Anyway, I have a feeling.. a very familar feeling that it'll be broken/cracked/whatever eventually. Sure it might involve hardware modification but it will be cracked eventually.
My last beef with Vista is the DRM. I absolutely despise DRM and everything that it stands for. If I purchase something, then it is mine and I should not have big brother telling what I can and cannot do with it. This is the main reason I am a big supporter of open source and piracy.
I'll drink to that! I think vista is fine but the system needs streamlining and ironing out. I've been using it for a week now on and off and i have to say its not really making the best of what its got hardware wise. The OS needs to be a lot lighter. Also why did the design have to have such thick borders and such a thick taskbar?
Well thats my opinion...id rather just go for a macbook with leapord as it would involve less of a head ache with drivers and stuff.
Though i will need to get Vista or the codename Vienna eventually to play any of the good games coming out properly

Too far away, 128bit is useless, half the people that are using computers don't even use 64bit yet. Whats the max amount of ram for 64bit? 120gb? 128GB? You wont need more than that for a long time.

So you hate iTunes then? It would not exist if it wasn't for DRM.
Also, when you pay for a piece of music or video, you do not own it nor can you do anything you want to with it.
You are paying a license fee to USE it.
And it's common knowledge that both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates HATE DRM.
It's more work for them that they do not care to deal with. But they both don't need any more lawsuits either.
Vista incorporates DRM so the RIAA and MPAA will STFU.
And just like any technology, someone will find a way to strip the DRM info out of a protected file and Vista will see it as a non-DRM file and allow you to do what ever you want to with it.
Edit: And I have yet to run into any problems syncing my iPod with iTunes.
Got Vista Home Premium today on my laptop. Voice recognition is pretty cool. Some positives over Dragon Naturally Speaking (I have it installed on my XP desktop PC) and some negatives.
I have also used vista i installed it and from my point of view it does suck as of now yeah it might be great in security a bit here and there and yeah ofcourse it is gonna wipe xp off no poop.. its like comparing xp to 98 dont compare vista to xp ... my point is as of now i dont like it but who knows maybee it will get better ... its just so funny how ppl get so ofended over a comment made and guess what we are all entitled to comment and share what we think .... that is why this topic was started to opinion on it not throw a rage over a comment lol.... end point ... in my eyes vista sucks as of now

Aside from you saying it sucks you give no valid reasons as to why you think it sucks.
hmph. as a new OS you gotta give it some time to give it its deserved right to its potential. Gotta admit, at least MS finally woke up at its sharp decrease in Windows use to Mac OS X (which it good in my eyes).

i'm sorry but you can't judge this operating system just yet because it is only about 3/4 complete, wait until Vista service pack 2 before you do so. (either that or compare it to OS X 10.0/ XP without any service packs)

Classic. They had atleast 5 years to build and test (including 1 year of the general public beta testing) and this is the final product. There are not that many improvements. It's less stable, more expensive, drm-d out and either very annoying or unsecure (UAC). I agree that it will probably be a decent operating system in 2 years, when SP2 comes out. What amazes me is everyone running out to purchase and upgrade to this OS.

I'm using Vista Ultimate now for 10 days and I basically like it - compared to XP it's a big leap forward. I like the UI and a couple of more user friendly applications (backup, life cd etc.). I must also admit that with the installation of Vista a couple of things work again that have stopped working on my old XP installation (probably just overinstalled too many programs). And Vista motivated me using the suggested way of working (putting my files in "my files" instead of "d:datadocuments....".
You also have to be honest: Who expected Microsoft to remove DRM or other copyprotection? It's like expecting McDonalds making fat free burgers. Some things will never change: Security-updates, Service-packs, a scrambled registry etc. will as will always be part of Windows as well as a large number of available freeware and shareware, tools and tweaks, utilities and addons. So my opinion is: You can critizise Microsoft and Windows, but certainly Vista is the best of all Windows Versions.
Maybe..I guess if your comparing Vista regular with XP regular then yeah. But right now, I prefer my fully tweaked XP installation (even the visual styles) over my partially tweaked Vista. It has some catching up to do.. that's for sure.
iv got it have installed it and thought it was crap so iv gone back to xp for the time being probably will go back to it once it's a bit better coz no doubt it will improve

Windows Vista is a brilliant operating system, but like everything new the support at the moment simply isnt available for a few legacy hardware devices, and some not so legacy for example Creative sound products, theres loads of trouble with them at the moment.
99% of the features introduced with vista i could not live without now, for example instant search which yeah apple got to market first, but doesnt mean they pioneered [prepares to be flamed, and sent anthrax in the mail] secondly, the overall feel of the system, the aero gui, the increased icons/revamped icons - new way to navigate and find files, it all mounts up to a fresh user experience, and one that makes vista so easy to use.
Despite what people will tell you, this is a genuinely good release of windows, and as far as im concerned, Creative and other companies refusing to support products with drivers that work correctly under Windows Vista should simply be taken out and shot, then disposed of on a pig farm, as it shows how much they appreicate their customers.
Simple fact of the matter is, if you have loads of legacy devices find out if there is a compatible vista driver, vista has everything xp has and more to offer, i would recommend you switch but only when the time is right.
* when i say switch i mean upgrade your windows version, not move O/S manufacturer

i was looking forward to vista but this is what i think, its a complete copy off of tiger. google "vista did not copy off mac" and watch the video... you will see and for god sakes lol hes being sarcastic

It's not, it's a new OS. It wants to make more user-friendly choices, it just so happens a search is one of them. So what if Apple included a search on their OS? That's like saying every mp3 player is a copy off of the iPod, which if you believe so, I'm afraid you're too stupid be reading this in the first place.
It's a new OS, I'll install it when some driver support comes from my machine and I decide to upgrade my machine (it's a bit lacking).
I just wish people stopped caring what OS they're using. Lets be honest, all of us use a computer for a purpose. That purpose is supported by software, not by an operating system. An OS is just icing on the cake when you aren't locked into a single one. An OS is just a shell that, save a few features, is meant to get you to your apps as quickly and easily as possible.
People need to stop complaining about their computers and start using them.

I guess. The reason why I prefer my tweaked XP is because it's an inbetween style OS. It's not so much Windows, not so much Mac style. Heck there's elements of Linux in it too. The only reason why it's running as a Windows OS is as gnomexp said. Software support. I play games often on the PC and there's few Linux support without the use of certain well known methods (one which requires paying). I already had something like Vista's search for starting programs. I use FARR (Find and Run Robot). And I don't have much use for searching files on my HDD since I'm usually good about putting them in the right spot. Not to mention there's Google Desktop Search if someone really needed to find files on their hard drive.
So to me Vista doesn't offer me much of a bonus compared to what my desktop currently offers me. The only reason why I even have Vista is because it came preinstalled on my laptop.
But I do agree, it's a nice OS. And if I didn't have an already competly tweaked system I would probably prefer it more.

whats worse is that I cant even install ultimate onto a Fat32 drive, so I cant access it from within OSX (bootcamp), brilliant.
hmm now lets install bootcamp drivers... yep.... not compatible, joy!

Might as well throw my 2 cents in. I just installed Home Premium. Blah! First off, Visual Studio doesn't recongize my ODBC drivers, NO support for IPX protocol, witch is required for ANY LAN based games, and I happen to belong to a local LAN party group, so no game play for me. Limewire causes Aero to default to basic until it's closed, then goes back to the translucent. Vista thinks my Lynsys Wireless router is a DSL modem, witch its not, I have 8MB Cable internet, so I can't log into the router unless I remove my firewall.
All in all it's not tooooo bad. I love the interface, love the development kits for it and the ease of the coding standards. But you all are right, it's not stable enough for release. I'm starting to code a few things using the Vista SDK kit using the .NET platform. It's nice. .NET is much faster on Vista then XP I've noticed.
Another thing is Vista limits bandwidth to Limewire and Firefox. I downloaded a file from my server using both IE and FF. FF downloaded the file 76k/sec, IE did same file 578k/sec. (And yes I cleared Temp files).
