AveDesk 1.3 Wishlist

hi ave, like some people here said, I think Systat MUST be integrated to Avedesk, curently, avedesk have very limited features without Systat and I guess most people using Avedesk have Systat.

maybe you can also work on a better "user friendly" program (not UI I precise), implementing the "save custom color" in the color picker (because for now if you pick a custom color to add it in the costomized colors, its not saved and you have to remember the color code to keep the same color) it would be extremely usefull in theming desklet (individual desklet theme of course ;)

After that, it's something like a facelift to reorganize the frames :) you know I like clear and clean interfaces ;)

thank you

Also I noticed my cpu useage was due to avedesk and Yz Shadow they seem to not play together for me Im using avedsek shadows on my icons dont know if thats a problem or what.

#285218

AveDesk & YzShadow work just fine for me :/

#285238

also, is it possible to implement a procedure that, in case of explorer crash, reload avedesk itself?

#285244

A feature to export one widgets settings to all other widgets.

Dear Andreas. I've got a few ideas about AveDesk, which I would like to see working in further version. Hope you find them usefulful too.

1) Label must be a part of desklet, not a ghostlike attribute somewhere near. I mean that I can doubleclick my desktop shortcuts not just into the icon but into the label also. Or I can drag a shortcut with its label, without touching the icon. I'd like to have an ability to drag any desklet by its label as well as by the icon or click the label with the same effect as the icon.

2) Double or single click must be a per-desklet option. I prefer using doubleclick for launching shortcuts, but for some desklets like AveTunes it would difficult to use them with doubleclick. I prefer not to use AveTunes at all rather then change AVD settings to single click or use double click for AveTunes' buttons.

3) AVD UI should better conform to OSX HI Guidelines document found at Apple Developer Connection site. For now the best emulators' utility still looks too PC'ish and Microsoft'ish.

4) Desklets Control Panel window should be available from Windows Control Panel. When you are working with COM, it's not so troublesome and difficult. Some apps like WindowBlinds or EZDesktop can even build their dialogs into Windows' own Desktop Properties dialog.

5) TTS and scripting engines used in AVD host app should be easily available for desklets. BTW, for having your own (and very reliable and nice) scipting engine, you can use SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine found at Mozdev.org. It even has likely official set of interfacing classes for Delphi.

For AveDesk 1.3, I'd like to see...

avedesk_cascaded_menus.jpg

- An AveDesk submenu like we discussed on MSN a couple of months ago. ;)

- Explorer crash handling. If Explorer crashes, AveDesk continues running, but the desklets remain hidden, even when you bring up Showcase.

- Automounting a desklet in the next available space on the desktop. (I've seen this requested a bunch of times here)

That's all I can think of right now (just woke up). If I think of anything else, I'll post it here. :)

That's a good one.

Thankfully, the context menu is completely at the mercy of the desklet, so this would go into a Pidlshortcut desklet wishlist.

@polo78

Color sets and other things are, by and large, best described as ambient properties as known from COM controls. In the XP world, this info comes from the visual style - querying that may be gruesome so AveDesk may pre-devour and expose them as a COM object, b/c exposing a C-Style API on top of another C-Style API makes no sense IMHO.

@Rimmer

Putting the control panel into the desktop property box was my idea with 1.1... It still didn't make it into the 1.2 release. Reason: The shell extension DLL needs to be "in process" of Explorer.exe and very few features in the AveDesk executable yet reached the COM model for the compulsory Exe-to-Exe transmit of tweak info to accomplish the task. The scripter would benefit from that too even if that's a lot of things to do, maybe Andreas favors a (Delphinist) shared memory approach instead...

i'd like to be able to get into avetunes properties without itunes opening. sometimes i'm not listening to music but want to check out a skin.

thx.

#285564

that is a widget request.

ono more of those and i`ll delete all widget requests without a notice.

Ave said NO WIDGET RELATED REQUESTS!

heheheh I knew I should have added a screenshot in my post :) just to ride the wave - also the option to completely hide the menu items would be nice

#285570

Oh... It just struck me !!!

It would be nice to add keyboard shortkey per desklet, to bring desklet On-Top temporarily... Let's say, a perticular desklet user uses frequently, like aveTunes. So using keyboard shortcut aveTunes can come On-Top position for accessing, and using the same shortcut will reset it to it's original set position. Just like Showcase, which shows up when needed.

Hi there,

The only thing that could make AveDesk any more sweet than it already is (for me anyways...) would be a little bit better implementation of USB flash drives and automounting. Some of the problems that I've seen so far (and some have been able to be fixed with some fighting):

- Total/used disk space not updating properly

- Icon doesn't hide/show when drive plugged in/ejected

- USB devices can't be "stopped" when linked to an desklet

The last one is the largest concern to me. I don't know if it's an AveDesk thing, or a PidlShortcut thing (please don't kill me if it is...) but it would be nice to have this working as smoothly as everything else.

Other than that, it's pretty much perfect! :D

Cheers!

I would love to be able to start a preconfigured Desklet via a shortcut. For an example i don´t need the Virtual Console all the time so i don´t want to have it running all the time (and use recources). I´d rather have a shortcut on my desktop that would start up the cirtual console in avdesk the way i configured it before. (Kinda like the Dashboard Dock does).

- USB devices can't be "stopped" when linked to an desklet
if by "USB devices" you mean flashdrives/cameras aka "USB Mass Storage"s and by stop you mean using the taskbar icon to "deactivate" them, that's the wrong way. By deactivating them you completely close the communication, while you just want to flush changes and be sure you can remove the usb device. That's done with right-click/remove, since USB-M-S are seen as "removable drives". And this works under avedesk.

a desklet is something that stay on the desktop and is often used. Maybe you don't need a desklet: try http://sourceforge.net/projects/console/ :)

#286196

I'd like to see menus (for objectbar) on desklets.

#286436

I would nice if desklets could send messages (like: resize, move, destroy, create...) between them (some kind of inter desklet communication). That would open possibilities for more advanced desklets - desktop.

Another wish: option to resize and rotate desklet graphically by some kind of grips (that option is integrated in new version of enlightenment windows manager for linux)

#286552

Make it possible to have digital cameras mounted as removeable drives on the desktop.

USB Hard drives do not have a right-click "remove" or "eject" option...the OS doesn't see them the same as a USB "key" drive or memory card reader (with card inserted) which do have a right-click option.

yep, they are not "removable drives"... but you remove them indeed... mmmh don't know about them, I don't have one, sorry :( but looks like what I was saying doesn't apply to them...

#288514

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned this before, and I'm afraid that it might be too late for an implementation in avedesk 1.3, but here goes:

- support for more keyboard shortcuts

This would mean being able to "tab" through the different desklets, deleting them with "del", etc.

- An auto-allign feature that has more option... I would really like the option to arrange desklets that have been recently added to my desktop (" a bit like the "arrange icons by name/size/..." option windows has). Would be great if you could exclude icons from this option, possible with the "lock position" feature that already exists?

Other than that, the context menu being grouped looks like a great idea to me, but that seems like a pidlshortcut thing.

Great work on the program, I hope your exams are going well (or are going to go well :) )

1. Support Open-Type Font ~

2. I can control how it sort the icon

3. Auto add desktop item and remome when item is remove from desktop (High Recommand)

4. "Label Format" - support expression

e.g. : ((%r%f) - 3) files

That mean i can control it to count file without I don't want

5. "Label Format" - count hide/system/etc, file/folder or not

6. "Label Format" - If Expression is avilable, please add a function that i can control "Usage" or something else, not control by windows

e.g. (%s / 1024 / 1024) & "MB"

7. Control label margin in Avedesk with preview, useful for begginer and idiot (e.g. ME)

Thank you for your contribution and hope to see the new version soon!!!

#289135

Like someone said before, the idea to call up a widget upon a hotkey would be really nice !!
