Hey, ive been having problems with the dock (RK launcher). For a strange reason the docklet makes, i believe, RKL freeze on a random basis. I fear it is this docklet because I took it out of RK now and i havent had any crash at all.

Can anybody confirm this? Im running Vista Home 32b and RK build 285.

Can it be my icons? just a random thought...

EDIT:

I am testing the new version now with the default icons. And thanks for the option to run app even when no new mails!!!

BTW, cool preview you put in the first post! :)

#512041

Well I have updated the docklet to use default ports for IMAP & POP3 Protocols... you can still change the value if the default does not fit your setup.

#512053

Another small update... I have included an mailbox parameter that let you configure the mailbox that will be queried when using IMAP protocol. I hope this helps those who are experiencing problems wiht IMAP not reporting any mails.

#512057

When you set "Run program even when there are no mails" it uses the new mail icon instead of the no mail icon when there is no mail, could this be fixed?

#512071

Thanks for a great docklet!

I've tested this for a while now, both with Objectdock and Avedesk. And it crashes every now and then when it's checking for mails. Pretty often actually. And it's not because of missing internet connection. Any ideas?

#512098

The thing here is that there icon is really a checked/unchecked icon.... but yes... I think I can adjust this.

Edited: Fixed in v0.1.0.7j

I would need more info in order to understand your environment... like how many accounts, what type, your OS, etc. While checking the accopunts, the docklet changes it's label to show the status of each account as thery are being checked, you may conduct the following test... change the check interval to, say 2 minutes, and while the docklet is checking the accounts look at the label... so you may recall what account caused the docklet to crash. This way I would have, at least, the type of account that is causing the problem (assuming you have more than one type).

In my personal setup I have configured all my accounts as IMAP... as such I have faced no problems leaving the computer on for up to two days... the protocol that misbehaved a bit was the HTTP for gmail... if you have an account of this type please check the "do not check this account" for that account and see if that prevents the dock from chasing.

Thanks for a great docklet!

for a reason i think it is the Gmail via HTTPS that is causing this crashes.

If you read a couple of posts above i also had this, the issue seems to be gone after using the imap alternative with Gmail.

So far, so good :)

I have only one account.

Using Vista Home Ult. 32

Indeed... it seems that the problems are with HTTPS... so I have setup both my VM's to continually check on my gmail account every other minute... I hope I can get it to reproduce your problems...

So long it's been 2 hours and none of them have crashed... still waiting.

Another small update... added some error handling code to the Gmail HTTP checking function & updated the configuration dialogs' code to show them in the center of the screen & centered in relation to the general settings dialog... in short, the dialogs should behave better now.

Using the most recent version, RocketDock quits unexpectedly after a short period of time (10 minutes or so).

Kind regards,

James

I will try to debug it on RocketDock next week... just need a bit more info to test it properly:

OS version, RocketDock version, number & type of accounts, how frequently do you check for new email, etc.

Using the most recent version, RocketDock quits unexpectedly after a short period of time (10 minutes or so).

#512171

I revisited the Gmail Checking code and found a well hidden but (yes I was able to reproduce the crash under Rocketdock... althought there was a bug, ObjectDock never crashed... who knows)

I hope v0.1.0.7l would fix the crashes reported from some of you.

#512175

Thank you for the rapid updates.

For your information, I am using the most recent version of RocketDock, 1.3.5, with a single Gmail account, checking using the HTTPS method every two minutes.

I shall download the bugfixed version and let you know how things progress...

Cheers,

James

I tried with the info you PM'd me today and could not find any reason the docklet would not show the UNSEEN mails.... but I was wondering... does the EXISTS number shows properly? That is, disable the checkbox next to IMAP protocol just to double-check that it might be a parsing issue... the docklet should show the total number of mails in your account.

Also check for any other error like unable to connect or the like.

Hey @ all!

First I want to say hello to everybody and especially thank you, Fedro, for this great Plugin. I have been reading here since several weeks and now the time has come :-)

I'd like to check my mails (IMAP), but without success. The plugin cannot find any (new) mail. I think the problem is, that the folder of the german provider and the default plugin-folder seem to be different. Would there be a way to manually the folder I'd like to check?

Fedro, you wrote about a little script, that can look on my server - could yout pm me a link, please?

And I have another little wish. I completly disabled the task bar and now just use OD. When Outlook is minimized and I click on the CheckMail-Button, Outlook won't return to the foreground - would it be possible to implement this feature?

Thank you so much, Andy

I have updated the CheckIMAP utility (http://www.feterspace.com.mx/downloads/CheckIMAP.zip - please redownload it) and added an additional parameter (1/0) to check for unseen = 1 / exists = 0 also added the code that parses the list command output... so it should show the number of mails retrieved... please give it a try and post your results.

Hmmm, doesnt take effect - no mails in my inbox - even stored ones.

Just answered your pm :-) Cannot find any difference in the utility output

I think I found the issue...

the updated docklet should work now (v.0.1.0.7m). Thanks for the account you may disable it in a few days if you do not find any other problems.

Are there any relevant issues with the docklet that I haven't taken care of? I have not received any updates on the crashing related to gmail accounts... and just released an update that hopefully will solve some IMAP issues... am I missing anything... the thread has just grown too big for me to remember...

Thank you all for your ongoing support.

#512320

Did you configure a Gmail account? If so, does the latest updates solved the problem?

I left my development machine running for 10 hours with both RockletDock & OD checking every other minute my Gmail account via HTTPS & IMAP... never crashed.

Thanks for a great docklet!

Could it have anything to do with bandwidth? The reason I ask is when it happens I usually have several other things connecting to the internet.

#512322

I would need to test under that assumption... what kind of workload you have when that happens?

Well between running for tabs in Firefox and always reloading them4 widgets downloading information and I have been coding a widget that pulls info and I have had to reload that a lot. just about all are fetching about every 5 minutes.

#512335

I am testing with a 1GB download while running the docklet on both OD/RD... it will take about 4 hours while my bandwidth will be peaked to almost to 100%... let's see if the docklet fails...

Edit: It took 4+ hours to download the file... the docklet never crashed. I would need to continue testing, please post your feedback if you continue to face crashes.

#512338

here mine:

While crashes had deacrease A LOT, ive still had but one so far. I would agree with the bandwith limit, but maybe is it also with the number of running applications that the dock is showing?

I remember Firefox was running when RKL crashed, after trying to hover the mouse over RK it went like the image i posted here.

Other than that i dont remember in detail what really lead to the crash. Ill pay more attntion when it comes again, take a ss and maybe catch the info that windows gives of why the crash happend (not always works).

But for a reason, crashes have decreased, yes; you are on the right path :)
