Switching To A Mac

Dz (me) is looking forward to his nForce3 250 platform in September running SMP Opterons. I'm gonna call it "Mac Daddy" and do whatever it takes to ensure the system smokes a G5.

I'm already talking to a friend of mine thats into serious modding about having a custom case ready, with light reflective paint and all the goodies. I've even started talking to different machine shops to make some custom mods to the aluminum casing.

This system will outbenchmark a Mac and look better than a Mac.

Because I'm evil.

OK, Its on its way.. I ordered another 17" Powerbook G4 with 512mb of ram. All of my mac enthusiasm has come from being here at Aqua-soft and from using the applications here to try on my SonyVaio GRX-570 Laptop. Looks great on this 1600x1200 120hz res 16.1" vieweable TFT screen, and will now look even better when the 17" Powerbook arrives.

Apple, Please note I can guarantee that I would have probably never have purchased an Apple system if not for Aqua-soft and the applications shared here to emulate Jaguar OSX.

If anyone knows where I can get an inexpensive additional 512mb stick of ram for this Powerbook please let me know by emailing me the link at H4rMXP@hotmail.com

Bring on my 17" Powerbook!

:order:

Likewise, I'd like to jack my Powerbook's memory up to 1024mb too.:lol: BTW: H4rM I see that my advise paid off, congrats for the second time. (Y)

If it uses SDRAM (which I think it does), any Best Buy or CompUSA will sell it dirt cheap ($15 - 128MB). Apple rips you off.

Just look for a sale, they're once a week practically.

#39135

Thnx, a nice member from here told me to check crucial, only 145.00 for 512mb of ram.

#39142

$145 for 512MB of SDRAM :o , how I loath people and their "tips".

#39143

contrasutra, why? you find that expensive?

Is that paired?

#39172

i was going to buy a mac, until apple shut down yz dock

#39175

No, just usery

Its expensive because its $15 a stick where I live. So that would be $50-60 for 512MB. That would be 60% less.

I just loaded by Duron up with a gig of SDram for like $80.

#39176

i want a 17inch iMac really bad...

but on the other hand nForce3 and athlon64 3100+ sounds damn good to me

i used to be a mac user back in the day around the times of OS 5 and OS 6 then i moved to pc and left mac completely. part of me wants to go back.

well, the powerbook does use a shorter stick than normal desktops, but i dont know how widely available they are....and on crucial.com for the 17", 256MB is $45 ($100 less than the 512MB )

contra, you know a better place to get RAM for the powerbook? (i dont mean to sound mean, im just curious)

#39185

I was talking about Laptop SD. Desktop sdram is even cheaper.

I usually get it at my local bestbuy/comp-usa.

They have sales every couple weeks, and its really cheap.

#39186

contrasutra, best buy doesnt sell the ram for the powerbooks. Got any sources you can suggest for me to try?

#39201

I can get paired pc2700 KingstonX at around $100 for 2 256mb sticks. What exactly are you looking for?

#39208

I got my iBook's 512 MB stick for $82 US.

#39249

looking for the ram that goes in the 17" powerbook, 1 stick of 512mb of ram (SODIMM DDR PC2700 333 MHZ notebook memory), at a great price. If you know or come across any links where they sell it around for what Taha got it, ploease let me know. My Powerbook will be here Tomorrow and I need to order the extra 512 to get 1 gb total.

Please someone tell me what the difference is between this ram... the cheap vs the expensive. It is for a new Powerbook that comes with 512 mb of ram already.
