the bullcrap lies that I have seen on digg about a thousand times. But Vista has been great on my system. I have a thinkpad t42p which is a beast of a machine. Everything works great, no driver problems whatsoever and everything is much more responsive than xp ever was. The search feature is great and the finder in vista is better than any I have used, blows mac out of the water, which isn't saying much as the mac finder is its weakest feature by far. I have a triple boot config with mac os x leapard, ubuntu and of course vista and spend most of my time in vista by far. Overall it is a great operating system and has worked very well over the past year I have been using it both when in beta and now that I have ultimate.
I haven't bought Vista because I can't use my Creative sound card with it.

You're saying Microsoft should stay with an outdated design to support outdated hardware and lazy hardware vendors?
I'm sure there are other sound card manufacturers who will be more than happy to replace Creative as the sound card of choice for Vista systems.
Look at ATI... they are kicking the crap out of nVidia in sales right now because nVidia can't produce a single driver for Vista that's worth a damn.
Not Microsoft's fault... it's the vendors fault for not providing what customers (ya know, the people with the $$$) want.

I just got a pc upgrade with a Realtek HD Audio Sound Card, full 7.1 support and all. The drivers are very well done. I think that if anyone where to take on Creative it would be them.
