nrzero, why would I give up Panther for free if I am going to purchase it? Or are you referring to the developer one that times out in a few months, cuz I heard it was buggy?

I meant the beta copy that you and Betaguy9000 supposedly have.
Its not a "beta", its a "developers preview". Are you a developer? I think not. They would have released it to the public, like they did w/ Safari/X11 if they wanted everyone to have it.
Agree with contrasutra - it's not meant for the consumer.
If you must get it, then at least ask for it on PM. This is a skinning forum, not an illicit software sharing community. 
Your are an angel aren't you Contrasutra. I am a student developer, paid $99 to get ADC hardware discounts + connections, I asked the Apple store it they could provide me with a copy of Panther, but they said that I had to be at the WWDC to get one. :rant: :rant: So THERE!!! :rant:
You are not a student developer. You're a kid. You hardly constitute the image of developer for a multi million dollar corporation.

Okay Deadzombie. To contrasutra: I am a developer and am going to the Macworld conference in my hometown, the Big Apple, New York City!! That is if it doesn't clash with my Colombia university gifted high-school program. 
Hopefully I'll pick up a copy there, the entrance fee for student-developers in advance is only $15. (BTW I used a fake College ID

Are we going to get into an academics contest now? Im going to be graduating from the International Bacceaulareate Program soon (high in my class by the way). it is an internationally accepted program that few graduate from. It gives me two years of college credit at graduation. Along with that, I will have all the AP (advanced Placement) credits as well.
Im just saying, its not like you're that special. If someone gives you a copy of Panther to play with, fine, no big deal. But you don't have to run around the boards begging for a copy.
Fine, so you live in NYC, and I live in boring old New Jersey. But hey, someone threw a lit cigarette and a bottle of whiskey on me last time i visited. And that was at the MOMA! I can imagine how rude people are in bad parts of town.

Contra you take IB too :woot: :woot: I take the IB at the United Nations International School, I will start it next year (11th grade). I'm taking Higher math, bio, physics, economics, and Spanish A1, and standard A1 English (I'm better at Spanish than English and French), what about you?? Maybe you came to the UNIS-UNconference, I think IB schools are affiliated. 
Whats "Higher Math"? Sounds exiting. This year I took Trig2H, next year is calculous I believe. I took Physics this year, next year Biology. I took Spanish 3H this year, 4h next year. Unfortunatly, ive been taking spanish since I was in 6th Grade (IB junior High School). And I dont know what level of English im in, I know its Honors though.
Im not much for conferences though.
i am a would be mac user, like most people here i think. i have a question: do i spend $2000 on a very nice g5 power mac and have no software to run on it and no nice tft screen; or do i build a fast pc which so i can play doom III, HL 2, DX 2 etc etc and have a $1000 left over.
All logic points to the pc... but i don't know... :cry:

In England we do A levels which are very much like the IB
We have 'Maths A level' where you do trig, basic calculus, logarithms and some other stuff
Then if you are really good at maths you do 'further maths' which sounds abit like your higher maths. In that you have to do things like complex numbers, taylor and maclaurins series and some other stuff.
If you're going to uni and doing maths or physics.... do higher maths.. i didn't and spent the first year trying to catch up with those that did
If you want to do Engineering/ Chemistry/biology - think about it but its not essential
If you want to do anything else i wouldn't bother unless you like pain.
i never understood this:
is college the same as university, or is it what you do inbetween high school (11-16) and university (18-21)
In the U.S., at least, colleges and universities are the same...high school goes until (generally) you're 18, unless you started early or skipped a grade (if you live in California, I've heard, you start kindergarten a year earlier). But yeah...colleges...universities...they're equivalent. Unlike in Britain and other countries, kids in the U.S. generally go straight into college/university after high school without taking a year off.
Heh, you guys are taking IB stuff...aren't those just like AP courses, only usually schools that have them have a whole lot of them? I don't think most people at my high school had the slightest idea what IB was...most public high schools in the Midwest here, like the one I went to, seem to mainly have AP courses, and even then, only a smattering of those courses were actually taught...I took all the AP and honors-level courses I could get back in the day, though .
@fissyb - when do you take A-levels? Are they taken throughout high school, or after you've taken a few years of classes, or what? That's always confused me...and then I heard there were other levels besides just A-levels - what are those for?
well, I took the GCSE (O-levels) in grade 9-10. I finished high school in Canada (umm... not SAT, not A-levelsd ) and am going to University of Toronto :graduate:
I took the GCSEs in Saudi Arabia, by the way..

In England, you take GCSEs at 16, generally you do nine or ten subjects. The next school year you do your AS Levels, you do four or maybe even five of them, and the year after that you do A2 Levels, you typically do three or four of them.
This system came though in the last two years or so. I was one of the very last years who didn't get subjected to this AS/A2 Level stuff. I did GCSEs at 16 (nine of them) then A-Levels at 18 (four of them). The new system has been much maligned, and rumour has it it's not going to last much longer, it all depends if Blair and co stay in next election - which to be honest they probably will, as the opposition is somwhat lacking.

I would love to buy a mac but they ocst so much! In fact I'm having a major internal struggle deciding whether or not to buy an iBook (14" 900MHz one) and if I do whether or not to wait until panther to avoid having to upgrade.
Can anyoneone here tell me what the limits of this machine are? Can I actually play games on it as well as work? Preferably without any hype. I just want info from people that have used them.

the hard truth is that the iBook is not a gaming machine. There, you heard it. However, NO mac is a gaming machine really. I did, however, install UT2003 on my iBook 800 and it runs smooov as silk

Another thing. The iBook is a great portable. I have never seen another laptop pull as many hours from the battery as my iBook (5-6 hours on one battery. If my Dell Latitude crosses 1 hour, its a big deal ).
By the way, I'd recommend you get the 12" version. If you compare the two side by side, you might think the 12" one is too small. But trust me, if you stick with it you'll be happier because of the better portability and the saved $$$
edit: You asked about the limitations of the iBook. Basically you can't use Shake, Maya, Bryce, FCP etc... Well, you can but it will be too goddamn slow. The programs were designed for G4's..
UT2003 runs smooth as silk on your ibook? That thing has an 8MB video card doesnt it? I didn't even think it could run. Im only getting 40FPS on my GeForce4, hardly silk. But then again, im running it at a decent resolution/effects level.

Im building a G5 killer starting in August. Most likely it will be an nForce3 250 platform running dual Opterons, GeForceFX5900 series (or whatever ATI offers to kill it), watercooled for OC'ing and a ton of pc3200 memory. It will be top of the line, and I will do everything possible to make certain it outbenches and outperforms a top of the line G5 at every turn. The FSB might be a problem, so if Opteron isnt going to make the grade it might go (gasp) P4...we will see. Although I have been told that AMD hypertransport is the same FSB that the G5 is using (turns out thats why they joined the AMD/ IBM consortium), and quad memory is supposed to work on the nForce platform so pc6400 + hypertransport should exceeed the G5 FSB.

actually it has 32MB vedeo memory. 
And yes, it runs smooth as silk.
edit: I also have a Geforce4 Ti 4200 on my PC. Both run UT2003 equally well. However, the graphics of the PC is slightly better because of the video card.
DZ: Why? Don't you want to be able to send your zomblits to college?
Taha: Thats odd, my GF4 has 128MB and its hardly silk. What resolution are you playing at?
