Music Groups, Bands And Songs.

I agree with Duckie, we're all friends here (sort of) and the mods are not our enemies. We have a common interest (aqua), and that should be the basis of our discusions. Slight diversions are fine and harmless, but flame wars are pointless.

I am starting to think this was a bad idea, as there are too many rebelious teens who just want to piss people off.

PS. Videomann, I hope that sig wasn't meant to insult Aqua Girl, because thats the kind of stuff that really hurts the community.

hehe, Videomann ain't a teen.

Lets put this back to being the thread for music right?

thanks :)

Two things i agree for once with Duckie (while disgusting his manners) and on the other hand i don't. For videomann i'd like to give him a little note that reads "dont poison this thread (you know better), stop trying to be so important but be important instead"

For what Duckie stated in this thread on page 5, (while as a sidenote i offcourse think his first purpose is to only add fuel to the fire instead of extinguish it as a mod should) I must admit he's got a big fat point. The purpose of this community should be Aqua, and this thread should be nothing more than a 'like to know you better in THIS Aqua place' thread.

It's a shame Duckie is in a way extremely transparent in showing us his vulnerability with his typical ranting about how he likes to see us behave (IRC, no democracy etc. etc) and tell us that were not as long around as him and such.

While his real message is actually "I TOLD YOU GUYS, THIS COULD HAPPEN".... Ok! You were right there are figures around that poison the thread but has that anything to do with the topic being not Aqua??? I dont think so, you would like so... i know...

It just worked out fine the thread was extremely active and well visited, i liked it and so the other Mods and yes even the site founder.

Until someone with a similar signature like mine, showed up and started to poison it, (where are the mods when you need them? ;)

I think it is a shame that one person can put such a mark on a thread.

And i think it's a greater shame for a Mod to not moderate when something goes wrong but wait until it escalates and then "Breaks down and post, how he's right"

I agree with FissyB, i hope this thread stays one and the bullcrap gets deleted and we all just move along with what the topics was meant for.

Cheers!

#33674

Aqua-Grrl,

according to you, myself and others are "transparent".

What? Did we learn a new phrase today? Aww...how adorable.

If you're going to disrespect me, at least try and be unique in your rebuttals.

I suppose next you will call me "noncreative". Ironic, if you ask me.

You should also be a government propaganda writer. Using words like 'vulnerability' and phrases like 'typical ranting'...it has all the flavor of a misdirection ...oh, I mean Bush War proposal. ;)

As for the site founder liking this thread: I'm not amazed that he finally collapsed under the pressure of the absolute barrage of PM's and emails. I might collapse too, under such pressure, just to get people to keep quiet and leave me alone. I'm not speaking for him, but from experience, I feel his pain.

And when, in my recent post, did I ever mention my "that were not as long around as him"?? Putting words in my mouth? Or maybe it is YOUR vulnerability showing.

You know, when you werent flooding as Cheyenne, you had some rather decent posts with logical questions...but the minute you decided to bulldozer your way to recognition, I lost interest in what you had to say.

But, as you know...you have friends here now so I'm on my own. Besides, I hear you and Goku have a date soon. ;)

Finally, please don't tell me how to do my job, and I will gladly stop telling you what you can and cannot post. k?

In other words...let's end this, now. You got your way. happy?

#33697

Duckie,

after having read Aqua-girl's post, I have had personally noted a sensation that I have felt is eminent on this forum. I have not expressed my view on this before, but will do so now.

The moderators are stringent that this forum not deviate from anything that is too far off being aqua. And secondly that the same mods sometimes fuel (tolerate) subjects that are too far off being aqua.

My opinions on this subject are these:

I believe that the undercurrent of friction on these boards are exaggerated by the frequence of their, sometimes uneducated, citations.

The discrepancies between posted topics and the reactions of the moderators are not as bad as threads like this make them out to be.

I have come to understand (hopefully correctly) that three very important issues are overlooked:

1. The reason why we have so many un-aqua related topics stems from the mere fact that the aqua interface does not include too many features (atleast for non programmers) to talk about. We soon run out of ideas or transformations because as soon as a breakthrough is envisioned, a programmer, or anyone adequately capable of seing the customisation through to completion, takes over, while discussion of this process occurs between the few technically capable people.

The rest of us, aspiring to, and realising that we are a part of this community feel that we should enter into somesort of dialogue or interaction with it. The higher than normal reason for the frequence of this could be;

a. Most newcomers and enthousiasts on this board are very young, aged 16-20 on average I believe. Therefore we see much more unbound displays of enthousiasm, "whats your age?" "show us a picture!". It all stems from the love of the people of this community; not the community (aqua) itself.

b. Why should youth express itself in such a way here? It's easy, the unbridled enthousiasm to my mind stems from the personality of the individual. Any one showing a strong and resilliant enthousiasm for aquafying (enough to regularly post ideas and gratitude here) must be someone who has an appreciation of the visual arts! I.e. someone who is by nature very visuo-spatially oriented... in other words right-brained. This is significant because it explains the nature of some of the young talent that we have. Consider Alilm, at only 14 years of age, and programming at a notable level. His expressions, the level of complexity in his dialogue, the depth and neutrality of some of his responses indicate a gifted (if not profoundly gifted) youth.

2. The second point that I wish to draw attention to is the mods. Please remember that this site, infact the very process of aquafying windows, did not exist. It started as a creation, a love of a few number of very, very passionate individuals.

And what have we done?

We have come to their gate.

Always remember that this place was born out of their passion.

They will to their utmost capacity (only bounded by empathy), see it grow in a worthy manner. That is how (I assume) it grew in the past, that is what the essence of the satisfaction and joy came from for the founders of aqua-soft: to see the results of their passion and efforts grow in a worthy and invigorating way.

It is more that understandable that topics such as "How much do you weigh?" would sadden them.

3. Aqua-girl and Duckie, my political orientation is also very left wing, but...Sometimes we get upset by incompatible expressions of opinion. (rarely on the subject but frequently on the method of expression). Your signature for one,... anothers way of expressing their disagreement with it. This final issue is one that I believe extends to beyond the scope of this forum. But the answer to me, is simple nevertheless. It does not stem from the disagreement or the issue, it stems from oneself.

I am sure that you will agree with the notion that an insult or mockery has to be substantiated. But with this notion I disagree.

You must see beyond the intensity of the fury. The anger and resentment that one feels towards anothers attack on your beliefs (however "wrong", lively or ferocious) to the best interests of oneself has to be absorbed with serene tenderness and affection.

Only in this context can you truly see the "whole" meaning behind it.

A view expressed without this understanding, is notably desolate and clearly deserted of any chance of the empathy we all seek.

I think Ive finally realized why the boards have been going crazy recently.

Now stay with me, this gets complicated, ok:

PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS!

They have no lives (and if I can say that...), and cant take a hint. The mods are trying to do their jobs, most people are just trying to post about aqua and the occasional "get to know you" thread, and then others are purposely trying to disrubt the very (thin) fabric of our society (cliche).

There are rules. Follow the rules EXACTLY! If you dont like the rules, PM the mods (not flood) or leave. We dont need to have 20 rebellion threads just to make your point. The worst part is that it clutters up the boards and makes REAL INFORMATION hard to find.

Ive been trying to stay out of this, but jeez, you all seem like losers doing this (and your not losers).

And Duckie, c'mon, you know your better than these people, you shouldn't have to retaliate. You've never done ANYTHING wrong. So some people think youve said incorrect or mean things, big woop.

Same thing goes for Timan, DZ, goku, and others. Just do what you were sent to do, moderate. People seem to forget that. The reason people forget that thats your job, is because you've been extremely nice in the past, and allowed non-aqua talk. People have abused that and you shouldnt feel bad deleting or banning.

Thank you, and theres my RANT.

#33703

Well say contrasutra,

Now back on topic people! if you want to yak about politics and crap! post in the "No Holds Bar" forum dont go hijacking peoples threads!

P.S.: Ok folks, lets get back to music. If you want to discuss aynthing else do it in a different thread, by eMail, IRC, Chat, PM, Letters, WHATEVER. This is the MUSIC thread.

Thanks for pointing out, Taha!

P.S.S.: Did I ever tell you your sig / Avatar somehow really scares me, Taha!

#33733

Who do you think will set a new trend in music or will become a dominant name in the next 5 years ( single artist or band ). By a new trend I mean somebody that will shape the music not a flash in the pants star.

#33734

Evanescence. No kidding - I think they have what it takes to make it big. The lead singer, Amy Lee, has an operatic voice...and their music includes strings and piano, plus crunchy guitars and bass...Definitely a group to keep an eye on, I'd say.

Edit: I know, I didn't really qualify my opinion very well as to why I think they'll make it big - I'd say their music speaks for them better than I can, and I'd like to keep my post brief. Check them out if you will. An older album of theirs is actually currently available on the web (legally, no less). If I find the URL I'll post it.

I think that we will have to wait some years for the next big thing. The actual musical scene is a bit poor in my opinion, we don't have an avalanch of amazing albums as we had 5 or 10 years before.

Oops I'm talking about rock'n'roll of course, there's no leader BAND today as we could have GN'R or the grunge guys some years ago.

And honestly, I don't see Linkin' Park or similar new metal band on the top of the world.

#33742

@the usual suspects ;)

It makes me smile when i read you posts, further replies or comments from me are not needed if you ask me, my posts and your replies speak for themselves.

I agree with Ducky lets end it.

And about the sig, well it shouldn't have the load you think it carries.

(i remember you asking what i mean with the sig... i never answered that)

Ever heard from Brothers in Arms a cd by Mark Knopfler? Well its quoted from that same song, with no 'wrong' intention at all, that way you can always find something...

PS: Excuse for any misconceived English cause over here we speak and write in Dutch, so i think i manage quiet well though.

[ontopic]

I think Linkin Park is a typical boyband with a metal coat on.

Anyone listen to Beth Gibbons and Rustin man?

Think she did a great job after delivering a great CD with Portishead

and then by leaving Portishead and start for her own.

I went to her concert in February, it was near perfect for the melancholic minded.

#33744

I dont think the lack of new trends is a problem of the music scene.

Presently, everything seems to be some sort of "retro". In the music scene, this means that especially long-established bands dominate the scene. Like U2: they started something in the 80ies, now its retro time, so U2 is big again. Not that they did anything new, ist just because they did once.

Heck, I found myself collection old games and emulators for them!

I dont know if this is a problem of lacking creativiti that does not produce something really new to set a trend (like OS X did ;) ) or if the old things were just soo cool and great that they are just re-discovered.

Have fun,

McTrinsic

You had your choice to come clean with it and you ignored it on purpose. You say it's from Brothers in Arms... I don't think so try again ! I got the CD by the way.

Here's the Lyrics:

Dire Straits

Brothers in Arms (1985)

Brothers in Arms

These mist covered mountains

Are a home now for me

But my home is the lowlands

And always will be

Some day you'll return to

Your valleys and your farms

And you'll no longer burn

To be brothers in arm

Through these fields of destruction

Baptism of fire

I've watched all your suffering

As the battles raged higher

And though they did hurt me so bad

In the fear and alarm

You did not desert me

My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds

So many different suns

And we have just one world

But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell

And the moon's riding high

Let me bid you farewell

Every man has to die

But it's written in the starlight

And every line on your palm

We're fools to make war

On our brothers in arms

Hmmm you are right... (not on the "on purpose" thing you stated, not responding has nothing to do with "having a choice" in this place)

But you are wrong with poisoning the thread over and over again with these in my opinion complete irrelevant (off topic) posts, if you want to show off your intellect (cause i think you have some with a little help from Google ;) ) with long (look at my facts!!) grounded posts, you undermine your intellect. Please start showing some respect on this board and keep your posts on topic and bring minor issue's or questions to PM instead of throwing it on the board.

Love to discuss with you but not on this thread, ok?

Ride Across the river...

(Written by Mark Knopfler)

I'm a soldier of freedom in the army of man

We are the chosen, we're the partisan

Well the cause it is noble and the cause it is just

We are ready to pay with our lives if we must

Gonna ride across the river deep and wide

Ride across the river to the other side

Now I'm a soldier of fortune, I'm a dog of war, yeah

And we don't give a damn who the killing is for

It's the same old story with a different name

Death or glory, it's the killing game

Gonna ride across the river deep and wide

Ride across the river to the other side

Oh, Nothing gonna stop them as the day follows the night

Right becomes wrong, the left becomes the right

And they sing as they march with their flags unfurled

Today in the mountains, tomorrow the world

Gonna ride across the river deep and wide

Ride across the river to the other side

Gonna ride across the river deep and wide

Ride across the river to the other side

A side note for anyone that had their post edited in this thread: You may not break the rules! So stop trying to. My patience is known to be limited - please don't push it. That's all I'm going to say.

Now then, glad to see were back on topic.

VideoMann: I enjoy those lyrics...I was actually listening to Dire Straits back in '86 for something other than their pop tunes.

Here's a little number on deadzombies all time favorite lyrics list:

Change

(Danny Elfman)

Don't you ever wonder why, nothing ever seems to change

If it does it's for the worse, seems it's just a modern curse

Sometimes when I take a peek outside of my little cage,

Everyone looks so asleep, will they die before they wake

And, hey. . . Don't you know? We're just products of our time and Hey . . .

What d'ya say? Show me yours, I'll show you mine

Better dumb and happy than smart and without any friends

Better cute and better loud, better join up with the crowd

Keep up or be left behind, there's a dust storm in my mind

Seems I can't see straight these days, doesn't matter anyway

Hey . . . Don't you know? We're just products of our times and

Hey, what d'ya say? Show me yours, I'll show you mine

Hey, what d'ya say? Hey, what d'ya say? Please don't ever -

Oh God, here's that question now. The one that makes me go insane

I'd gladly tear my heart out if you never, never, never, never change

Do you want to change? Do you want to change right now?

Do you want to change . . . I like my stupid life, just the way it is

And I wouldn't even change it for a thousand flying pigs

And I like you just the way you are, I like your face just the way it is

And I wouldn't even change it for a herd of screaming kids

And I like you just the way you are, I like you though you may not like me back

I would dazzle you with brilliance, if I only had the knack

'Cause I like you just the way you are, I like this life just the way it is

And the castles all around me, have been melting now for years

And it kills my brain to think of all the time I wasted here

All the efforts, sweat, and broken hearts, the screaming and the tears

And I'm dreaming again . . . Floating in a pool of mud

Try to get back where I was and I don't really care

Got a little talking to, by the mirror in my room, and I don't really care . . .

Whispering voices from the dead, come from underneath my bed

And I don't really care . . .

I like my stupid life just the way it is

And the chaos that surrounds me like a flock of screaming pigs

And it hurts my brain to think of all the stupid things I've said

And if I could change the future I would change the past instead

And I'm dreaming again . . . and I'm dreaming again . . .

Baby - sometimes I worry about you

Sometimes you're so far away, tell me what to do

I say, Baby . . . sometimes I worry about you

Sometimes I just can't believe everything you do

I say, Baby . . . sometimes I worry about you

Every day I feel the same, don't you feel it too

I say, Baby . . . sometimes I worry about me

Seems I'm falling down a lot, in between the scenes

I say, Baby . . . sometimes I worry about me

Getting harder all the time, harder now to see

I say, Baby . . . sometimes I worry about me

Light another cigarette, have another dream

It's the same thing every day, nothing ever seems to change and I . . .

Do you really want to change?

Testaments and growing pains. Tranquilizers for the soul.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained - evolution's cruelest joke

Why is everyone upset? I once knew but I forget. Something happened,

Something strange, something it appears has changed

Hey . . . Don't you know? We're just products of our times

And hey, what d'ya say? Show me yours, I'll show you mine

Hey, what d'ya say? Hey, what d'ya say? Please don't ever -

Oh God, here's that question now, the one that makes me go insane

I'd gladly tear my heart out if you never, never, never, never change
