[release] Es.xxi's Sys File Installer

Glad to hear it! Did you close all your processes or just use the installer straight away in safe mode?

(Edit: Woo my 100th post! :D)

#62836

entered safe mode through msconfig, rebooted, killed taksman, explorer, userinit, winlogon and anything else that I could, installed, restarted, open msconfig, normal startup, startup tab, kill those things I dont want to start, reboot.

#62839

Sorry if any of my comments sounds like an assho##e but i was thinking it doesn't work at all. Now we know it need safe mode and it works fine. Good to know that, and my apologies, ofcourse. :shy:

#62849

I got it and installed it in normal mode but shutdown explorer.exe and ran a new task as instructed and you know what it woks fine. the only thing I cannot seem to get are the fonts zip but apart from that then well done.

It would help if I uploaded it.. I'll do that tomorrow sorry everyone. :(

Glad to hear it worked for you :)

#62861

safe mode worked perfect.

#62872

[help] I am new to this so stay cool. What does this 'installer' actually do. :joystick:

#62876

my installer doesnt require you to shutdown explorer or boot into safe mode. my installer gets shell32.dll installed by copying the file to a temp directory and at next boot up installs the files.

#62882

I just used it. I had a previous mod pack applied, by i don't know who, and I don't know when.

But I checked the screenshot a few posts up, and compared it to what i *did* have, rebooted, and now my stuff resembles the screenshot exactly. So whatever it DID do, it apparently worked just fine, no errors. Upon reboot my explorer bars were removed, but a quick right click fixed all that.

oh, and my calc.exe still works just fine. I just looked at the icons in my shell32.dll, and they are definately not the windows default icons. So.. who knows.

#62890

Good to hear. My calc.exe worked fine until a few resets later it stopped working, so it's best to be ready with another one spare me thinks. :)

#62891

Glad it all worked out, es. Ya young whipper-snapper. Did I ever tell you about when I was in Berlin....... lol

#62894

I got my reward seeing my name on the Aqua-Soft from pages.. So very proud I am!

Any installer released would require you to close all applications, unless it was something very special. Is booting into Safe mode such a hassle?

its quite easy to make an installer without requiring one to reboot into safe-mode or shutdown all apps including explorer.

do check out NSIS.

#62903

YAY!!! problems gone, n im downloading now :D

#62917

scratch that.

Rebooted, logged into my account. A-O-K.

Switched user, girlfriend tried logging into her account, explorer would not start. Tried manually starting it, it'd throw out some error and close. Rebooted, explorer wouldn't start for either of us.

Did a restore point from yesterday. Everything's AOK. Not to dis this guy's stuff, or discredit it, but that was just my experience.

aww, don't be scared. You can always use a system restore. Just hit F8 while booting, safe mode, it'll ask right away if you want to use system restore.

As for specially creating a system restore point before using, i didn't. I'm on the laptop right now, which is only open every so often, and i've never manually created a restore point. But found that I had one from yesterday at 2:08pm. Go figure.

#62924

It worked fine in windows. I did not have to close explorer or any thing like that. Just run it and it works fine :D

I can't wait to see what croka99's installer is like :woot:

#62931

If you can remember the errors, pass them on to Pack and hassle him to see what's wrong. ;)

The girlfriend was reading it off. So it was half-assed. And I walked her through the system restore from the other side of the room. Never bothered putting down my beer to mess with it.

If i get the boredom to give it another shot, I'll letcha know.
