It's not much to write home about, but I got a 4G 20GB iPod today for £50. Yeah, I know, 4G, but it's my first proper piece of Apple hardware, and I treasure it like my first-born.

Thanks guys, nice to finally be part of the 'popular crowd' with their 'cool' iPods. I think it's too late to worry about scratches - it's about a year and a half old, and my friend was only getting rid of it so he could get a fancy new Nano. Needless to say it's already got its fare share of scratches on the back - but it's still perfectly usable

I must admit, though, my first few days with my iPod have been rocky. It took nearly 2 hours to shift 17GB of music across, which is understandable but still painfully boring. And just now the firmware had a meltdown; I plugged the firewire cable in, the screen flickered black and shut down. It wouldn't go beyond the Apple logo for about 3 hours, until I broke out the original iTunes install disk (2004!), which somehow seemed to kick it into Disk Mode, and all was saved. It was a hectic few hours, and I now have to transfer all my music again, but it's better than being left with what would basically be a brick

simon, forget about the back, you dont always look at that...my 5G has massive dings on the front, it sometimes looks like there are dead pixels on the screen due to scattering

the back however, is completely new & scratchless...because i have a case..

I think it's too late to worry about a case; I'm more worried about the battery, which gets worryingly hot

can't help you with a 4G one, i spilled sprite on mine

however i know that 5G's are supposed to get hot when you use it excessively.

i think its the hard drive that creates the heat, not the battery, if you update the ipod or keep it writing for a long time [eg defragmenting or re-uploading your whole library] it gets hot.

Heya! Got my MacBook at last! Nice machine.... the only thing I don't like so far is screen - has very small viewing angles. But the rest is great.

I got the smallest one - 1.83Ghz - but it's hot like hell and doesen't seem to enable coolers - I wonder - if it even has one ))

And no AppleCare - they don't have it here in Russia. They don't even have an office here - only 'exclusive dealer' who is said to be very uncompetent when it comes to service. well, hope it won't come to bringing my macbook to service after all
