AveDesk 1.3 Wishlist

first - thanks for your great work!!!

I also think like butuz that mouse gestures would be a great thing - in combination with showcase...

The possibilty to bring (like the launcher "orbit") on (for example) middle click + ... shortcuts on top of the screen to start programs etc. Would be a lot faster than keyboard shortcuts... as most hands never leave the mouse.

Hotspots like in ObjectDock would be fine as well.

Another thing - I know this could be a kind of desklet as well, but I'd prefer to see it integrated - would be the possibilty to place png-backgrounds behind several desklets. It doesn't have to be responsive, but would be nice: So you can have a kind of dock background/tab launcher - I know there is a sysstats desklet, but it would be a lot easier and have more possibilities and would be easier to configure:

Just add a background on the desktop (whatever form - ring, bar, ...), place desklets on it and assign it to a mouse gesture/hot spot - perfect substitute for ObjectDock/Orbit, ... The only thing missing would be tabs (like ObjectDock)...

I hope I'm not too late for this.. I am new and I just saw this thread... so ..

i wish for..

1. Redesigned Control panel

2. Dragging something from Explorer to Control panel will create a new Desklet

3. by pressing a single key would hide all the desklets..

4. When I create a Shortcut of a image file other then PNG & ICO the Image don't look good fix this..

5. when setting position of the lebels in desklet properties... can u make it graphical? i mean we set position of the labels by clicking some buttons (make our life a lot easier)

6. there is some problems with the unmounted drive Icons.. when I press F9 they all get visible.. thats OK.. but when I press F9 again they STAYs visible. they were not supposed to do that...

7. and OF COURSE it should lightweight as It is now...

thats all... again I hope i am not too late for this...

I dont think anyone has requested this....

With my dual-screen graphics card there is some software that came with it that if i create mouse gestures, my desktop background and all open applications change. So i can swicth between desktops. now i dont think its entirely important to have it mouse gestures, but you could have a kind of 'turn page' in the corner of the screen and when you click it, it switches to another desktop. That way you could have all of your folder icons on one desktop, then program shortcuts on another and swicth between the two using a page turnover in the corner.

I think that would be really cool,

It would be nice if you could add audio effects and chained other effects for desklet icons. Mouse-over and click options for desklets would greatly enhance AveDesk. The same goes for dragging and dropping files into folders/drives and for CD eject. In fact linking any effect with desklet activation or option (from right-click menus for instance) woud be awesome!

I want to hear a noise when I drop a trashed file into the Recycle Bin and to have it sound like a flamethrower when I empty it. (Oh, and a glowing effect wile it blazes away would be very satisfying).http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/newreply.ph...ote=1&p=284691#

I don't know if it is too late to request new features/bugfixes, but there is one extremely annoying bug that I'd like to get rid of

It concerns DVD playback. When I try to play a DVD in WMP with AveDesk running, it won't show me the movie in full screen! The screen just goes black, but the sound still works. The only time I can see the movie is in the original window, if i resize it or move it it also goes black. Almost the same problem occurs in PowerDVD too. There is a huge black box covering almost the entire picture.

I don't know if youre aware of this but if you can fix it, please do so

It's to do with the way Windows handles overlays, nothing to do with AveDesk sorry. You can get around it by using a better decoder than PowerDVD (it's hardware acceleration overlay is laughable, even VLC does a better job).... Windows Media also uses the PowerDVD core if it's is installed.

My request, may have been mentioned, is for an Official Ave Weather object. I know SysStats can do a great job, I just would like something a little more native to the app. Not important but thought I'd add it while I'm posting

Just downloaded the Test version and as much as I like the progress that's been made with 1.3, I am disappointed in seeing my collapsed (or whatever you want to call it) right-click menus idea (check here) seems to not have made it into 1.3. At this point, one can only hope 1.4 will have such a feature. :slant:

How can you tell they are not in 1.3 - you don't have an updated pidlshortcut in the teaser.

Seems I completely forgot that the menu is part of pidlshortcut and not AveDesk itself. My mistake. X_X

Probably it is too late, but I have a wish for AveDesk. Wouldn't it be nice to give the desklets "relative" coordinates? For example 400pixel from top and 200 from right - by this way a change of resolution or a change between widescreen and portrait mode on LCD monitors would be no problem.

Actually that sounds like a really useful idea. (I often undock my laptop so I'm going from 1920x1200 to 1280x1024 every few days.)

i would like to see ability to turn shadows on/off for a desklet

i have a problem with desklets flickering or trying to update itself such as Desktop Picture or AeroRSS when i right click and choose configuration option.. it would be nice to have it momentarily stop updating/flickering when configuration the desklet using right click.

also, it would be nice to have an option in the Avedesk configuration to control file association and shell menu integration.. so to keep right click menu clean. thanks, great app.

There IS an option to turn off shadows. I guess it's just too much for you to go into options and turn it off.

I realize Ave just released v1.3 out to the masses, but one option I was hoping to have addressed is giving the sub-label the ability to autohide (being visible on mouse over) instead of both labels together. For example, I like having my Recycle Bin label present, but do not need to necessarily know at all times how many files or how many megs are present. On mouseover however, maybe that information could appear in case I wanted to see it. Anyway, just a suggestion. Haven't posted here in a while, great work Ave, nice to see so much support for this great community! :cool:

I agree with all the points you made. Calling CreateObject already does the inter-apartment marshalling.

Currently, the desklet object does not expose its properties but I am short of an enhanced property bag implementation that serializes into AveDesks' XML model as usual.

Additionally, the desklet already has a Tag runtime property that holds a Variant, (that can hold objects, arrays and other base types) which is only valid during runtime. Given a desklet that does not provide an object model, this is currently the only way.

ref. Yeuksville: You can access the desklet object of the running instance by calling DeskletGetWrapper in C++.

Expose the return value of this call as a read-only Desklet property to your SysStats script engine. Then a script could do:

I'd like to see desklets maintain their positions relative to the screens edges. My laptop's display is 16:9 but when on the docking station, the monitor I use is standard 4:3. I have to rearrange stuff every time it changes. Konfabulator does this.

i too would like avedesk systats integration... this will allow for easy widget creation and overall a much better avedesk, just now did i relize the true potential of avedesk (i thot the doks it came with were it)
