AveDesk 1.3 Wishlist

You can post the things you want to see in AveDesk 1.3 here.

Good Example:

I would like to have the ability in AveDesk 1.3 to set the 'click-mode' per desklet, rather than globally. The reason is that certain desklets, like the iTunesWidget, would need single-click, but others, like the pidlshortcuts, need double-click.

(possibly example screenshot)

Bad Example:

i want it 2 have foobar support becos i use foobar not itunes is using too much mem

NO desklet request please!

Usability issues, yes please!

Ideas, yes please!

It would be nice if showcase was smoother and more useable than it is now. Somewhat like Konfab, but hopefully less of a memory hog. Dunno if this is possible though.

I would like to see WinAmp intergrated more. That or the WinAmp thingy that Herd made should be developed so that is completely usable :) and maybe direct support of the widgets downloadable off apples website. I admit, it seems VERY far fetched but if you managed it the possibilities would be endless.

1. AveDesk should be a shell.

2. AveDesk should support png animations.

3. AveDesk should integrate with Trillian.

Hope that's not too much to ask!

Thank ave

I was hoping for better font smoothing (it gets illegable below 9pt).

maybe complete integration with systats?

wish you could set a refresh every __ minutes for icons for removeable drives so when you plug them in they dont still say 0 gig free of 0 total

I currently have a "PidlShortcut" on my desktop that points to my music folder, which currently holds 7,514 songs, 30.9 GB. I use the label format "%r%f songs, %r%s" to keep an eye on my collection, since it grows daily (thanks to iTunes, and my Best Buy discounts). Every time I start up my computer, it takes about 40 seconds for the shortcut to read and display the info of the contents in my music folder, and I am unable to run any other tasks until Avedesk is done pulling the info. I have a fairly decent system: AMD 3200+, 1GB 333DDR etc.

So, I would like to see in Avedesk 1.3, the ability to have the shortcuts speed up the process of displaying info in the labels. I wouldn't know how to go about this, but maybe an option that when checked, the shortcut will remember the folder information when the AveDesk closes, and when the next time it runs, it only checks for new files in the folder and/or subdirectories. Maybe that would speed it up? Or a caching of some sort? I don't know :D .It's not really that big of a deal, as I have the patience to wait nearly a minute to begin multi-tasking, but it would be nice if it took less time. I hope you understand what i mean, thanks for the awesome program, there is nothing better!

One more thing, sorry for possible OT, but would it be reasonable to post AveTunes request? And no this has nothing to do with winamp or foobar or anything like that, I have a few requests regarding AveTunes and actively altering skin.ini options like font, for example, without having to actually having to find and open the skin.ini, but by having an option that the skinner can place in the AveTunes skin where the user can select.

I think tighter integration with sysstats???.. I know it's more of sysstats issue. But there is an issue which have bothering everyone I feel, that is when you set AveDesk to save theme while closing/switching themes.. it takes a quite some time since it saves each sysstats configs being used, this kinda creates a problem while shutting down system since avedesk quits before all sysstats configs fully saved, resulting corrupted sysstats configs.

I don't know much about application programming, but I really think is it really necessary for AveDesk to save individual sysstats configs while saving AveDesk theme? since I feel people don't keep modifying their configs that often... as a matter of fact, whenever you modify sysstats config, it saves it. So there is actually no need to save it while closing avedesk. Now I'm not sure, if it's more on AveDesk or SysStats this issue to be solved, but I feel this should be addressed.

Another wish.... ummm.... showcase !!! smoother, slicker (less memory hog)...

It would be fabulous if AveDesk could show me the running tasks.

WTF!? .................

be very careful what you post in this threads kids.

i haven`t banned anyone in weeks and am itching to do it.

I won`t let anybody bug Ave ;)

This might sound like a weird request, but I think it could be helpful to newer people...

The ability to run desklets by simply clicking an icon. Sort of like konfabulator.

Big request. Not nessecary, but other than that I think AveDesk is perfect and only needs more widgets rather than major updates.

Ave,

I would like to see the single-click shortcut option in desklets. that would be immensly helpful, especially for the iTunes desklet. Also, I believe hotspots will be much easier to activate in that case, especially in konspose-like mode

I would like to see some integration with Trillian, especially something along the lines of Adium's buddy list on the desktop. That would be incredible. I cannot even venture to tell you how sick that would be

I would like to see a more robust command-line desklet then is already available.

I would like to see PNG support

I would like to have time to make desklets that actually incorporate the power of some of the effectlets, because its f'n insane! being able to do separate effectlets/effects within a desklet would be very neat IMO

thank you, and as always you know I appreciate your hard work ;)

In avedesk 1.3 i would like to see the option of have different showcases.

example

ctrl+f11 would display showcase with virtual console.

alt+f11 would display showcase with maybe Desktop Picture.

also within each showcase the ability to set different showcase bg

and placement of the bg(like in the corners)

maybe being able to set a password on a specific showcase so we can use avedesk to kinda lock the computer from other people by using that specific showcase..

this way you can lock the comp and have it look nice in the process plus it will let you display other info while its locked. ex. battery meter, calender, avetunes, etc

i figure to get out of the passworded showcase you would just press the keys for that showcase and a password box would pop.

#284773

um it would be good if avedesk could be a little more responsive and consume less ram.....also feature where you right click on the desktop to get a menu which also includesthe avetunes manager option (maybe above display or something)-that would be cool. Also i think avedesk should be more responsive in the sense of automounting certain deskets relating to certain apps you may be running (like when itunes minimises avetunes comes up or something)...the user should be able to control this though....this kinda thing would be great for people with mp3 players and iPods and memory sticks as they would be able to easily reach them. (sorry if i may not have been very precise)

#284828

wow! could not believe the topic, I've been waiting for this :)

  • options for hiding the desklet entries from the desklet context menu, or for moving them into a submenu (w/ avedesk tray icon ?)
  • options for changing/disabling the background picture in ShowCase (theme dependent?)

These maybe are more desklets request:

  • option for open-on-drag-over for shortcuts (lovely for folders) w/ delay, like macos does while dragging files over folders
  • a simple vb scriptable desklet (less powerfull than sysstat, thou easier to use) would make writing basic desklets as easy as writing effectlets

@ Ellada - have you tried AveDesk 1.2? It`s already possible :slant:

@ MDZ61384 - i thought AveDesk had PNG support since its first version?

@ d-shade - why would you need multiple showcases? I agree password locking COULD be useful, but activating screensaver with password in windows would do the same thing

@ zondajag - consume less RAM? do you even know how much it uses now? i have 5 PIDLs, 6 notes and an FTP desklet and it uses 1.2mb of RAM so you are obviously talking out of your as$. If you use SysStats, that is the reason of your (supposed) high RAM usage.

Also the iTunes DESKLET options you want have been there forever and it IS user controlable. look before you post requests like this in the future.

@ dreadnut - you can replace the showcase bg by replacing the showcasebg.png in AveDesk folder

Ave is asking for "usability issues" - showcase background settings are not that user friendly - and I have a 1x1 transparent png as background, but it feels a bit like using 1x1 filler gif's in websites ;)

I don't really NEED multiple showcases... but i just kinda want that option.

as i use the show case to bring forward desklets i don't normally want on the desktop

as the two examples i had the virtual console and desktop picture

but i like to have the virtual console fairly large and in the middle.

and also the desktop picture gets a little distracting sometimes when messing with the console.

and with the password locking since i don't normally password my win profile or have the screen saver set to turn on.. but i like being able to lock the comp so when im doing something that takes a while and don't want people messing with the comp as sometimes they accidently close the program. I figure it would be a visually pleasing way to lock the comp and plus it will let you be able to control itunes and display your resourcses while the comp is "locked".

would be nice to see a color picker that can match any color under the eye droper tool, like a matching color on the desktop, that way It would be really easy to select a matching colors for lables.

#284926

I think the icon quality is not really perfect when we set them to a custom size (I mean the icon quality in Y'z Dock or OD is better) although I choose the Best quality mode in global settings, am I right (just thinking)? So AveDesk 1.3 could have that quality would be super awesome. Thanks.

#284944

It would be nice if SysStat desklets would not affect theme saving time so much... If i have a SysStats desklet (i.e Dashboard Calander) on the desktop in Avedesk 1.2, it would take like forever for me to save the theme...

Or is this just an issue with my comp? Okay, this is a wishlist, and i'm reporting bugs... Sorry, people... :)

That and allowing removable flash disks (in my case, an Ngage) to be "safely removed" even if the Desklet that points to is has disk information sublabels (i.e, x% Free Space)...

Other then that, i really don't have much more to ask from Ave for AveDesk 1.3...

#284957

I'd really like it if AveDesk could somehow use Rainlendar as a plugin (likte LiteStep does). That would be sweet!

Thanks for all your hard work!

My suggestion is much more an implementation detail. I'd like to see the concept of "theme" extended to configurable color schemes. It would be great to have a panel where you can create and edit color schemes that include default colors for various elements as well as "hints" that can suggest desklets how to adapt themselves to different themes automatically (hints as "this is a light theme", "this is a dark theme", etc.). Desklets then would pick up these settings and they could configure themselves with colors defined in the color scheme or, optionally, allow per-desklet custom colors. Of course this wouldn't work with desklets that are not designed to use this feature, but new desklets could be programmed to do so. Imagine that by simply switching a color scheme you could have all your desklets (calendars, icons, weather, etc.) match those colors without having to force a "colorize" operation that often makes desklet look innatural.

In a nutshell: currently a "theme" encompasses all configuration attributes: colors, images, desklet type and position. My suggestion is to separate the desklet setup (i.e. what desklets are created and where they are placed) from appearance attributes (colors, images, etc.) and make these attributes available to deslkets through the programming interface.

Have a nice weekend! :)
