I talked to some Spymacians and they confirmed it was running great on their macs too.
And don't forget, it runs great on my PC too so I can't understand why you're having problems..

AMD, *sigh* yes.. ok they r (so not yet) better, however in the long run you'd pay a lot more electricity for small speed differences. The water cooling fan. thats the only plus. But it will still be nosier than those small engined scooters

Hmmmm.... Run the Benchmark test and see what you get. Maybe you dont mind lower frame rates or something. I get 35-40FPS on the benchmark in windows at 1024x768, and 50-55fps in linux.
thats actually one of the things I wanted to ask - how the hell do I get benchmarks in UT? Also, how the hell do I take screenshots? They all turn out messed up.. 
Well, in the system folder of UT2003, look for the "benchmark" executable. I guess it wouldnt be a .bin or .exe on a mac.
And for screenshots, I use a program called FRAPS. It measures frame rates, takes movies and snapshots. Unfortunatly, I dont know if its available for the mac.

dunno whats causing it to be faster, but there are so many GUI things the mac has on the osx that runs sooo fast and smooth while the pc can barely handle winfx or yz compared to it.
not to mention all the quality and stability of the GUI comapred to the PC.

Really? Macs are more stable than Linux? I beg to differ. Ive ran UT2003 on a plain framebuffer, so no overhead.
Though both linux and Mac uses OpenGL, which seems to be much faster than DirectX, which the windows version uses.
actually its different on the mac. You have to use the terminal to run a script. Anyway, I got it. Here are the results:

Damn, They must have really tweaked ut2003 for the mac. They did have a year extra to work on it. Im so jealous. I have to get a G5 now and watch ut scream.
EDIT:// OK, I think I figured it out. I believe the benchmark uses whatever lighting and effects settings you have in game. Ive got the effects all turned up, w/ AA x4 (quincux). So if the benchmark uses those settings, it makes sense, that is, if you dont have the effects turned up.

Well, I read that UT2003 runs better on macs for some reason. Donno, maybe its optimized or something. I don't know though, coz remember I ain't no gamer
But what I DO find impressive and surprising is that my LAPTOP runs as good as your desktop . The Dual G4 reportedly gets between 60-80 FPS.. Again, thats only what I've read...

Actually, no. My oldest son is adopted. He still has a trust fund from his blood related grandparents that pretty much has him set for life. That's right, my 6 year old already has more money than I will probably ever earn in my life...his bloodline comes from OLD money. They just make sh*tty parents.
My other two kids...well, I quit college to open my first business at the age of 19. I opened my second at 23. My third business seems to be doing pretty well now, and I was able to skip the liberal brain-washing (probably why I don't worship Apple hardware). So if they want to go, they can get a scholarship. I know too many people with degrees ranging from Bachelors to Doctorates that cannot find work. A degree doesn't mean what it once did in the USA.
As for the power consumption - I doubt it will be that much. The Opteron isn't the usual AMD merchandise. The watercooling will be a little extra, but the cut in noise will worth it. Does anyone know if the new G5's can be OC'd?

i think you should save the thousands of pounds you'll spend on those opterons and wait for the hammers. I'm probably right in thinking you've got a pretty nice pc as it is and don't need to get a new one just yet.

The Opterons are the hammer series of CPU's; the Clawhammer is the desktop series and the Sledgehammer is the SMP Opteron series for servers. The Hammers are here!
I know a handful of engineers that are out of work, a 40 year old woman with a PHD in Psychology and more people with business and technical degrees than I care to count. Ive always believed its not what a peice of paper says you know, its what you do with what you really know.
First, I was joking. 
Second, I don't think persuing a higher education is just about money. Like you said, your son is richer than you. Does that mean he would be better off not knowing how to read or write? Education is about learning more about yourself and the world around you. While going to college isn't a necessity, it makes learning easier, since that is the atmosphere of the place.
as i knew it the 'hammer' meant the desktop chips coming out september time... thats what i meant anyway.
I think that experience is better than having a pretty sheet of paper too, but when you have no idea what to do, a tough degree you enjoy seems like a good option. My scrap of paper should prove i can add up and will open a few doors for sure.

edit: yeah Contra has it, education is more than having that piece of paper. I enjoy my degree, I enjoy university. Even if i could have had a $30000 starting salary i would still go for uni.

So yesterday I ordered a G4 Emac with 640 MB RAM and this week the store will deliver it at my bloody front door! :own:

I hope you didn't buy the RAM from Apple, they charge 500% more than everyone else.
The eMacs use normal SDRAM, which is like $10 for 128MB in stores.
contrasutra, it's a local store, much cheaper than apple's online store and both the emac and the ram were very cheap. They put it in for me, so no "warranty-gone-cause-you-opened-the-cage" stuff I guess. Also this ram was tested and everything, the store is maybe an hours drive away and it's nice folks. What more could one wish ?

I would probably take the mac to bed with me, specially if it was an ibook/powerbook, like a toy robot. Those times when you cannot stop thinking about the new toy you just bought. You wanna take it with you to school or now.. work. Everywhere. just so it wont get stolen in case somebody broke into your apartment. You know its right next to you when your addiction starts stinging you.
For DZ its amd (which would probably going to be my next pc).
