Simple propasal. Ave, could you add a check box for every widget (to the right or to the left, it doesn't really matter) that will enable/disable corresponding item in the control panel.
Why? Any argumentation, reasons, etc... ?
Personally, I think it will allow to easily enable or disable already configured widget without any other manipulations, e.g. without deleting it. One can see how his desktop would look like without it. For instance, If the current configuration (without this widget) will not appeal to the user then he can enable the widget and viсe versa.
I'm not sure maybe there are other means available for doing this, so If there are any, please give me a hint
.
Btw, there are other two proposals for your consideration.
Right now it is becoming really tedious to look through a list of labels if their amount is quite big. It's very inconvenient.
Probably, it would be better to implement some sort of mini-viewer which being launched will show the content of labels folder, that is, the graphical represantation of the label and corresponding name.
Additionally, I would like to see some means to easily switch between widget properties. Maybe some sort of previous and next buttons that will allow to quickly make a transition from one tab of certain widget to similar tab of other widget. Well, I can see some problems here but apparently they can be worked out.
Do you mean "add a check box for each item in the control panel that will enable/disable the corresponding desklet? :confused:Simple propasal. Yeah, sorry. I meant desklet.
1. As RIMMER said I'd like to see a "script engine" inside AD.
Why? Then we will have a little more desklets ![]()
2. I'd like to be able to change showcase shortcut... F8 is very busy key for me ))
3. And pasword-protected showcase is a good idea. Especially with conjunction of script engine (or RIMMER's K-desklet...)
@RIMMER is your K-desklet alive? ^^

1. I see no benefit of a script engine "inside" AD. SysStats gets a script engine inside AD, MultiMeter does this and hopefully Rimmers' K loader will do this too.
2. You can - it's in the settings; you can even have Ctrl+Alt+Shift F12, if you like.
3. Protect to get back from showcase or protect to get into showcase? Or both? And why?
Definately some type of viewer for the labels or allow them to change as we scroll down the list kinnda like it works when viewing dock backgrounds in object dock...
I dont know if this has been mentioned before (hope not), but the ability to drag and drop desktop icons! It's great to be able to drag and drop icons from explorer into a desklet, but imagine that I just downloaded a file to my desktop (the file is then replaced by a desklet), but I am unable to drop that desklet into another desklet of my choice, or into an explorer window! I would have to cut the file, open the window of my choice and paste it. It's not the end of the world, but the ability to drag and drop from the desktop would make it a lot more intuitive ![]()
Hello,
I have an idea for showcase (don't know if it is possible).
I think its nice to use it via keyboard key.
But when the desklets are shown, a shortcut for example, I click it and then I want back to my desktop, without taking my hands off my mouse. So I have 2 ideas:
1. When showcase is open there is an image in the middle of the screen (showcasebg). It woul be nice to click on it to close showcase.
2. Or another possibility: Once I click a desklet in showcase, showcase closes automatically. The best would be if everyone could choose for himself in the global settings how it should work.
It would also be nice to start showcase only be dragging the mouse to the upper right corner for example. That would save my time hitting a button - I like to control everything with my mouse.
I hope everyone knows what I mean ![]()
currently you can use the AddedEffect effectlet to add this action to single desklets [ ehm... yep, I wrote it2. Or another possibility: Once I click a desklet in showcase, showcase closes automatically. The best would be if everyone could choose for himself in the global settings how it should work.
Hi Ave, I just saw your previews of the new version and wanted to thank you for listenning for some of our requests, however I have another request, is there a way to make the the control pannel look kindda like in the same style as your Ave Iconbook and also is there a way I could use the aero skin of Iconbook with Avedesk?
I don't know if this has been suggested already (Too many pages to read), If it has, Please notify an Admin for prompt removal. On to the suggestion. Avedesk 1.2 already has a function whereby you can save a desklet to file (Location on desktop, Image used, Shortcut it point to, Label formatting etc..). It doesn't seem to package the Image (PNG or ICO) file used, Rather it saves a refernce to its location.
My problem arises when Hard drive changes occur and Icons are moved about (Or I add a Secondary HDD and the Drive Letters shift) The desklet when loaded now points to an empty location. - Soooooo .. I think a change in the way avedesk saves desklets would be useful. The change would simply consist of saving the ICO or PNG file along with the desklet in one neat package which would also be useful for distribution I think. A good example is a DesktopX object.
Thank you for the amazing work.

" Option to save specific styles of desklets, so you could apply with a right click menu or something, something in the line of Surferflames idea but with more option, you could even have a library of styles or trade them!
This could even be extended to some specific parts like labels & sub labels, could have a save style button!
People could easily trade their desklets configs! & they could be a regular set of all commands, or an integrated subset of all sub-styles, & of course export option imperative! maybe auto creating an icon!
Perhaps the Control Panel icons could be disposed in a grid or columns, it would save space & be quicker to browse.
The click, double-click properties should be independently assigned to desklets so i can have default double-click, & itunes single for ex.
Make the labels area more customizable, so if i start to move the text too much up or down, it doesn't start eating up my text
Also i don't know if it's just me but my labels sometimes partially or fully disappear in some desklets only! it's quite odd i have to reapply them constantly.
There could be an integrated desklet to make automatically a desklet of a folder or icon you drop, using the desklet styles i talked about earlier, it would save some effort in creating icons!
That's all i remeber for now! it's great to see the continued devolopment of "The Amazing AVEDESk".
I fully deny any responsibility for any and all ideas hereby presented, complaints should be redirected to the management. "
" I just remembered, how difficult would it be to add multimonitor support to the showcase system of avedesk!
For those of us who happen to have dual and triple monitor setups! "
I just feel lazy today!!!
Some more things:
How would you feel about automatically adding a script like property to removable storage or drives that it would be automatically assigned by avedesk to thath drive! kind of like you can do on the .ini of a windows folder, perhaps a package that contains all the elements! It would work great with usb drives, removable disks, u could set specif folders to appear on desktop!!! I think I'm starting to drool! lolol
It would be also cool to have a menu in the pidl shortcut path options, to select some system commands like, My computer, My docs, etc!!!
Also pleease consider adding animation support, just imagine hovering over a folder & it opening, a network icon reacting with traffic, just in useability alone the feedback it can offer if well supported is excelent
Integration with rainlendar as asked earlyer would be great also, u cold set up some desklets for visibility on certain dates or category events! I'm sure I could think of a ton of things if I stretched a little!
Option to browse desklets & or their respective skins visually, much like the new option for labels! wich is very cool.
If you want some help redesigning the GUI let me know, I'll probably do it & post it anyway!
I'm currently developing an advanced interface for the iTheatre opensource media center so I'm quite fresh with ideas! & could use a side project to releave some stress.
That shoul be it, I'll put new things in another post!!! this one's getting big!!
Blunt copy & paste from my gfxoasis post
I don't know what GfxOasis is. So no, not a blunt copy and paste at all.
I don't know what GfxOasis is. So no, not a blunt copy and paste at all.
Yeah but Andreas knows what it is & he made a similar Topic there for new avedesk's ideas! I was just browsing & tought it would be nice to post here to!
Anyway gfxoasis is a customization fórum! very active & with great skinners!
Mockup for avedesk new GUI
Still very fresh just some late night ideas, but i'll be reading all the ideas & incorporate the ones I think are good in my design!
It's just the basics for now, but I'll be adding more! especially on the desklets control properties!
Package icons & startup screen
Desklets tab, actions on left, thumbs of desklets & icon of the respective desklet on corner.
Desklet selection, still thinking about skin selection! but it'll come
Last bu not least, the theme tab.
I guess you get the basic idea there are still a number of things i didn't include, but I just needed to get some of it out of my system, the rest of the development will be a little slower & regarding to what andreas thinks of it I'll think of how to show it off! ![]()

wow I really like it, but maybe try to make it more minimal and still stylish. Try smaller images. Great work ![]()
I actually really like the idea of skinning avedesk... So my thumbs up for this idea!
but then you will have to keep in memory a skin for a dialog you would see once a month... I think it's a bit useless, and would draw energies from the real development. ( I'm biased: I hate skinned programs
)

Well, actually not: a skinned preferences file would make it a much more attractive means of adding or removing desklets, and thus would be used more than once a month (by me at least
). But I agree that if making the program skinnable draws away the attention from the main coding, it's probably not such a brilliant idea.
The idea is not to really skin the program, albeit that would be possible & andreas has done it with his programs before, it is only a mock-up of functions not necessarily the final appearance of the program. Still with that in mind it would not need to reside in memory, it would only load resources when you would open the configuration tab!
The necessity of a skinning engine would only be necessary if it would be deemed necessary for some usability requirements & would arise only in the eventuality of andreas using the mockup.
My development is mainly on the functions and on the way of applying it, there are still a number of functions, like drag & drop label styles ( including text & labels ) from one desklet to the other, and a few other ideas wich I am devoloping.
In the current design of the UI there are even repeated functions, bad organization om content & a number of small things I am analyzing & developing an integrated solution for.
It may never be developed by ave, but hopefully may give him some ideas for future development of avedesk, while he still continues to develop the program
for my part it is an exercise & a fun thing to do, as is to give some contribute to the devolopment of a such cool program.
My best to andreas!
WOOOHA! Now that's what I call constructive input, pax13. It's a nice mockup, and clearly has some good ideas in it: preview image of the desklets that is going to be added, themes may be represented more graphicaller (already got an idea for this).
There's only one problem: A Windows Application should have a default windows look
Nevertheless, it would be a very nice idea to have enough `COM-power` to allow extra applications implement all behaviour of the current avedesk user-interface. This way, skinning apps could be possible.

In the current AveDesk 1.2, there is actually an example of so-called drop-settings. On any label-tab, you could hold down the SHIFT key and drag the shadow's Settings...-button around. This can also be done with the whole label-tab.
I developed this idea for AveDesk 1.2, but never got to finish it. My idea was to make all settings drag&drop-able, even to an drop-stack or drop it on the desktop to save it as a file.
For some reason (probably a coding error), this doesn't work between desklets.

Totally true, and I would love to read, see mockups, hear about all suggestions you and anyone else might have.
In short: keep 'em comin' ![]()
EDIT: Any ideas how to manage a list of themes with a graphical representation in the current user-interface? Where does the menu item need to come, etc... etc.. ?
eheh! glad to see you liked it.
I am currently going over all the ideas for avedesk everyone contributed, mixing it with my own e continuing the development of the gui, its functions & the way to interact with things.
About the skinning bit, I am divided, it would optimally be functional without skinning, I am just unsure if some of the possibilities I am planning would be able to work without it, but it is a consideration to have on later terms, & it would obiously nedd your input to see what's viable & ehat's not.
Question, isn't it possible to transport the skinning engine you used in Avetext & Aveiconbook in avedesk?
I have an important meeting tuesday morning , so I'll probably not be able to post anything until there, but until the end of the week u can be sure to be getting some new things|
WARNING! there will probably be a very considerable number of images, would it be okay to post them all here???
albeit being in the500x375 limit!
