@ Sebbo: That's strange. I have a german Windows XP version and the Logon was in german, too.
@ flyakite: I really love your pack and I hope/belive that the new version will be even better. It's good to see that you don't forget your real life, because THIS is more important than coding a transformation pack for some Windows-Nerds who want to have a Mac ![]()
Before I forget: I am a Windows-Nerd, too. Worse luck! ![]()
@pixel x: wow, it's nice that you're sensitive to the feelings of others...wanna buy some nekkid pics of your mom?
relax...it's a joke!
@shmengie: No not really lol
- And I edited the post ...
Ok people please stop littering the thread with thank you/off-topic posts. It doesn't bring anything new to the matter. Wait silently for flyakite to give you some news.
I've just been told by flyakite that the projected release date is December 23rd, 2012. This should leave plenty of time for an excellent newspost.
By the way, when you have no idea what someone is talking about, you typically Google it, eh? ![]()

OK.
Just updated to XP SP2 and so far so good. I cant seem to find the search though(maybe Im just blind)
I must say that the winroll thing is awesome!!! I never imagined it would come in this handy.
Ok guys, now seriously.
We really need to encourage our developers and assist them in any way we can instead of having these kinds of discussions and useless posts.
I agree that some off topic chatter can lighten things up but that's what we have GD for. Now either post things related to this topic or PLEASE shut up or risk being banned.
Also bugging Chris about the release date = Unbe on your ass and you all know that is NOT a walk in the park.
Cheers!

Hi, I have a question. I might be a bit naive on this, but what is the program or process in Macs that causes a drive to be put on the desktop when it is recognized? For example, when you put a DVD in or something like that, it shows up on the desktop as an icon that you can click on to open it and it disappears when you stop using it. Does flyakiteOSX have this function built in? Windows is really annoying for me because for some reason it will no longer automatically open my USB Memory Stick when I put it in the drive. I have to go to My Computer and find it in there. I'd rather just have it show up on the desktop. I'm just curious if this is in flyakiteOSX v2 and if it's not, will it be added for v3? I still have not even tried v2, but I'm definitely curious.
Stick your USB key in the drive, and open up My Computer. Right click the USB drive, go to Properties, and go to the AutoPlay tab. Change it to "Open Folder to View Files."
About putting it on the desktop, there's no way to do that within Windows itself. You'll have to use a mounting program. The only thing flyakite would be able to do is include such a mounting program in the pack.

crawler, that's the problem. I'm naive to Mac, but certainly not to Windows. I've tried fixing the autoplay function over and over and it still ignores it. By the way, could I do a Google search and find one of these mounting programs? Thanks.
redfirebird2008, please don't double post. Edit your original post instead. Double posting is against forum rules
.
Hmm, that's curious about the Autoplay function. I'll look into it tomorrow.
Automount Programs:
AveDesk (search here) with AutoMounter desklet (also search here)
DeskMount (Google--third result down or so).

, thanx!
Hey Chris that is looking amazing. This is my first post but i have been cruizing these forums waiting till the word got out about version 3. I have been using Flyakite for a year now and i still havnt found it boring unlike the PC interface. I am just wondering if you have a target week for the realease yet? I know you said around mid January or possibly beggining of January, im just wondering if you have a certain week? Thanks love your stuff
Rab
I just read this and got caught up on what Fly a Kite is and what it's about and I must say that I'm impressed! I have 2's setup kicking around on my comp right now but I'll wait until January to install anything as 3 will be out then.
great job, i really hate the old annoying search bar minize it is a great idea
btw can we look how much system resource is it using ?
Is it still planned for today, or very soon?
Also, did you change the scroll bars in windows explprer to have that wavy look? It looks like it, unless it is only the AIM skin.

Well, you have to realize the skins are NOT made by me. The ms style skin is made by KoL, and he decides how he wants the skin to look. So no, it does not have the way look, but the AIM skin does (since the skin for Trillian is seperate, and not controlled by the Windows skin).
As for the release date, no, it is not today or tomorrow. I am flying out to Virginia, US to visit my girlfriend on January 4th, and will be back the 11th. Release should be shortly after. All I really have left to do is the Welcome to FlyakiteOSX guide, the sounds, and testing.
Awesome screenshots. Great pack.
Ok, 1st things 1st:1st Thing...
I know i'm probably too late now but i think that the spotline clone you are using isn't very good. I'm currently using MacSearch (Found on Osx-e.com) which is the best one out so far (In my opinion). Although it does not display icons or have a "Show All" Feature its extremely fast and does not require Google Desktop Search. It uses a indexing program which creates a image of all your files (Only takes about a minute) and thats it. You can set it to auto update the image file too. It only takes about 4.8KB of ram and can be used without a taskbar icon (Uses the magnifing glass in the taskbar as a hotspot). If there's any way you could expand on it to add a show all feature and display icons and it will be Exactly like the one in tiger.
Many people are asking about it, so I'm gonna answer it for everybody at once.
Note that mac search uses an app too. The only thing is that this app is not Google Desktop Search. I know some people don't like Google Desktop, but in fact it searches much better!
Google Desktop Searches for any text in any file. The indexing app MacSearch uses only index file names. That's why it's way faster! It looks for the search term only on the file name!
I don't want it for my app. I don't want something eye candy with a bad search. That's why I'm using Google Desktop. It's far from the best engine and the one that gives you more relevant results. Also, if You don't like it, you can simply install GDS 1.0. This version uses much less resources and works with searchspy too.
Also, some people asked for a hotspot feature and use of memory. SearchSpy has a special switch created to help ObjectBar users (-noicon). When You use this switch, the app Will close itself after a search. It means that:
1st. I can simply create a small hotspot app after for the ones who want and release it as an add-on.
2nd. People who don't want memory to be used can create a shortcut. then SearchSpy will run only when you click on it, using no memory when you're no searching.
that's it.I've just installed MacSearch and noticed it can't give as good results as GDS and mine ![]()
Edit: It didn't even gave results when I searched for iTunes (and there's a shortcut on my desktop) and my name!![]()
Wow, the screenshots look very, very great. Good work!
I've got a small question about Flyakite OSX 3: Will there be again a "special edition" with smaller icons for people with low RAM?

The special edition has smaller icons ONLY for shell32.dll. However, to answer your question, yes, although it has been integrated into the normal installer. The installer will automatically decide if it needs to use the smaller icons, or, for those of you who don't care about the larger icons you can force the installer to use the smaller ones by using the switch /48x48.
