AveDesk 1.2 Bugs

Short Description:

RecycleBin desklet labek only counts files from C:

Item involving:

RecycleBin Desklet

Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant):

WinXP Pro SP2

Steps to reproduce it:

Just create a RecycleBin desklet. The behaviour hasn't changed since v1.1.

Something that might be part of the problem is the drive order on my machine which is:

C: system drive

D: CD-Rom

E: data drive

F: CD-RW

Could it be that the desklet stops counting files when it encounters a read only media source?

pxl8

thank you for bug report but please read the whole thread before posting. this has allready been reported and Ave is working on it.

Could it be that the desklet stops counting files when it encounters a read only media source?

Excelent idea! I think that's the problem.

#256908

@Everybody with RecycleBin problems, can you try this test-version and see if the problem still exists? Thanks.

#256918

Short Description: Icons disapear when dragging by mouse

Item involving: every desklet

Your Machine specs: (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): WinXP Prof. SP2, Athlon 64 3200+, DualMonitor Setup, Matrox P650

Steps to reproduce it: Create a desklet and try do move it on screen using the mouse. The Icon gets lost, only label still visible.

Status: Known dual-monitor bug. Will be fixed in next (1.3?) version

#256920

@Everybody with RecycleBin problems, can you try this test-version and see if the problem still exists? Thanks.

Box2.png http://mpj.tomaatnet.nl/PidlShortcut.aveinst

Yep, all fixed now :D

Guess it's lucky I missed the previous bug report after all :P;)

Box2.png http://mpj.tomaatnet.nl/PidlShortcut.aveinst

Confirmed. It works for now ;) Tnx.

CD mounted automatically, USB drive - have to create shortcut manually but after that it works fine. Using "Safelly remove...." works fine. Oh! on USB-drive label format %2 (Total size) and %3 (free space) does nothing...

#256949

Short Description: Dragging CD shortcut on PidlShortcut:RecycleBin don't eject a disk.

Item involving: PidlShortcut

Your Machine specs: WinXP SP2, AveDesk 1.2

Steps to reproduce it: Drug CD shortcut desklet onto RecycleBin desklet. It asks to delete files/desklet or do Cancel. Thats all. RecycleBin icon do not change to eject sign.

Edit:

Little addition. If i lock position of CD shortcut than i can't move it to RecycleBin :) even with Shift/Alt button pressed... How can i eject it if i lock position?

No idea, does work OK here

No joy Ave...

Steps to reproduce: I downloaded, double-clicked this package, then stopped and restarted AVedesk. Recycle bin problem is still with me. Only deletes items from C: when emptied and only lists items from C: in sublabel. Dragging items from E: puts them in the bin, but they aren't operated on by Avedesk.

Machine specs: WinXP SP1. My fixed drives are C: and E: (DVD drive is D) and I do use custom "empty" and "full" icons for the desklet if that is any help

#256959

Actually I'm not sure - is it bug or bad luck ;) Anyway...

Short Description: Big files after they've been copied onto Desktop don't appear on it as desklets. There're not any problems with small chunks of data.

Item involving: DesktopGrabber

Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): Windows XP SP2, Celeron 2 GHz, GeForce 4 MX 400, RAM 256 MB.

Steps to reproduce it: Install DesktopGrabber. Then just try to copy some big file onto Desktop (in my case it was 62 MB PDF file). File will be copied but won't be converted to AveDesk icon.

Status: Might be a bug, still investigating the issue

#256966

Another thought... I hope my English will help me explain what I mean :)

Short Description: DesktopGrabber doesn't hide real desktop icons while it makes desklet-shortcuts for them. Of course the problem can be solved with Active Desktop - it can hide desktop content... But then we have another problem - desktop blinking (e.g. when you activate ShowCase). Wallpaper begins to blink and you can see solid background applied to desktop...

Item involving: DesktopGrabber or AveDesk in general.

Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): Windows XP SP2, Celeron 2 GHz, GeForce 4 MX 400, RAM 256 MB.

Steps to reproduce it: Just switch Active Desktop on and turn off 'Show desktop icons' option in Desktop context menu (I'm not sure about the option title - I use russian Windows version). Then press [Windows]+[D] (the most significant example), touch ObjectDock (if you run it), activate ShowCase and so on.

Status: Not a bug (edited by someone ;) )

Yes, it's not a bug. But may be it'd be better if AveDesk had its own function for real icons hiding... Like Stardock IconX... Huh?

#256968

Oh! One more time... Sorry for disturbing... :)

Short Description: AveDesk is 'desktop dependent'! When Windows Desktop is deactivated or Explorer crushes, all desklets disappear.

Item involving: AveDesk in generall, I think.

Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): Windows XP SP2, Celeron 2 GHz, GeForce 4 MX 400, RAM 256 MB.

Steps to reproduce it: Deactivate Windows Desktop or just shut Explorer process down - you'll get there at once. :(

AveDesk 'desktop icon' style is highly integrated with the Explorer Shell. Killing Explorer will kill those desklets too

Workaround: ShowCase all before you kill explorer.

#256975

I'll be killed by Andreas... :) But I have one more thought...

Short Description: Troubles with mounting removable media, such as flash-drives. Auto-mounting feature in corresponding desklets doesn't work properly.

Item involving: Don't have any idea. Maybe 'AveDesk in general' again

Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): Windows XP SP2, Celeron 2 GHz, GeForce 4 MX 400, RAM 256 MB.

Steps to reproduce it: Plug a flash-drive into your PC. Make a desklet for it and activate 'Hide desklet when the drive is not mounted' option. Disconnect the flash-drive - desklet will disappear. But when you connect the drive again, desklet won't appear.

#256985

No joy Ave...

Dragging items from E: puts them in the bin, but they aren't operated on by Avedesk.

Quick question... are you using the new PidShortcut RecycleBin or the RecycleBin desklet from v1.1?

The fix only works with the PidShortcut version...

#257005

Short Description: Don´t know if its a bug, but if i put rotate effect on a desklet, it´s stop rotating when you take of the mouse from it, but stops on the position it is (for exemple, upside down). Shoudn´t the desklet returnt to normal position??

Item involving: AveDesk in general and Rotate Effect.

Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): Windows XP SP2, ASUS A7S333, 1Gb RAM 333, Athlon XP 2.4+, GeForce 4 Ti4200 128Mb.

Steps to reproduce it: Take any desklet, select ROTATE effect... put the mouse over the desklet and remove when the desklet is in any position diferent from normal.

Not a bug, that's how the effectlet works. You can ask someone to rebuild the script (wouldn't be too hard)

#257013

Short description: SysStats items corrupting. ini files trashed, all image locations/type info in ini file gone.

Item involving: SysStats docklets

Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): Both systems... IBM T-23 ThinkPad, 1.13 GHz PIII, 1GB ram, 16 MB AGP video. Other system, 3.20e GHz P4, 1GB ram, 256 MB ATI Radeon 9550 8x AGP video card. Both systems are running Windows XP SP2 and are fully patched. Only modded system file is uxtheme.dll, all others are original files.

Steps to reproduce it: Load any existing SysStats config file into a SysStats object.

Creating SysStats item from scratch seems to be OK.

Was never able to reproduce it. I advise waiting for SysStats 2.5

THX... not that big a deal to recreate them from scratch, just a bit of a PITA.

#257036

Quick question... are you using the new PidShortcut RecycleBin or the RecycleBin desklet from v1.1?

The fix only works with the PidShortcut version...

pxl8

How can I tell which one's being used?

EDIT: nm...I found the PIDShortcut version in the control panel....trying it now...thanks for the tip

EDIT 2: Looks like success! I would have never thought to look in the PIDShortcut branch....something for the tutorial! Thanks pxl8

#257043

Short description: Labels are forgetting their language script.

Item involving: AveDesk.

Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): XP SP1 Pro, Athlon XP 2000+, 512MB RAM.

Steps to reproduce it: 1. Desklet Properties/Label, click Font.

2. Choose an Unicode font, set its script to Central European, click OK.

3. Click Apply (or don't, there's no difference), re-enter the Font dialogue, script has reverted back to Western.

[bStatus: Confirmed, but I doubt it influences the final output of the text

Bug 1

Short Description: Showcase "forgets" that a drive is unmounted

Item Involving: Showcase

Steps to reproduce it:

1) Create a PidlShortcut and point it towards a plug-n-play drive

2) Unplug the drive and let the desklet disappear

3) Run showcase (the desklet should reappear)

EDIT Nevermind, I didn't see once of the first bugs listed. Sorry. ;)

CONFIRMED

Bug 2

Short Description: Showcase doesn't work with Alt+[key]

Item Involving: Showcase

Steps to reproduce it:

Set Showcase to Activate on an Alt+[key] (for example Alt+F2) and press that key combination

Showcase does work with Ctrl+[key], however. I don't know why Alt doesn't work.

Machine Specs: Pentium-M 1.4GHz, 1.25GB RAM, Radeon 9200 Mobility

GOOD CATCH: CONFIRMED, NO IDEA YET

#257103

Short Description: Something strange after I installed this version. It doesnt remember my label names on a couple of my shortcuts (If I close and exit AD) and some of the icons are a little weird. I attached an example, It's the microsoft excel icon.

Item Involved: Latest Pidlshortcut from here http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread....7039#post257039

Machine Specs: Dell Latitude C840 Laptop, WinXP SP2, 1gb Memory

Steps to reproduce: Create new Pidlshortcut resize image to 25x25 save theme, close AD and reopen.

Example Image http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/attachment....ntid=4939&stc=1

Thanks,

Maz

UNCONFIRMED YET. MAYBE WRONG SETTINGS?

Update: MAZ

Just an update: I uninstalled everyhting and started over. I was able to create 3 shortcuts before it messed up again. Don't know if this matters but they messed up when I created a shortcut to MS Excel. The shell: shortcuts and drive shortcuts are all fine. It's only the ones that point ot actual programs (Since it takes the icon from the .exe I assume there must be something there). Let me know if I can assist in any way.

Maz,

I have seen some more weird thinks reported with Excel+shortcuts, gotta install Excel first

#257104

@Everybody with RecycleBin problems, can you try this test-version and see if the problem still exists? Thanks.

#257112

Short description : bug with Avetunes

Item involved : latest avetunes with Autoinstall

Step to reproduce : run Avetunes with skin Hybrid tiger v2 (I do not if it is related to the skin). increasing/decreasing the volume will increase/decrease the tunes read duration. Doing nothing, the tunes length stays at zero.

EDIT : the bug does not appear if Avefocus (built in) is enabled.

No idea what you mean with 'tunes read duration'

#257128

All bugs have been 'statussed'. In bold text under your message by me.

Yes, it's not a bug. But may be it'd be better if AveDesk had its own function for real icons hiding... Like Stardock IconX... Huh?

I don't want to hostily take-over the desktop (and thus blocking any other interaction with it) like Stardock does. There's a built-in function in XP to hide the desktop-icons.

#257134

I posted once before aboutmy problem, and i haven't gotten a response, but im sure your busy with other things so no big deal.

But does anyone have a power meter desklet for sysStas 2.0 thats actually working in avedesk 1.2...mines is loaded in the control panel, however there's no image or text.....u cant even tell where it is on the desktop, even if f8 or f9 showcase was enabled

A little help, thanks

#257139
