FindeXer

@Ashiaveli - do you have the VS2005 CRT's installed (as stated in the Readme)?

yes, installed twice to make sure but no go. will try copying to windows.

EDIT: putting it in c:/windows made it run and i love it! so cool!

one question tho, anyway to make the icons smooth? they are very jaggy regardless of icon size.

#405698

thx, this is quite handy

#405700

I'm very excited about this app, it's kinda love at first sight. :)

One thing that puzzles me is that if I run explorer from AveDesk shortcut, Findexer is displayed by default, but if I run it from the shortcut in Accesories/Windows Explorer for example (or press Start+E) it doesn't show up.

About the jagginess, I noticed it too, but the solution in my case was increasing icon size to 69.

*Raises hand* Feature request?

I know it's a stupid and hard to implement idea, but I'm kind of lost without the folder bar. A folder bar on the right would be very cool (but impossible, I know), or messing somehow with the folders button so that when it's re-pressed it returns focus to FindeXer NOT to Common tasks.

#405703

you can still open the folder view, unlike kabal's finderbar, this is a seperate bar- so it will just open ontop

also, in reference to philou's suggestion- i suggested something like this in the beginning of the thread, but instead of an icon overlay, why not just leave the selected item in the findexer highlighted- and when the folder is changed to one that is not in the findexer, the highlight disappears.

#405709

I noticed something...when the mouse passes over the bar, the window loses focus..it's a small problem but it can be annoying when working with a lot of files.

@Innova

If you make your own shortcut, or use another shortcut with the /e switch, it will open in folder view. That's what the /e switch specifies.

For example, if you create a shortcut with the following target,

%SystemRoot%explorer.exe /e, c:

it will open explorer with a folder view of your root drive (i.e., if your root drive is c:).

IF, however, you create the shortcut without the /e switch,

%SystemRoot%explorer.exe c:

It will open explorer in the root drive and FindeXer will be used as the default view.

I installed the microsoft C++ stuff then i droped the findexer folder in the programs folder after that I double clicked the register.bat it said that it succeeded installing,then I restarted. Opened explorer then clicked on view went down to explorer and did not see anything there just folders|search|etc.

I know you guys are excited and want a lot (I am too), but take it slowly with the feature requests please. There is already a list of features to be added on my site, and i don`t wish to implement a lot of new stuff before everything else is as stable and without bugs as possible. Just be patient and it will all come along... ;)

It's ok alianyn. I remember NeXplorer as cool as it was, but with many things to improve, and FindeXer is giving me such satisfaction in that way, that I don't want nothing missing. :P

Thank you again. ;)

#405781

I commend you on a fine program, especially one that came out of the blue! I love to see nice, stable apps.

May I move this to Other Application Releases? ;)

@alianyn

Thanks for a cool app, using loads :D

I'm not sure if this a bug or just my system, FindeXer stops working when I'm running winamp. What I mean stop working. I can open an "exploprer" window. However when I try and click on any of the shortcuts in the finderbar, nothing this includes My Computer, Desktop etc . As soon as I switch off winamp it works again.

I've tried a few other programs and this is the only one that's causing this problem/issue.

I'm using Winamp 5.24, on XP Home Sp2 installed, if that's any kind of help.

If you need any further info let me know

#405854

This app pwns! Thanks a ton :)

#405860

@applematic - sounds like the registry keys are not being written. what kind of antivirus/antispyware software do you use? what windows OS do you have installed?

can you make sure the following keys exist in the registry?

  • HKCR->CLSID->{377D8121-EFAA-4D1C-981B-8BFAD9F10DE3}
  • HKCR->FindeXer.FindeXer
  • HKCR->FindeXer.FindeXer.1
  • HKCR->TypeLib->{1AE216EE-934F-4078-A150-C3BCBD659C5B}
  • HKLM->SOFTWARE->Classes->CLSID->{377D8121-EFAA-4D1C-981B-8BFAD9F10DE3}
  • HKLM->SOFTWARE->Classes->FindeXer.FindeXer
  • HKLM->SOFTWARE->Classes->FindeXer.FindeXer.1
  • HKLM->SOFTWARE->Classes->TypeLib->{1AE216EE-934F-4078-A150-C3BCBD659C5B}

if these keys exist, then there is no reason FindeXer should not be available through the Explorer Bar menu. The only reason i can think of would be some security option you have set in explorer.

@NC - thanks, and ofcourse, I wasn`t really sure to begin with - if this should be posted here or there...

@mps69_1999 - i downloaded and installed Winamp (usually a foobar user myself), but could not reproduce your problem. could you have installed some plugin that is the cause of this? I installed the latest 5.24 version with everything on...

also, everyone who has been experiencing problems with default loading inspite of setting IE to "load 3rd party plugins" as Andreas Suggested - I may have discovered the cause and the fix. It will be included in Build #3 which I'm hoping to release tomorrow night.

#405880

Thanks for taking the time to D/L winamp. I think I might have found out what the problem is/was. One of the skins I was using seemed to be doing it. It didn't even occur to me until you replied. Simple answer was uninstalled the skin, low and behold FindeXer started working again. If your interested the skin was called Valkyrie_Beta_2.

mps

#405886

Valkyrie_Beta_2's a very nice skin.. probably one of the best (and most polished) for Winamp if I remember... http://www.koregraphik.com/downloads/valkyrie/

note: I'm just posting the link incase there was interest. I am not affiliated with the skin in any way. :)

#405994

Hmm, there does seem to be some weird interaction between your app (which is as much of an improvement to my windows install as AveDesk is) and my Valkyrie skin. When I had Winamp with Valkyrie loaded during the installation, I didn't get the FindeXer option in the Explorer menu. I closed Winamp, restarted Explorer, and there it was. Also, when Winamp is open (with Valkyrie), nothing happens when clicking on the shortcuts. Double-click opens the shortcut in a new Explorer instance. I really would like to know what's going on since it seems Valkyrie is causing FindeXer to malfunction.

@firecracker6: Thanks for the comment. :)

#406003

First i have to agree, it is a very nice skin for winamp (though as i've said - i'm more of a foobar fanatic :P )

- As for the bug, I've downloaded the skin from the link firecracker6 supplied, and still could not reproduce the bug. so either it's something i changed in Build #3, or something in the way you guys have winamp set up.

Since Build #3 is almost, but not yet ready to be publicly released, i will contact kgraphik to see if it has already been solved or if not to solve it (if possible).

this might delay Build #3, a bit - but it's better to have a stable non-conflicting app i think ;)

#406061

This program is AWESOME!!!! I can't believe how much my explorer looks and acts like the finder, between this and the styler toolbar it's nearly perfect. Works great with my png icons, dragging and dropping is working perfectly. The best thing about this program is it's highly functional, not just a good appearance but it makes my using the computer alot easier. Thank you and keep up the good work

#406077

Alrighty, so I found the bug in Valkyrie that was causing the weird interaction between Winamp and FindeXer and fixed it. I will be posting an updated build of Valkyrie later today that includes this fix. Thanks again alianyn for the help. :)

#406090

This is great news. Well done to the 2 of you for sorting this little bug, can't wait for the new releases. :D

Thanks again.

mps

#406094

welp - it's actually kgraphik who does all the fixing, i just helped him by idetifying the conflict. so he desrves the big thanks...

Hopefully now i can finish with build #3 tomorrow...

#406125

I have a doubt about the frame style setting: on my computer the frame looks a bit different from the description - whatever visual style I use - here's a screenshot collage:

finderex-frames.jpg

"No frame" is fine, but "Thin Lined Frame" gives me an inset 3d look, quite deep, while "Thick 3D Frame" is 3d, but stands out... is my computer acting weird, is that common, or is that the expected behaviour ? :)

#406130

@dreadnaut - if you compare your own SS, you will notice that the only difference between no frame and the thin frame is the thin black line on the top and left side of the bar. Hence the labeling "thin frame" - i agree that on some styles this looks inset, but not on all. That's why i chose to name it by it's characteristics raher than by it's look. same goes for the 3D - it's thick and it's 3d... as opposed to the thin which is basically just a black line (usually 1 pixel wide and so 2D).

Hope that clears it up ;)

#406132

@alianyn: Maybe this request has been posted already, but it would be great if the "drag" event on the items has less sensivity, coz many times I click on the icon to go to another location, but I move the mouse 1 pixel at tge same time I'm clicking it, so it doesnt work properly.

Maybe a 3-6 pixels snap could be better than the "0px" sensitive snap to the drag event.

[btw, my english sucks]

#406134

well... not really :) the difference is not only in the black shadow, but also in some grey 3d effect on the same sides

At least here, it looks like this: (zoomed screenshot)

finderex-frames-2.jpg

edit: I would actually love a Thin Line frame, like the one of the main explorer viewport. But it's no problem with the current behaviour - my doubt was more about "is my computer weird" :)

#406135

finally installed it and this thing is amazing. very fast compare to kabal. outstanding job alianyn!
