Dominion R&d Team : Project Suggestions

a name for the group? whoa.. this game's starting to sound very interesting..

#51869

hey mag, i think i need u to be more specific in your explanation of the remaining group of zhi-jian-ker. r u saying that u need a name for the group (school?)? or merely individual titles for each of them? like how they call all the x-men and still, each has a very unique name which more or less caps their abilities. such as nightwalker, storm and so on. i mean, u sort of need a group or school name (inspired by harry porter), logo, uniform (formal occsaion only) for all the zhi-jian-ker which distincts their kind from the rest of the universe. and as well as a name for each of them (yeah, inspired by the x-men). this is so far what your idea has tipped me into thinking. if it's not close to what you mean, please give further specification.

p.s. i've added u to my msn, please authorise... thx

#51892

You've been authorized as you will see when you come back from lunch.

Actually, i need a name just like "x-men" Each and every individuals won'T have a super-hero name like in the x-men serie but their real name.

They are a small population and i need a name to recognize them from the others.

Example: There is a population similar to these zhi jian ker except they live freely throughout the space and are not necessarily grouped or have a leader. They are called the Freeborns. Now i need a name just like that for my zhi jian ker. Not a school name but a name for the population.

Also, i wanna correct a small mistake you made in naming the x-men heroes.

It is not nightwalker but Nightcrawler...

(yep, i'm a big fan of those x-men) :own: :D;)

#51922

hmm.. so the zhi jian ker are part of a clan.. and you're looking for a name for the clan.. mm.. i'll try thinking of one later - don't have any imagination now ;)

#51927

ok, i see what u mean now. in this case we need a really cool name for the group (or clan). i mean, this got to be a made up name yet with reasonable explanation. we need sth that sounds sci-fi, mysterious, ancient yet from the future, and all that. i will do some research for ya and hope to come up with a really sth name for you. keep in touch, all of you...

p.s. hey mag, i know u've authorized me but i didn't seem to be able to find you in the list, what's ur msn nickname. btw, i've got like 100 names in the list. so it'd be easier if u tell me...

#51939

i just wrote you a message but if you can't find me, my nickname is Magnolium and my email is biotek58@hotmail.com

Now, since this "clan" is based off the oriental culture, it'd be nice if the name was a chineese name too but from a simple word.....

Also, i'd like to know how would you say Silver in chineese????

#51964

hey everyone, mag and i discussed a little bit more about the main character of the game as well as the zhi-jian-clan. though we have not yet come to agree on a name for the clan, however, based on what mag said about the main hero - Jack Silver - i have come up with this chinese translation, which mag seemed to be happy with. so i'll have you guys take a look at it and please please please do give me your opinions. if u can think of a better one, don't hesitate, please let mag himself know it. for now, that is what we have so far...

p.s. just to clarify, in case some of u don't understand. in chinese culture, the way we present our names is different from that of the english ways. we put our last name (surname, family name, whatever u call it) in front. so jack silver in chinese (or japanese), it becomes silver jack)... inspired by this, thus the name popped up to me...

#51988

Hey all, we at least need tek or Rain or livecn's opinion on a clan name!!

Is there a chinese word for something like "those who are not there" ????

What about "the unseens" ????

You got something else??

#52259

Magnolium, does "those who are not there" mean those people who can hide themselves from human's visions?

And what does "the unseens" mean?

Some details about these words may help us come out with proper translations. :)

the unseens.. as in invisible people?

#52305

Unseen : Invisiable ; YING- SING(Chinese)

The "unseen" ones : Ying - Zhe ("Unseen" one in Chinese)

Ying Ren Zhe - Invisible Ninja.

Ying - shadow in Chinese, refers to invisible in certain usage.

Mars is probably hot and fiery, so why not name these guys by "elements". SOmething like : Huo Ying Zhe (Invisible Fiery one) Or Simply : Huo Ying (invisible Fire; can be used to address a clan or village.)

Jupiter : MU -Sing (Chinese, The pronounciation is also similar to "wood" and "Sight" in Chinese)

Therefore, Jupiter Clan will be "Mu - Ying - Zhe". We can use the word "Sight" in replacement for "Wood"; meaning "invisble sight".

I can think up of other names, but need to know your opinion on these names guys, so feel free to improve on it.

I can come up with the Chinese Characters, tomorrow at latest. I'm a manual labourer, so it kinda saps my strength everyday after work. :ninja:

livecn and tek, they actually cannot be invisible to the human eye, they just hide from the rest of the world and little know about them. They are almost like a legend.

They decided to live in the shadow but when the main hero, who comes from them, will say it outloud that he is from them, the legend will be confirmed. They actually exist and we have a live threat.

So, Rain, Huo Ying sounds very impressing, mostly the translation: invisible fire.

They are what keeps the whole population hoping. Hoping that someday this similar to feudalism monarchy will stop. For that to happen, they need someone outside of that enslaved world, someone that still remembers what it is to live for yourself.

Actually, the team and I realized that our story is based on alot of philosophical facts.

I hope you guys understand that i can't give out much informations for now.

One thing though, this "clan" will not originate from Mars so would it be a problem in that way???

#52358

hey, how can u guys discuss with the absence of the great mike!!!? lol... nah, just playin... can u guys wait for me, i am actually in the middle of thinking about it too. but i am too phuckin busy at the moment, i've got a flash magazine to knock down. give me a couple of days ok, mag, livecn, tek and rain?! talk to u soon, hopefully with the new clan name too... later...

#52430

@magnolium : No Problem on that. We can find suitable elements to address these groups.

#52445

I agree with rain's idea "Huo Ying"(Inivisble Fire or Shadow of Fire). This sounds cool especially in Games. This name is quite nice as long as the clan doesn't use ice as weapons.... :)

#52499

Here's the Chinese version of the words. I don't use Chinese on my pc, but, I have Kanji Fonts (Traditional Japanese words, borrowed from old set of Chinese Characters), therefore, I made use of these characters

#52536

If the name should have some relationship with "hidden" or "unseen", I think "Huo Yin" is also a choice. "Huo" = fire, "Yin" = hidden. If you don't like the "fire", you can think o f changing it to "Yin Ke" (the "Ke" is the same as the one in "Zhi Jian Ke").

Anyway, I've put the characters of Huo Ying and Huo Yin in the below. Hope it helps.

To rain: Huo Ying is really a cool name. (Y)

#52596

mm.. those are good names! i was thinking of "Wu Ying" as in no shadow but compared to "Huo Yin" and "Huo Ying", that's kinda boring ;)

#52599

This is all very interesting and i thank you all for that, tek if you wish you can post an image of Wu Ying, it is also interesting!

We're just waiting for youngou's opinion on all of that.... :ninja:

#52613

no problem..

hi everyone, sorry i am late. but just as usual i don't come empty-handed. so here we go, here's my interpretation of the name for the clan. i named the group as 'moon shadowy'. of course, just when you're about to look dazed and confused, i have some explanation for u guys as to why i pick this name:

in our ancient culture, stealth assasins were quick, cold, and quiet, they usually worked, lived or killed best in the dark, i.e. at night. because it provided such an ideal environtment and atmosphere for them to move around unnoticed. but however mysterious they were, they were not completely unseen or unchasable. we could still sense their existence - thru the fast motional blurry shadow under the moon light, which moved around from corner to corner, alley way to alley way.

another reason why i use moon rather than fire, which is quite important, is that it stands for the coldness, darkness, and almost everything that is best to happen at night, whereas fire is a symbol of warmth and light (brightness). cos i wanna give all (especially jack silver) of their characters some mystery, stealth, cold (could still be warm inside) appearance, and the half almost always unseen face (or revealin' only their night-owl-spirit eyes). so yeah, basically that's why. i don't know if it made sense to u guys, but i think it's better for them, kekeke....

and right, i have absolutely no objection to any of the other names here. i think they are all fantastic. i am just presenting mine as one of the options. so mag, pick one for ur own like. won't piss any of us off anyway...lol... all righty, see u soon.

#53080

youngou, i find it very interesting!

I don't know about livecn, tek and Rain but i like it.

I'd like to have their opinion on chosing though...

i wouldn't wanna piss any of you guys since you have all been very helpful.

One thing related to youngou though, your description of everything cold and stuff is very cool. Only one thing you must know. Jack Silver was born in this clan, raised for 2 years by his parents and once they died, he was raised by a tutor and then left the clan, a thing none of the others ever did. Also, Jack Silver's mother was not part of the clan, so basically Silver is an half-breed man.

meaning he's an excellent zhi jian ker but, the outside environment changed his fighting perceptions and thus he forged a whole new technique which is unique to Jack Silver.

The clan will not be very friendly towards Silver once he left it. But the thing is, Silver and the clan are fighting for the same reason.

The clan, in these days, could be qualified as a terrorist cell since they are silently working against the government.

A few people (close to none) have seen this clan and that is why they are seen as a legend.

Hope this all helps you choose guys...

I'll come up with my final decision in a few days...

I need to hear your opinion in the meantime though!! :D

#53102

hey mag, thx for the feedback so far. i think the name 'moon shadowy' needs a lil' additional explanation since mag u may not get the picture in my mind very clearly. in fact it's very difficult to tell cos it's kinda too abstract a figure could be. anyway, i'll try to detail it a bit more below.

the name was actually inspired partly by a very old nintendo bitmap game i played when i was a kid. it was called the 'the legend of shadow'. u get and only get to play this ninja-like young man thru out the entire game, advancing levels by killin countless villain ninjas. i never reached the final level, but i had played it enough to remember it til now.

moon, when conceived with a hero, can be related to a lot of his characters. as i said: stealth, solemnity, swiftness, bleakness cold-blooded (if needed to eliminate bad guys) and sometimes loneliness. it would remind u of an image probably of a man sitting on a roof top of a temple being with his 'best friend' - the moon. yeah, despite of such cold appearance, the hero could still be very kind and warm at heart. unlike some other symbolic words, moon does not often relate to the evil, real cold-blooded kind of cold, and can be used to a group of decent characters, particiularly the one in which jack silver is from.

man, i can tell u a whole lot about this, but i don't wanna take up too much forum space, so there u go, u're welcome to ask me on the msn, but i never get to see u again except for the first time.... lol... r u trying to be jack silver.... lol...?!

I would like to add to youngou's above-mentioned explanation.

In ancient Chinese legend, there was once a fairy, who came down to earth and fell in love with a mortal man. When the 'Heavenly Emperor' knew of this, he ordered other deities to capture her at all cost.

By then, she has already bore that mortal man a son, and she refused to go back from where she came from. The other deities did finally captured her. The ' Heavenly Emperor' was touched by the love between them, so gave them a chance to meet each other on a bridge every Lunar festival, when the moon is round and beautiful.

There has been another similar story for the Japanese, where a wood cutter found a tiny baby inside a bamboo while harvesting in the groove. He raised the tiny baby and she has lotsa of admirers, one including the Emperor himself. However, the woman knew in her heart that she will need to go back to the moon someday and eventually did, leaving the emperor heart-broken.

So to the Chinese and Japanese, the moon not only signifies what youngou has mentioned above, but it also signifies the beauty and the gentleness of a woman. Just like the Japanese admiring the cherry blossoms during April, Chinese eat 'mooncakes' while admiring the moon.

And for the name wise, 'Yue-Ying' do sounds feminine, unless 'Zhi jian ker' has an alternate personality in which he likes to cross-dress.

In lotsa Chinese names, there are a number of them with the word 'Yue' (moon) in it,, because the parents hope that the girl will grow up to be as beautiful as the 'moon', in which everyone admires.

'Yue-ying' is best suitable to be a name for a female assasin, both beautiful and merciless. But if we add any more 'Ying' (shadow), it will only make the game sounds cheesy.

Just my opinion. :ninja:

#53153

totally agree with what rain said. but as i've told you mag on the msn, when put together with other different chinese characters, it could mean different things with completely opposite meanings. but here moon is used to describe mainly the clans various attributes i've mentioned so far. it has nothing to do with femininity, at least not within my understanding. i admit that when i was thinking up the name i have not taken that into consideration. however, moon, in esthetical term, could bring in the feminine curve that rain mentioned. but in general term, it actually has a far broader range of meanings rather than a pure reflection of femininity. here're some examples why it's not so:

moon-machete: this is a large, heavy knife with a broad blade, used by the demon-hunter one of the 4 heros of the night-elf race in warcraft 3, night-elves as u know (if u've played the game), are elites of the night.

moon-well: a fountain of engegy and magic, heals the wound and recovers the mana of night elves. it regenerates itself at night under the moon light.
