Not yet.No, it's (shadow) provided by the system.
if you have time, could you implement a little option to disable and enable the shadow on the search bar?
very useful program. no need to waste room on the taskbar with the gds toolbar.

SearchSpy 1.1 is out!
Change log:
- No more crahes when you enter on stand by, hybernate or something like.
- The searchbox now takes focus when you click the Window
- Added an option to change the tray icon if you want
- Locate was removed. I was causing too many problems to people. Now, SearchSpy will only work if you have Google Desktop.
- Other stuff I don't remeber.
@Chris Kite
NOTE: If you did not experience any problems with the indexing system, you can still install the new version above searchspy 1.0. If you do this, the old index system will be kept. A BETA version will come with all those bugfixes and the old indexing system soon.
Sorry if this has been answered, but I have a problem with the software. The full window works fine, but the blinking line-thing (when typing) doesn't appear in the menu when I click it, so I can't actually search. The window also doesn't move. I have reinstalled 1.0 and installed 1.1 and neither of these worked. Could there be an incompatibility problem with another program?
Wow! I was totally ignored. :slant:

Please, provide information about your hardware, the software you were running and your OS and I'll see what I can do.
chermany4ever] Hi SpyGamer, how are you? I have a couple of questions/doubts/suggestions.When I search and go to the SearchSpy window, there you can sort files by list and details. It is possible to make SearchSpy remember this preference? If not, the user is always forced to change the sort config everytime.
Another thing. Right in this same window, we can see the date and hour of the creation of the file we are looking for.
I think that it would be greater having there more other options to know about this files, like the file's size.
I know... we can see the entire properties pushing the " i " button, but... it would amazing just to change from 'date' to 'size' for example... (SearchSpy would be remembering this setting), and then we could search and find, and see all the information we want from any file without touching the keyboard!
I think that we are always most interested in the files size or the folder they're in, instead of the date and hour. Or maybe it's just me?
I think that this few details could make of SearchSpy the most complete tool for searching files and even navigating.
Congratulations for such amazing program, and thank you for improving it.
All you suggested are nice ideas for future releases (Yeah people, It's not stoped
). Right now I can't work on them cause they need time. And time is something I don't have now and probabily won't have in the next moths. School is taking most of it.
I'm going to keep focus on small requests and bug fixes while I'm busy.
I compared SearchSpy with i-Find. Both apps have their own advantages and disadvantages. For SearchSpy, I recognized strange result numbers - it shows me "5 results", but in the list there's only 1, and it seems it does not find as much as Google Desktop Search (although it uses it...). But SearchSpy is quick and the search window is redrawn and filled with results in a good speed. In contrast, i-Find finds everything Google finds itself and it also shows previews and icons, but it's search window is redrawn very slowly... So... SpyGamer, make a SearchSpy with the additional features of i-Find (and make it to find everything!) and the speed of SeachSpy and I'll consider to use your prog... Until then, I stay with i-Find.
Greetings, Mario
Glad you like it, but there are somethings you should notice:
1. The count is wrong because GDS gives it wrong. It's not my fault. I-find only shows the right number because it searches for everything. When I request a file search, the problem happens.
2. SearchSpy looks for files only, because it's makes possible a feature nobody ever did: Ability to customize search grous, add or remove them. I-find can't do that ![]()
The previews you suggested are a nice idea I'm going to work in when I have time. Till there, have a look at this.
Thanks for your answer. :-)
I'm not sure if I fully understand you. Does it mean that with SearchSpy I just can look for files? E.g. searching for the term "readme" would bring up a file "readme.txt", but files or mails with a text like "please have a look into the readme" would not appear?
If so, that was too bad, because in my opinion the advantage of these "modern" desktop searches is the ability to search without thinking about filenames etc.
Thank you for the link, that looks interesting.
Greetings,
Mario
Wrong ![]()
SearchSpy searches INSIDE files too. Let's supose you have a file called yada.txt with "readme" inside it. If you search for readme, the file will be found to.
What searchspy DOES NOT do is look for things that are not files. Some samples: IM Chats, Web history, outlook mail, GMail etc... This was done cause This stuff is given by GDS to the app in a different way. Suport it is possible, but takes time and lines of code ![]()
Well, it's not stopped. That sounds great. Don't forget my ideas.
SpyGamer,
Sometime back, somebody was asking about taking advantage of the native indexing in Windows,
which is available from Win2k. Well, Windows Desktop Search does exactly that. Because of that WDS's
results are up-to-date more quickly than GDS. Ok, there is a sdk similar to GDS available for WDS as
well. I origianlly planned to develop a Spotlight clone based on WDS sdk, but had no time left between
my coursework and lab work. Anyhow, one of the developers on the WDS team released a C++
sample code using the sdk, here.
If you are using .NET then there is a sample code using C# and .NET, somewhere. I can't remember
right now, but I can look it up for you.
Get uptadet faster? lol Not when I tryed Windows Desktop ![]()
Google Desktop is the only tool that does not keep reindexing the whole hdd many times. An the one with the best speed on tests.
hmm .. I thought I read somewhere that WDS reflects changes more quickly because of tighter integration with the OS. But, agreed, thats somewhat of an old news, things might have changed since then .. And reindexing all the time, well, I agree with you, WDS just cannot stop .. though I don't know how well GDS does on that front.
Anyhow, I guess thats somewhat besides the point. Well, if you are interested in integrating WDS into SearchSpy and need some help, let me know. I'll be glad to.

The results are not wrong, problem is Searchspy shows number of GDS results, but not does not show what GDS can show. You search "apple" GDS finds 10 files + 10 mails=20 but searchspy results page only shows 10 files.
This is the source of the problem, I guess this should not happen in 1.0 of Searchspy.
CLick "files" in GDS web page and you will see that counters for a file-only search are wrong ![]()
SpyGamer,
I have checked that, and I saw the difference come from displaying .txt results, SearchSpy does not show .txt results.
And May be others...
FYI
It DOES! At least it was coded to. TXT files are suported
Please check two screenshots attached, I know you have added "txt" extension in preferences>documents options. But it does not bring results.
Does the file exist? SearchSpy won't return cached results.
Yes they exist. It is not a reading from google cache, the files are physically there. Have you tried text files in your system ?
Hi guys, this is my first post and so I far the only problem that bothers me is that searchspy doesn't return email results particularly lotus notes mail. Is there a way you could make this work like this, I have referred this app to my friends but they also are unconvinced yet becasue it doesn't return lotus notes results.
I normally search emails from GDS using this querry "from:john" for example and this would return all emails sent by a name starting with john.
wow !!!.....The most important thing is....ITS FUNCTIONAL!...most clones ive used so far were just that clones....but coudnt use em everyday....THIS JUST WORKS OUT OF THE BOX...i dont have gds...dont intend to use it...i like the indexing of this app....gr8.
only thing,a very small bug.....WHEN USED WITH -noicon parameter,it opens on the top left corner of the screen for a split second, and then shifts to the given position.
ucan see the search bar on the top left corner for like a short time, then it goes bakc to the top right(where i want it)....if that can be fixed....
(p4 2.8,matrox grafix card dual head,512 ddr mem)
BTW,bro the whole point u made the app to look like spotlight is emulation right?....its really very kiddish to not let us change the text to "SPOTLIGHT",
look were not discrediting u or anything....ure app still gets the due credit....but just this small thing gives away that is not a mac....and its IMPORTANT for the emulation community...so please allow us the change the caption.
(nobody wants to take away ure credit....we all love the app,and we all are honoured that u worked so much on it,without getting anything back)
its like what if i create a tiger theme and stick my name on the title bar....look at chris, hes done such a gr8 project, but u dont find his name stuck anywhere in the mods,STILL PPL LOVE HIM FOR WHAT HES DONE !!!!
just a suggesti though, dont get me wrong....its still ure app...

Whoa! You convinced me
I have some plans for a 1.15 release with small new features. But time is agains, as usual ![]()
here is my problem. i dont have google desktop search, but i installed 1.0 anyway.
i open the program
i type my search in either the menu program or the other one
the program appears to search for something
it returns a message that it has found 1 result (even for something incredibly simple like "a")
and it doesnt display any results
whats wrong!!?!
