[development] FlyakiteOSX v3.0

I've been watching this forum and am excited for the new release. I do have one question/concern that I am hoping to get some insight on though. I stumbled onto v.2 quite a while ago and I loved what it did for my system. I had loaded it onto my laptop and something happened about a month later that caused me to have to try and use a restore point. I tried several different times and tried several different dates (restore points) each time with the same result. It would act like it was restoring to that point and then when it rebooted it would say that it had failed to restore. In the end I reformatted the HD and I experimented by loading v.2 right after I loaded windows xp home. Then I loaded a couple programs and tried to restore - just to see what it would do - and got the same results.

Sorry for the long post but does anyone have any insight on this - what might have caused it - similar findings - etc. I love the product but not the idea that I can't "restore to an earlier time" if needs be. BTW it did uninstall fine but still no successful restores after uninstall. Thanks much for the help.

well what caused you to have to restore in the first place? my windows xp says restore fails just for the hell of it.... but yeah tell us what was happening that made you want to restore.

My WinXP will "fail to restore" if there haven't been any changes that it can undo, which seems to happen a lot, actually, with or without flyakiteosx.

Not suprising. It was actually a problem with the mouse set up - the scollbars on the side weren't working and reinstalling drivers, etc. did nothing.

damn looks like windows has done it again .... thats REALLY odd, I don't remember stuff like that happending to me when I installed it.... is windows updated to the max? if not I suggest you update windows alot

Well, I can wait. Like mostly everybody else said, FlyakiteOSX v.2 is great. I'm just curious about the new goodies.

Don't rush. I'd rather have a well made piece of software than a buggy one.

Regarding the skins section, MSN Messenger for example. You can detect the user's current installed version and download the matching version of the skin using NSISDL. I reckon that'd be a more practical way... Let me know in case I can provide any assistance... and thanks for the effort you're putting into this

Love BETA3 and the new stuff. (I'm not sure whether i'm allowed to say the changelog, so i'm not).

However, (i don't have Google Desk Search yet), from your screens, the searchspy "Magnifyer" logo is an icon the the taskbar. Is it possible to put it to the right side of the dock (change the skin, on request to the skinner, who is KoL if i'm not wrong) ? Though...it would be pretty useless for those without GSD...but it still looks more Tiger that way.

Just another thing i noticed ba..you (flyakite) always seems to be doing this project whenever you're online...and on the forums..just commendable.

I'm using the soulless fonts for quite some time now and in my opinion, they're pretty close to what you're seeing on a mac. Take a look:

Fonts are one of the things that totally stick out on a WinXP desktop - the soulless or mac fonts are just so much easier to read.

Can you send me the fonts? It depends on how much hassle it is to include and what it takes to use. If its just a simple matter of putting the font in the Fonts folder, thats not a problem. If it is more than that, that is a problem.

Hmm, the problem is that you need Adobe Type Manager to apply these fonts, since they're no ttfs, but pfms. So in the Type Manager, I'm deactivating the ttfs and activate the corresponding pfms, as easy as that. But it'd be great if that thing would be automated within the flyakite package.

I can send the .zip with all the fonts and Adobe Type Manager to you, if you give me your mail.

See, now therein lies the problem, it requires something special to work. I have ATM, so that's not a problem. However since these fonts require ATM to work, then obviously there is no way I am going to include this with FlyakiteOSX, as very few people have it, and I cannot redistribute ATM. I like to include things that can be auto-applied. I don't know if there is any way the installer can tell ATM to set the fonts, or if it has to be done manually.

Plus what other problems does this present? I know certain applications can only read open type or true type fonts, etc.

in fact.. if your Type 1 fonts (which require Adobe Type Manager) can be installed without ATM, if they come with .ini file. If you have the font with .ini file, then you can simple drag and drop .ini in Windows/Fonts folder and the font will get installed. I found this much easier than using ATM, it came handy when I lost my ATM CD.
