I'll begin with this,
I know nothing. But heres my thought on Vista:Vista's a drag queen; dressed up version of XP, nothing revolutionary Just a well 5year (overdue) makeup of XP. I purchesed Vista Ultimate the day it came out. And had been using the RC2 before hand. I have to admit its easier to run, but it just incorperates feautures from XP.
One thing that got me, is the taskbar. One of the last realsed xp (Media Centre Edition) came standered with 'Royal Theme'. Witch same as Vista, uses two colours (light blue/blue, lightblackgrey/black) with a line down the center, than a woovey-eye-catching design on the Start button.. Vista taskbar is just like the last xp, just with some spunk.. (i know this didnt matter to anyone whos reading this, its just been bugging me how little changes have been done to a very pricey and late OS)
Also the seach, is now an incorperated feature. Witch i liked, but is small upgrade from the Windows Desktop Search. (the worst is you have to keep the Start tab open as is searches, un-allowed to click outside the Startmenu)
Furthermore, features (such as WinFS) were held back from Vista (but for other ressons?) I personaly think Vista is to 2000 as Windows "Vienna" will be to XP. I think that Vista is the stepping stone to M$ next revolutionary OS.
But than again i know nothing so Im more than likly wrong on many levels
I love Vista, (not that i love drag-queens) I just think it;s not worth the money or time or upgrades until they realse a SP
Note: I'm going to try to not get banned again.
Let me see if I can hit all of your points here.
Royale looked good. Whether or not Apple fanboys/girls want to admit it, Royale was a clean design. It worked! That's why Microsoft decided to package it with Media Center Edition. It's only smart for Microsoft to work off something that's been proven to work already.
If you have the search indexing turned on, searching should be damned fast. There shouldn't be too much of a delay between you entering your search query and getting results. There's no reason you need to spend every one of those milliseconds doing something else; just leave it alone so Windows can give you what you want.
Yes, WinFS was scrapped from Vista. But so were dozens of other revolutionary features; if Microsoft had actually continued building Longhorn as it was in the 40xx builds, it still wouldn't be released.
Vista has better memory management than XP. It has better security. It has a more stable kernel. If you don't need any of these things, then yes, Vista is a waste of your time and money. However, in a few months when developers start writing programs that take advantage of DWM and Vista-specific .NET 3.0 features, you'll feel a little left out, sitting on your poor old Windows XP machine.

Im an Apple fanboy and I entirely agree with you. Royale is a great theme.. that tends to be underated.
The best thing about it is that it works great with all Luna skinned appz and looked quite fun, sleek and professional at the same time.... its glossy look and colour is refreshing...
Its just a shame it wasnt realeased with the original xp as luna (taskbar, titlebars etc) look a little tardy (IMHO) and clownlike.
i agree. the Royale theme is pretty good-comparing to the default standard theme.
Now, on my windows machine, i use the royale theme as a replacement for the almost 8 year old style that originally came with my PC.
i like it, and it makes me hate my PC less

Oh enough with this ****! I use Windows Vista and the truth is that this operating system is f***ing horrible!:mad About two months ago I bought a Vista laptop and at least it has crashed for about 7 times. Besides, it's very complicated i mean if you want to delete for example, an icon, there appears like 5 messages telling you are you sure? Like if that is going to prevent a hacker of deleting them, LOL.
I prefer the Mac OS and how many times I have to say it?! IT'S AMAZING! I mean, Microsoft does its best for copying Apple while them are years ahead of them, besides the Mac OS is much more classic, has better skins and user interfaces, and they're way more easy to use than a PC.
7 times? You didn't buy into those Vista-Handi-Capable cheap-o PCs did you? One with an nvidia card? And did you update your drivers? Or read up on some how-tos? You can turn all of the administrator protection off if you don't like it. It's there to keep people from f***ing up their pc and blaming Microsoft.
Mac is years ahead eh? Did y'all know Vista Business and Ultimate have a one-up on time machine? Same thing without the cheesey effects. All access through the right click menu!!! Speedy!
Frankly, both Mac and Microsoft are starting to slip. Nothing huge in the last few years. Even the iPhone is sort of a disappointment to me regardless of the provider.

:confused:What are you talking about the iPhone is the coolest thing I've ever saw, I mean, it's a blackberry with an ipod that has a GPS, weather forecast, and a thing similar to Google Earth. I do not say that Microsoft is bad, the Xbox 360 is amazing but when it's about computers, Apple definitely is better in hardware and in software.![]()
The iPhone does not have GPS. You have to tell Google Maps and the weather forecast feature where you are. It cannot determine that on it's own.
It's a cute toy, but a horrible phone.
It has "cool" potential, but Apple short changed everyone and released this thing instead.
An 8 gig hard drive ipod. Or 4. ![]()
As for M$ and xbox. I play with x-box live players on my laptop.
iPhone = ATT?????
Microsoft - 1
Mac - 0
the iphone for now, its just a pretty paperweight but; it'll grow. Its all that nonscene marketing, slowly upgrading to suck in every last dollor possible out of consumers pockets...
Vista has the potential to really suck if you dont know what your doing (ie. not turning UAC off) and arnt willing to spend the extra dime for a computer that can handle her
Yup. It's great for video, music, pictures and... games???
Editing software runs nice on it.
But the software also runs nice on my other operating systems.
Mac is just shinier. if shiny == OS then OS > all!
This is a thread about Vista, not Vista and OS X., or Vista and the iPhone. We really don't do the fanboy stuff here, especially not with that attitude, Quube LC. There was hardly any reason to bump this thread in the first place.

I find the OS to be alot better then xp i haved been using it since RC1 and i have not had to reinstall once while on xp i have reinstalled about 2 a week
woot NC gets sharp!
...good good.
blah. Vista is an innovative os, with many well implemented ideas, some they borrowed and changed, but after 3months its too annoying to keep over xp. It lacks a certain simple practicality and is overwhelmed by its new features. my final word.
I think it looks nice but runs horrible in my own opinion. It is my understanding that only on purpose would Microsoft release a far from perfect operating system as usual. Using this technique for sales seems to have made the company billions so why stop now?

Well, judging from your well put and very descriptive arguement I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you are using older hardware? Atleast a couple years old? Look, if you run a next gen OS with hardware that was produced around the time Windows XP was launched you are asking for performance issues.
Ok, I see where you're going with that arguement. It's all Microsoft's fault that your crappy Pentium 3 (i'm really gonna laugh if it is a p3) wont run their new OS well for you? The same way of thinking can be applied to a drunk wrapping his car around a tree and blaming the tree for the accident.
"It's the trees fault! If it wasn't just standing right over there I wouldn't have totaled my car!"

edit: my bad. i just took out the whole "img" things
Jesus...really I think that is all I can say...just like, damn!
Can't believe how much has changed.
Phantom those are Windows XP shots.... ![]()
XP is much better...
XP is much better...
How? In what way?
Explain your opinion.
Vista kills XP in everything from simple searching to file management, security, functionality, better gui.
I could go on.

I agree. Vista is lightyears better than XP. I might upgrade to Ultimate at some point, but Vista is good.
I never thought i would be saying this due to the fact that when I was on XP I was anti Vista for many reasons the main one is not giving it a chance. As of 3 months ago i bought a new desktop and came with Vista and so I have to admit I agree with rjohnstone .
" Vista kills XP in everything from simple searching to file management, security, functionality, better gui.

That is so true and I have been a windows user since 97 and now that i have vista the only reason i would go back to Xp and briefly that is...because its easier to customize not because its better than Vista.
I've had Vista on a past laptop. Vista is full of beauty, the only things I don't like:
-Still using the NT kernel.
-Poor Minimum Requirements:
XP ran well for what it was worth on 128MB of RAM and 3GB of Hard Drive space; along with a 300MHz Pentium.
Vista didn't run on a past Toshiba laptop with 512MB of RAM and 100GB of Hard Drive space (4,200RPM). It also had a 1.36GHz AMD Athlon.
There are rumors floating about saying that the next Windows (Windows 7, or a.k.a. Windows 7) Will be UNIX-based. I would love windows to its full content if that were to happen.
UNIX-based Windows...that'll be the day ![]()
