For those not having problems with it... great app! Love it, especially how I don't have to watch my computer start up. It would be nice if you could do this as a real bootscreen, but I don't think it is technically feasible :( . Well, anyway, great app!

Delete the registry works ! I think the runtime error 76 occures when you haven't selected a boot-wallpaper (not sure at all !)

And you app is very nice :)

Hes right I just moved my background and when I went to run the config I got the error and had to replace the wallpaper then change the location of the wallpaper.

If you have already set a wallpaper and it has moved you will either need to restore it or delete the registry key.

AMERICANCBASS!!!!

Here are the instructions to get your computer back

1. Boot up the computer, when you see windows explorer and everything has been loaded, access the config utility (VOSSETUP.EXE)

2. Under the config, turn the service off

3. Reboot, you should boot to your desktop with no problem

IF THIS DOESN'T WORK PLEASE CONTACT ME BY IM OR POST HERE, I WILL NEED YOU TO PROVIDE ME WITH TECHNICAL INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR COMPUTER. I APOLOGIZE TO THOSE THAT ARE HAVING TROUBLE, THE ABILITY TO ADD A SPLASH SCREEN TO WINDOWS IS A NEW CONCEPT AND IT STILL HAS TO BE PERFECTED.

yes I already have a copy of it and use it. Just would like to offer hosting at my site for this too. Some people were having problems getting a copy earlier. ;)

Just a quick post ... MrFooWon just helped set me up with his bootloader, and I just want to say publicly that he's a cool guy. Thanks for your hard work and for just being helpful! Keep it up!

Ya'll be nice to this dude!

Peace.

As an end-user without any programming skills, I have no concept of the technical challenge of creating this program. It seems MrFooWon whipped this up with no sweat. I want to be like Mike? Mike who?! I want to be like this guy! My hat is off to you, sir. Many thanks and I hope you continue to produce such fine programs as this one.

Btw, I've read that it can't be done on a PC, but have you ever considered taking on the Genie-effect for PC challenge?

#149512

I agree with ajblackx. Great program! Couldn't think of any way to make it better

(while, actually, I have one idea- I don't know if it is possible, but only make the app finish once a certain process is done starting up. My boot time varies, but typically, Y'Z Dock is always the last thing to finish. So, if you could make the program only end once yzdock.exe is fully loaded, that would be great. Right now, occasionally, this app is done, but not everything is fully loaded, so I still have to wait a little bit).

Anyway, that's not really crucial. I love it! :D

wow, i missed this thread ;) , (i already new about VOSBL (people are using my acronym ^_^ ) because i put it up at osx-e) anyway i love this app so much :D^_^

#149556

I decided to brave another install after nearly botching my system from VOSBL, but with changed to the procedure. Here's what I did:

1) Make sure your Aqua-lookalike account has Administrator privileges

2) Run the install

3) If any messages tell you that a file being copied is older than one currently on your system, click YES to keep your curent file.

4) If you get a message saying that msvcrt.dll is in use, click Ignore to ignore it

5) When the install finishes, run Virtual OS Book Loader.

6) Turn on the service, and close the window. Don't press any of the other buttons.

7) Restart your computer.

It should all have gone well, and you should see the initial setup screen once you log in.

I love this program now that it works. I hope people who had similar troubles try this program again using these guidelines.

I fixed everything myself already, but thanks for the help. i was just wondering if there are any compatibillity problems with this program. i already tried this program 2 times and always have the same problem of nothing showing up when i boot except for a Windows Explorer window. I tried all of the suggestions posted in the forum, none work. I hear from a lot of people that this is a very nice program, and I would like to enjoy it too.

About the dock loading, I am currently testing a build that loads objectbar and your dock (whichever one you use) for you, instead of it being loaded after explorer. When explorer loads these programs, it tends to vary when they load, this is how explorer is. Eventually I am trying to move this boot loader into a full featured startup manager, giving you easy access to shell switching at startup, and optimized loading of your startup programs.

I will finish testing this build and soon it will be available at StyleSuites.com

WONDERFULL APP MATE :woot:

very happy with it... just a small req... support for winplosion, kaspersky or any splash screen in the boot kinda shows like a translucent pop up... very annoying :(

thanks and keep up the great work

btw... object bar / dock work perfect with it

#150403

I'm here and on MSN most evenings (UK time, that is) So speak to me then, and we can sort out updating builds and stuff :)

#150404

hmm, does this program effect all the accounts on a computer, or only a single one?

#150530

All accounts.

And I must agree with the one who said this earlier. I have also spoken to Tom and I must say he's very kind and doesn't put himself first, he put's the members of this community before his own priorities. Why do I say that you ask? Well I remember when I was speaking to Tom before the first release. And he asked me a couple of questions about the Mac Panther boot up prosess and I answered them. As I answered his questions (which were only like 5) he incorperated the features into the amp. Yep you read right. I was talking to Tom while he was SCRIPTING ( os coding, however you say it) the original release of this amazing enchaned splash screen/boot loader/ ugly Windows delayer. Tom is a very nice person and everything he said would be included is. I feel really bad for how I reacted during the DeskDisk situation. No matter how many times you say it's okay I will still feel bad.

Stay true Tom.

Jesus Franco

First of all something along those lines dont help developers the error message tells them whats wrong its need to be exact...

as a fix though try deleting the values in the registry, VOSBL is located under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\KUNG FU\BOOTLOAD\

You could also try editing them yourself by putting the delay to around 1000 and entering the path of the image yourself then run the config again.

I have monitored all of the forums regarding this program and I am currently working on fixing all of the errors. I want to thank everyone for trying it out and giving me their feedback, it really helps me to zero in on coding errors. I have been enhancing the program greatly, the config dialog has been completely reworked. I am adding some code that will help to enhance and possibly speed up the boot up process. Through my research I have found that objectbar and objectdock take longer to load than other programs. The "trick" I have been working with is to have the boot loader expedite the loading of these apps on startup. Windows XP doesn't analyze the desktop bootup process, which is why so many Windows users are haunted with a long load. After I ran tunexp on my computer, the startup time was literally divided in half. This amazed me so I figured I would try to do something the same for your desktop bootup. Even users that don't do desktop modding still have to wait a long time for boot (due to all the progs that load in the system tray). I also am designing the program to put the user in control of the startup. So many programs that we install on our computers have a tendancy to add icons to the system tray, which slowly drains your resources. I am putting together a section that will bring your entire startup into perspective, no more looking at the registry to see entries like sysmdg.exe or yidxlgr.exe. Instead the program will analyze each startup program to extract it's description to help the user determine if he wants it to load or not. The new program should be available from osx-e.com when it is back up and running.
