Mobydock Dx : The Next Generation Is Finally Here!

Thanks Grusic, I tried that but it doesn't seem to fix to the problem. Adding a large buffer reduced the problem a bit. I guess the sound card drivers are at fault...

Siddharth

click on settings, then choose "regular" priority. Make sure its not set on above than that.

Personaly i set it on high, so it acts independently and flawlessly.

@ others:

god damnit Relax with your replies and have some respect to moby, after all, he has done this #1 dock for free, so knock off the overusage of the 'crap' words ok? - spoiled f***s.

Just a few words before I catch my flight:...

The new dock is sweeeeeeeeeet! :) fast and smooth and doesn't hit 100% on my CPU meter. The running tasks are perfect, too.

Dislikes:

The new dock dropped the feature of how many icons are affected in the zooming effect. I want fewer icons so as the dock isn't so stretched when I mouseover it.

Links behave... weird (!). In order to start a program in a specified folder, I created a link of it, changed its "Start in" property, and placed that link in Mobydock. The new dock forces the program to start in mobydock folder (dockconfig, actually).

In the right part of the dock there are always 3 icons... added manually another one (items.ini) and the clock moved just to the right of the separator (with running tasks between the clock and the "3 icons")

That's enough for now... I'll spend some time updating my wishlist :P

Keep amazing us, Moby!

:)

P.S. I'll be gone for a week or so, Easter holidays (Orthodox Easter, that is), not sure if I'll be able to watch AquaSoft...

Happy Easter, everyone! (or happy.... everything!)

Whats this quality setting for Nvidia users, where do I get it, I have the latest Nvidia drivers.

At the moment I'm not using the dock because the icons are too blurry in idle, shame, because the features it has is very good, better than the other docks.

Requests:

1. No blurry icons

2. Auto hide scroll is faster

3. A way to give the background a shadow.

this dock is great enough. but a few minor thing keep me avoiding it. maybe because I feel too used with Yz. but if you could implement active/inactive dock when the "always on top" feature is off like Yz, then I will use this dock as default straight away. I don't care enough about the running tasks feature, but if you can make me move to this dock, maybe I'll start getting used to tasks feature. and also I can't find any osx background until now. is it too hard?? converting from other docks is a mess. someone pls do it and post it anywhere.thanks. and also I really like the bg shadow. it will make a dock looks beautiful. other docks has implemented it. you can't be left behind with this minor feature :P that's all. I'll keep watching for another release of mobydock. thanks moby. :D

#21703

wait wait everyone..

post wishlists in bug reports/wishlist its already a sticky.

THANKS!!

btw skyliner:

B) IMHO you exaggerate with the blurry icons issue..the dock is useless like this, come on - FYI the icons in idle mode in the OSX are IDENTICALY 'blurry' to the ones on mobydx9. Usually this happens cause of low icon size. That may raise questions of taste prefernces, but i say its neglegable compared to the flaws other docks have.

If the icons in Mac OSX is blurry as well, then i'm sticking to moby dock ;)

Has anyone of you figured out how to impliment a shadow into the background?

Skyliner34

P.S. I'm not saying the dock is useless, well not now anyway  , I just like the sharpness of the other docks.

#21707

after using it... i am back to y'z dock.... maybe i am used to it and i feel that it is more user-friendly.The settings of y'z dock plus the speed of moby dock would be perfect.... sorry moby :(

thanks Contrasutra for the link, I have tried everything to get to Moby's site, and cant get in. Why not put that site on a regular web server? with so many having problems getting to it, what gives?

If not for people like Contrasutra, providing other links, I would think that site was gone forever since I cant get in at all.

Ok I installed the new dock, and it works great! This on a SonyVaio Laptop with and ATI Mobility 7500 Radeon video card in it. I use the drivers from www.omegacorner.com. This dock is very smooth and clear to me, I dont see any of the problems reported thus far.

Great work Moby! Just move the site to a normal place.

Hi

Weel i don´t know what is your problem with the site and only two peoplem (including you) have reported problems entering the site.

And it is on a "regular" server aswell. Probably you are getting problems with the redirector (.tk).

Try the following: refresh the page if it doesn´t work delete your internet temp files. If you are using Norton Internet Sevurity or Norton Internet Firewall disable it temp while loadind the site (because of the redirector) , if you can enter in the site the problem is with your firewall configuration. If you can´t still enter the site please contact me: mikegraphik@hotmail.com by msn so i can make the necessary changes to solve that issue (need your help to test them)

cheers,

mikegraphik

#21723

Siddharth, are you running at Realtime priority, if you are, that can cause the skipping.

Ive used a mac quite a few times, and I dont remember the blurry Icons, is there a setting for it in OS X?

At least now I know why Mikegraphik called it a "feature". The icons arent blurry when the dock is bigger,so its not a mistake.

#21728

oh come on guys, quit bîtchin'! Like I said, the magnification is perfect. On a zoom out state, the icons are a little blurred on the real OS X dock too. They are sharp at a size of 24, 32, 48, 52 etc..

And I think what Moby had in mind was to copy the real OS X dock, and he has done a great job of that. Don't like it, dont blame him. Blame Apple!

erm, then why do we need to copy the weakness of apple? why can't we have better app than apple. show to them that our dock is better. I think no one want blurry icon on their dock, right?

:D

#21734

I dont think its a weakness. Apple obviously meant to do it. It just makes the magnification effect more brilliant. And remember, the point of this community is to emulate OS X

If we make our dock better, elppa might sue Moby. :(

#21737

Its blurry because it is faster. If the dock icons don't have to re-sharpen after each mouse movement, it is obvious that the dock will be MUCH smoother.

In short, Mobydock, I think, would be much slower if the icons weren't blurred.

#21739

About the blurriness.

First there are 2 kinds of blurriness:

1) Extreme blurriness, like to the point of almost jaggies, caused by your dx rendering settings in nvidia, if the dock looks just awful, look here first.

2) The implemented and intentional blurriness, which I don't care for either, and I disagree with anyone who says its needed to get high framerates, i used objectdock until now, and it is perfectly sharp, and i get perfect framerates all the time, the drama needs to calm down about the blurriness, obviously some people like it, some people don't, if moby can implement a feature to disable this in a later version, great, if not, i'm still using the dock because its the best out there right now for my preferences.

@goku: if you look at most of the posts that use the word crap, they say something like "setting up this dock is kinda crappy, but i still think this is a fantastic job", you don't need to be the respect police for moby, i'm sure he's a big boy and can take care of himself, i think the countless numbers of "omfg moby is a god" posts should be enough to handle a few "hay i don't like this dock as much as this other dock" posts. i'm not mad at you or trying to be offensive, i just wish people on here would be more constructive, since we all have a common goal anyhow.

#21743

is this mean that the smoothness in mobydock gain from low quality icons in the dock? than it would be comparable to other docks.

yz and OD has better quality icons in their dock. but until now, no sue came from apple because of their better quality icons. weird :P

moby, just implement turn on/off option for high quality icon in the dock, I'm sure most ppl will turn that on.

#21745

Is the respect police anything like the thought police? Because I could see the similarities.

#21752

Hey guys, i love this dock. As for the blurry issue...because its a "feature" why dont we just make a button in the control panel to turn it on and off, that way everyone can have what they want? Just a thought. Great work Moby! Later.

Still no Unicode supports. All my Chinese shortcuts will display strange ASCII characters.

And my Mobile Radeon 7500 64MB doesn't give me a "silky smoothness" at all. CPU keeps at 100% when moving on the dock.

What a pity!

#21777

The CPU will always be 100% because the Vid Card is drawing the graphics now, but the processor still has to do that "math" for the dock movement. Even the real dock has almost 100% cpu usage.

#21784

yea the real dock even uses a ton of cpu usage.. i mean.. the cpu has to calculate the distance your mouse is from the over icons and to know how to calculate the size of each icon going on both sides of the dock.. and al this other crap

but now it can be faster because the gpu now renders the dock making it smoother... but calculations are still needed by the cpu

-bolero

#21790

Tooo slow on my comp with 64 mb video card, i will stick to od as it is silky smooth. Ihope more feature will be added to OD and happy to wait for them

#21791

I cant figure it out. This new dock runs VERY badly for me. I have a Radeon 9500 Pro, 512mb RAM, Athlon XP 2000+ and this dock runs very very badly. For example, when I run the mouse over the dock the icons are very slow to magnify, also when I click a link in the dock the bounce effect is VERY VERY slow. I am using the very latest Catalyst drivers and the newest DirectX version so I dont know what could be causing this. Does anyone else with similar hardware experience this same issue ? :(

Replace your original ones in dockconfig.

Don't ***** about the dock, **** you. Thx moby.

#21799

Yeah I have great hardware too and the dock works like crap for me. The icons magnify well, but they look blue for some reason. I have dx 9 and nvidia 43.5 drivers installed. Moby, if you release a bugfix maybe I'll consider using your dock, but for now I'm sticking to Y'z, and I suggest all you do too. ;):(

Why tell us not to use mobys' dock if its just running crap for you and a few others. I have had hardly any problems with the dock. Only problems Ive had are user errors on my part. And things I was able to fix. Sure it needs some work but its the best out there at the moment. :)
