Gno-sx - Gnome Total Conversion.

as of this posting none of the comcast links in any of the replies work. it says that the user is in the process of moving in. such a great theme and hopefully the link situation gets worked out soon so i can download it. i did manage to find the icon theme mirrored somewhere else however. maybe you should consider posting this on like themes.freshmeat.net or someplace like that.

great theme! keep up the excellent work!

cant find the edit post button so i'll just post again. the only links that i can get to work are the screenshots. if i delete the picture part of the path to view the directory i get the user has not moved in screen thing so something must work.

#107817

still cant find the edit button. wget worked just fine. links are ok and i am officially dumb.

ps. your theme rocks!

Wow!! this is sooo awesome man!,, i loved the font tip, it looks totally like a mac :rule:

i got one question though, is there some way to skin apps like aMSN, GIMP and such? they don't seem to adapt to the theme, and i've seen screenshots of ppl that have the GIMP using a theme just like the rest of the apps, or is it the're using a newer version? i got 1.2.5, as for aMSN, i haven't seen screenshots with it using a theme so i don't know about that.

again, great work dude!,, i can't get over how much my computer looks like a mac now :own:

this thing definitly :rockband:

#113101

you need the development version of the gimp that uses gtk2

the old version uses gtk, which is why it looks so bad.

amsn is written using tcl/tk, i don't think you'll have much luck getting it to look anything but ugly. i might be wrong though.

#113183

oh damn, i like aMSN but i'd love it if it could integrate with the rest of the theme,, oh well!, can't have it all i guess. I suppose the history is the same with Open Office eh?

#114118

I have the theme installed fine, but now I have a few questions:

1. Now I have 3 scroll bar buttons (2 up, 1 down) how can I remove the top one?

2. I can't get the icons installed, I used the theme dialog to open the tar of the icons but nothing happens

3. How do you get the taskbar to look like the one in the screen shot?

(Sorry if these questions have been asked before, but a search of the forums yielded nothing.)

EDIT: I fixed the icon problem, apperentally there's a bug which causes the theme loader to load the icons into the wrong folder. o.0

#116236

err.. two questions, I'm assuming you're using Ximian Gnome in your screenshots. (hence the little "Finder" style App list grouping in the icon [top-right] instead of being displayed on the whole panel). Can you tell me how you modified the default menus (ie: System, Help, ect) and managed to just leave one menu called "Actions"? This has been bugging me all day. >.<

And btw, what distro are you using? If it's RedHat 9, mind telling how the hell you go rid of that annoying "My Computer" icon on the desktop!? This isn't microsoft damnit! I Don't want that icon here! And to make amtters worse, It's this gross little icon that tried to resemble the "Explorer" icon from like, Windows 95. -_- I managed to change it. But I can't delete it/rename it. This is driving me insane!

This horrible little splinter in the corner of my screen, laughing at me, constantly, laughing. It says: "u n00b, m3 = t3h pwNz + j00!". AHH! :rant:

If anyone can tell me how to get rid of that little ass-hole, please help. Thanks. :blink:

I'm also interested in gnome 2.6 pack, any news?

#160613

also awaiting gno-sx 2.6

for the record most of gno-sx already works with gnome2.6. so i wouldnt think there would be much work that needs to be done, but i've never themed anything myself ever so what do i know.

EDIT: Gno-SX 2.6 Released, first Post of this thread for Download Links and Changelog

Thank you Grand_Masta. It's totally awesome and WELL worth the wait!

I have a question for you. Form your screen shots you seem to have a heavily darkened font.

In your original post you said:

I reccomend using the included 'Ludica Grande.ttf' for optimal Aquaness. put it in ~/.fonts

To get the added look i use Size 10, 96 DPI, Greyscale smoothing, Hinting set to None. :)

However my Ludica Grande is pretty "thin" and not very dark at all. Putting this on bold it too dark, but there is no medium bold in the fonts, at least the ones i have. I have found that using Myriad Apple at 11 size looks pretty good on my LCD.

Are you using something other than the Ludica Grand fonts you mentioned in your original post? I think many people would like to know as your screen shots look pretty damn awesome.

Also on a side note, is there any way to get Nautilus to start putting new files/mnt items on the right hand side like Mac instead of the left hand side of the desktop?

And one more question for any other people out there. Does anyone know how to edit the clock schema so that it displays Days and Time instead of Days, Month, Date and Time. I believe OS X just displays "Wednesday 6:43PM" instead of "Wed May 19, 6:43PM"?

Once again thanks for all of your truley amazing work. I'm running it on 2.4 right now and it's great. Hopefully 2.6 will makes it's way to Debian testing in the next couple months.

It's **** like this that makes me want to go back to Linux..... >.<

This is just amazing! Nice man. :smartass:

#164745

This theme is great. Its all working except for the nautilus icons, they all appear as the piece of paper with the turned corner. Is anyone else having this problem with gnome 2.6. I even tried the brand new gnome 2.6 version of this theme and am having the same problem. Thanks in advance.

Awesome theme, but I have one problem.. :(

I don't know it's a metacity or gtk fault.. but I apply the theme and the toolbars and buttons are not skinned properly

#165533

Thanks Grand_Masta for the update, I'll update now :D

#165582

ArKaNiS, The non skinned buttons are because you do not have the gtk-engines-pixmap OR gtk-engines-pixbuf.

Any current distro should have it, at least on the cd's.

i will edit my main post to include, Must Have Gtk Pixmap/Pixbuf Engine Installed.

indiix2, mind showing a sshot of your Text?

and i just noticed you said you are using an LCD, i think this is where the problem is coming from.

jefmsmit, Im not sure, What nautilus version?

#165641

Grand_Masta, three things:

1. Attached screen shot is comparing Lucida Grande 11 (which you suggest), regular and bold, vs Myriad Apple 11 (which i think looks better). My Lucida Grande vs yours on your screen shots is much thinner and the bold is just not right. I have found however that the Myriad Apple 11 looks MUCH closer to real OS X. However the only copies of the Myriad Apple fonts i can find are corrupt. Thus it only uses the regular text OR the itallic, and ignore the bolds, meduims, etc (even though all the correct types of ttfs are in the fonts folder). I am on an LCD but i don't think that would cause the fonts to be so completely different in thinkness than those in your screen shots.

fontdisplaysmall.png

Full Size

2. I have noticed a problem, at least what i think is a problem, in your Gno-SX-2.6 icons theme that was causing my gdesklets starterbar to crash after uploading (i sent you an email about this via your aqua-soft account). In your index.theme file you have:

[24x24/apps]

Size=Scalable

Context=Applications

Type=Scalable

[24x24/stock]

Size=Scalable

Context=Stock

Type=Scalable

The Size=Scalable seems wrong. I don't really know if this is gnome2.6 or not. If it is, then just ignore my comments, except for those out there using this on 2.4 with starterbar. Otherwise the Size needs to =24. All the rest of the index.theme sizes are correct.

3. Does anyone out there know how you can change the "show desktop" icon that is used in the bottom panel? The Gno-SX icon theme changes the "Show Desktop" launcher button in the menu, but the little charcoal looking desktop with pencil icon is a mystery. I've looked in /user/share/icons and even in gconf to try to change this to something else.
