IF ANYONE HAS IDEAS PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
I've been chatting with a lot of people today and I found out that the splash I released is not a panther splash. I acquired an image of the real one, but I need tips on how it behaves. If anyone knows please post at this thread:
It's a nice app, but I'm having a problem. It runs, and then once it's done, it shows my desktop. Only problem is that the taskbar is gone (visually, but if I press the Windows <_< key, then the start menu shows. Also, if I run a program like Hide Taskbar.exe made by beric, then it reappears). Any suggestions? Aside from placing a program like Hide Taskbar.exe in the startup folder.
Thanks,

Told you guys this was a great app ![]()
Its great seeing it in action, I especially like the way the progress bar jumps
Tom if you want to see the 10.3 loading screen take a look at this video.

Hope it helps, maybe a little config to add the text above the bar and change the skin would be a great addition to this app.
oh man, this is pretty cool. i /neeeed/ (read: want) some configuration options, though. perhaps i just didn't try the obvious fix for changing the graphics, ResHacking. it'd be nice to be able to skin it, though.
Thanks,
Felix
that seems very similar to the actual panther logon image itself, so here that is incase you can use it for a resource

It is thats why... its identical if you go to the route youll see more http://www.concept04.com/macboot/
The login displays just like the Windows clone only when you select a user the internal frame shrinks down to a single user space (seen here - http://www.concept04.com/macboot/Login%20S...Close%20Up.JPG) and when the password is entered it switched to the progress bar as seen in my previous post.
If you could make a 1:1 panther login that matched the boot loader position so that it connects seemlessly like in panther that would be one cool effect.

indeed, it would be a very smooth transition, and be most appriciated by all.
I see how it starts up now, the video was a great help. I just wasn't able to read some of the text so whoever has access to it, could you start up your mac and just write down everything it says. I am going to make the new program mimic it exactly

i knew it existed....thanks.
MrFooWan, maybe you could help (you did make this, right?)- once your program is done running, my computer shows the desktop. However, the taskbar is missing (meaning I can't see it, but if I press the Windows <_< key, then the start menu shows. Also, if I run a program like Hide Taskbar.exe made by beric, then it reappears. Any ideas?

the program is coded with strong ammounts of code to suppress the taskbar, this had to be done in order to get the effect. If you still use the windows taskbar, my next release will have an option where it will re-enable the taskbar upon complete loading.
AND IF ANYONE HAS A MAC, PLEASE IM ME OR POST HERE, I NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE SPLASH SCREEN'S SCROLLING TEXT IS SAYING WHILE IT IS BOOTING UP. I HAVE A MAKESHIFT VIDEO OF IT BUT I CAN'T MAKE OUT WHAT THE TEXT IS ACTUALLY SAYING
Geez im always late to everything,
First lemme say thanx Tom for a great app!, and second, i have a suggestion not a complaint, u might can add a feature to add text like some ppl said, maybe have it either read all apps in the test run, but that wouldnt seem too accurate cause wat ppl have startup would eventually change soon, in that case have an option to check wats being loaded, and maybe an option to set how many boots would it check,
ex: check every [3] boots
and then as an alternate you can have an option to just display ur own text, an example in the settings file could be:
-----------------------------------------
Custom text:
Label="Loading..."
TextDelay=500' msec
Label="Loading StartMenu..."
TextDelay=400' msec
Label="Starting OSX..."
TextDelay=250' msec
-----------------------------------------
this would take some trial and error on the end users part to get it to where it shows the desktop after its all done loading, but if the user knows the total seconds it takes for the desktop to load, it shouldnt be too hard. Theyd just had to make it where all the labels, when all the textedelays are added together, would equal the total loading time.
Theres most likely a better and easier way to do this but this is just one method it could be implemented.
Hope any of that made sense ![]()
on the money, that's exactly what I want to do, I have the methods and the new splash already set up. I am just waiting for someone to give me an exact list of what it says on a mac. I have been browsing the net about it but unfortunately it's just too broad of a topic. The easiest thing, if someone has a mac, get a pen and paper and reboot it a couple of times. Write everything down and I will use that along with the video I have to create the perfect startup. I also have added more code to make the progress bar seem more real, meaning the progress bar should reach it's end very close to when the desktop appears

Excellent... simply great.
Keep up the great work, Tom. ![]()
Hi guys,
Regret to inform you all that osx-e.com has exceed its bandwidth limit of 35Gb per month. Its earlier than I expected, but with an average of 2.5Gb bandwidth usage daily, definitely its won't last any longer.
BTW, the good news is, we will be moving to new server nex month, and we can assure you that all the problem related to the bandwidth limit will be solve. I got a new deal with a new hosting provider that will give me 1.5GB of space and unmetered bandwidth. This means I can host more files and download section will open to all visitors without any registration required
Meanwhile, I just got the site back up, with just 4Gb bandwidth left till the end of this month. So I might disable a lots of file in download section, till we move to the new server.
And thanks for those who mirroring the files for Tom, he is really great developer and need more appreciation from this community.
At last we can have fun back at the forums on OSX-E.
i'm having problems installing this app
i clicked on setup it told me that sys files were out of date
then i just updated it with the files given and restarted but i get errors when i try to run the program

Oh good, i thought i wasnt making sense and wrote all that for nuthin
and to think i dont know a scrap of code, i just know flowcharting and psuedo code but no actual language, by the way, wat are u programming this in? i want to learn a code but i want to choose the best one, C# seemed easy as wat all ppl say, but its major drawback is that the end user has to have the .net framework, i was leaning towards c++, but if u, or anyone else know a nice, easy, high end language to learn? my apps will all be used for windows, im open to suggestions, if someone is willing to teach or send me in the right direction as soon as i learn ill be making all the aqua related apps i can,
ok getting off subject, sa for the App, i have a machine in the house running OS9, if that is of any help at all let me know. (not mines so please no "y dont u upgrade to Panther questions")
Same problem as idicula ... and I guess it's not my modded sysfiles. I'm running flyakite's 5.1 package, complete with most current windows updates. Any ideas?
Okay, I closed all programs, installed this puppy, followed the "Manual" text file directions, and restarted my computer. Now, after I log in, all I see is the wallpaper, an Explorer window and nothing else (no taskbar, desktop icons, etc.).
Apparently, the internet connection works since I'm here online typing throughout this mess.
The only way I could get in Internet Explorer was using the Explorer window that popped up. If I close the Explorer window, I'm in deep sh*t!
I've tried logging as other users but the same thing happens (only their wallpaper & an Explorer window shows up).
When I click on the "VOSSetup" file in the "Boot Loader" folder, I get an error pop-up window saying:
Run-time error '76'
Path not found: ' '
What in the world is going on & can somebody please help me?
Thanks a lot,
Nando
Okay, can I say "THANK GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD & Microsoft for "System Restore." Sorry Boot Loader inventor, but that mother-effing app had messed up my computer real badly.
By doing System Restore, I lost a recent addition of a user account...but it was no biggie.
Advice to all people: DO YOURSELF A HUGE-ASS FAVOR AND CREATE A "CHECKPOINT" IN YOUR SYSTEM RESTORE RIGHT NOW JUST IN CASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again, sorry inventor dude, but your app scared the STANK out of me!

I had major problems with this program. Here's what Aqua related-apps I run on my system:
ObjectBar
ObjectDock
WindowBlinds
WindowFX
LogonStudio
BootSkin
AveDesk
When I tried to install VOSBL, I got an error saying msvcrt.dll was in use, and couldn't replace it. SO I tried in safe mode, and got the same error. I tried continuing anyway, and I guess that choice was a bad one. On restart, after the bootscreen, I just had a black screen. I uninstalled the program in safe mode again, which caused me to successfully boot into the login screen. But on logging in, the system just stalled for a while, then showed my wallpaper and nothing else. I could CTRL+ALT+DEL and see the task manager, and run programs that way, but my botched install screwed things up. So luckilly I performed a System Restore to a previous checkpoint and all is well again.
Just a heads up for you all; don't continue the install if you can't replace all the files. Try in safe mode if you must.
Anyone with the same software on their system that installed VOBL successfully?

Dude, you STOLE my story ![]()
I'm glad all's well again for us unluckies.
