@pcw: Did you tryhttp://mpj.tomaatnet.nl/DesktopGrabber.aveinst ?
Oops no I didn't. I just downloaded the install from one of the mirrors and took for granted that the mirror had the updated install file as well. My mistake. Seems to work properly now ![]()
When I plug in my camera, AveDesk becomes unresponsive and uses high CPU. The only way to solve this is to kill the process.
-Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P8
-USB 1.1
-Plugging in the camera shows a removable drive in My Computer.
-I don't have a desklet set up for my camera.
-Even after setting up a desklet, it seems like it still does the same thing.
-Computer makes a slight hissing sound when plugged in.

@DrEaMs In DiGiTaL: Are you running the auto-mounter module?
Short Description: This isn't so much a bug as a question, though it potentially could be a nasty bug. After installing DesktopGrabber and DesktopInstaller, it asked me once if I wanted to convert my desktop icons into desklets, which I said yes to. But now, whenever I drag files to the desktop, I get nothing. They're just everyday icons. All files do the same thing. And I can't find mention of DesktopGrabber or DesktopInstaller anywhere. Are they supposed to be listed under Extras as a tool?
PS: I have no context menu for AveDesk anywhere but when I click on a desklet. Is there supposed to be a desktop context menu?
PPS: After removing and reinstalling AveDesk, I was able to get a dragged icon to become a Desklet once, but then AveDesk promptly crashed and now it won't respond to dragged icons at all again.
Item involving: DesktopGrabber and DesktopInstaller
Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): Windows XP Professional, 1.8 Ghz P4, 1 gig RAM, Radeon 9700 Pro graphics cards with 5.2 drivers
Steps to reproduce it: I have no idea. I just double clicked the icons to install the packages. DesktopInstaller first, then DesktopGrabber I think.
Short Description: Kindof the same bug as Laertis I think. Except involves the itunes desklet. Avetunes is hidden properly until showcasing. (Also, once it happens, changes to the avetunes skin are not registered visually but are saved for the next avedesk restart.)
Item involving: avedesk + avetunes + 'hide the widget when itunes is not loaded' option enabled + f9 showcase (showcase all) .
Steps to reproduce it: enable the 'hide widget option' for avetunes, f9 then f9 again.
Specs: xpsp2, 1.5 ghz p4, ati9800pro on Omega drivers (5.1 based), a glass of iced cappucinno.
... temporarily fixed when avedesk is restarted.
edit: added specs + the word 'temporarily'
Short Description: When I set a desklet's label to "no label" and then set it to showcase mode, when I view the showcase the desklet has a label that says "Untitled" or something similar. No matter what I do it keeps replacing the label with this.
Item involving: All desklets, showcase
Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): Windows XP, amd Duron 1.3 ghz
Short Description: When using custom icons and there is no "C" drive on the machine, the Recycle Bin (PIDL Shortcut type) always shows as empty, although when using system icons it shows properly.
Item Involving: Recycle Bin on PIDL Shortcut
Steps to reproduce: (1) start with empty Recycle Bin, (2) delete some file to the recycle bin, (3) make sure you are using custom icons and that there is no "C" Drive.
Machine, epcs, etc: Windows XP SP2, 512mb ram, Athlon XP 1500+, ATI Radeon 9000, 3 hard drives (F, G, and H).
i got 2 problems:
desciption 1: adutil won't start avedesk, but will stop it. have to start the prog via menu or explorer.
involving: context menu
to reproduce: right click on desktop and select 'start avedesk'. nothing happens.
edit: i fixed this one. just renamed the 'avedesk12' folder to back to 'avedesk'.
desciption 2: automount not working. not only does the cd not mount on the desktop, but cpu goes to 87-94% for ave and i have to end-task.
involving: automounter.aveinst

specs: wxp sp2; patched uxtheme.dll; flyakiteosx; samurize 1.60; athlon 3000xp; 1gb ram; geforce fx 5200
bug 1 : desktopgrabber doesn't work "properly".. when changing a name of a document on the desktop avedesk makes an extra "shortcut" of that document ending up in having 2 shortcuts to it...
bug 2: when right clicking on desktop and choosing new .psd image.. desktopgrabber (avedesk) will make a shortcut to my computer for some weird reason..
to reproduce: see description
I've got a bug (maybe a stupid one at best)...
Short Description: When I activate Showcase on the desktop itself and then deactivate it (press the same button - for me F11) all the icons disappear until I open a window and minimize it again.
Item Involving: Showcase
Steps to reproduce: Show desktop using Win+D. Run Showcase to fade desktop. Run Showcase again to return to previous state.
Specs: P-M 1.4GHz, 1.25GB RAM, Radeon 9200 Mobility
EDIT After playing around with all the little check boxes, I discovered that this only occurs when the animation is enabled. Cheers!
Im not sure wether this may be a bug or maybe just im not doing it right, but the power desklet will not show, even though it shows its been addedin the avedesk control panel
PC: P4. 2.66GHz, Radeon 9200, 512 MB RAM
Can someone help me out as how 2 get thisworking properly? Please n Thanks
Short Description: Automount drive doesn't work
Item involving: My firewire external hd
Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant): WinXP, Avedesk 1.2
Steps to reproduce it: Load Avedesk (drive is off). Turn drive on. Desklet does not show up. Open Control Panel and change some small entry or label and press ok. Drive shows up. /// Turn drive off. Desklet does not disapper even though checkbox for doing so is checked. However, the sublabel (displays free space) does change to 0 bytes. Window's "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in system tray does not show drive so Windows does recognize that drive has been shut off.

Hey.
Dragging of items.
I'm using two monitors but enabling both of them while using AveDesk will result in disordered placements of the items, such as the note desk. or so. I think it's using the other monitors dimensions and placements as well. Disabling the second monitor will allow the items to be focused and moved in an orderly fashion as it should work.
Excellent product, very nice!
Cheers
Same here...

EDIT: Here is a proper format of a bug report:

Short Description: AveDesk crashed, none of the doskets background will load, and the 3 dockets that were running, have their configs automaticly ruined, none of them have any settings for the backgrounds
Item involving:Digital clock, the short cut icon and the miniweather
Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant):Win XP Pro With Service Pact 2, Intel M processor with 1 gig ddr mem and a 80-gig HD on a Sony Vaio PCG-Z2VAP 16 bit ATI graphic card note book
Steps to reproduce it: have read the instructions, and adjusted the NoMultipleUserAwareness=1 to force AveDesk saving the files in the folder and still no joy, I have replaced the original config files with new ones and still the backgrounds of the dockets will not show up. On the wifi docket, there was over 80 "?" that was in the label.
Sounds like the misery with SysStats
Short Description:
RecycleBin desklet labek only counts files from C:
Item involving:
RecycleBin Desklet
Your Machine specs (OS, CPU, anything you think is relevant):
WinXP Pro SP2
Steps to reproduce it:
Just create a RecycleBin desklet. The behaviour hasn't changed since v1.1.
Something that might be part of the problem is the drive order on my machine which is:
C: system drive
D: CD-Rom
E: data drive
F: CD-RW
Could it be that the desklet stops counting files when it encounters a read only media source?
