well, when i installed it, i opted not to replace the new files on my system with old ones. os i ignored every file with that. and i had 2 maybe 3 insances were it tried to replace something open. so i ignored thoughs.

and it works fine for me. maybe that might help u guys.

Nooo WAY! I'm really not going to install that again! No siree Grim. I've been scared straight in installing apps...though I can't wait for the next NeXplorer!...that's gonna be DA BOMB!

It was good advice, wasn't it?

I had major problems with this program.  Here's what Aqua related-apps I run on my system:

ObjectBar

ObjectDock

WindowBlinds

WindowFX

LogonStudio

BootSkin

AveDesk

When I tried to install VOSBL, I got an error saying msvcrt.dll was in use, and couldn't replace it.  SO I tried in safe mode, and got the same error.  I tried continuing anyway, and I guess that choice was a bad one.  On restart, after the bootscreen, I just had a black screen.  I uninstalled the program in safe mode again, which caused me to successfully boot into the login screen. But on logging in, the system just stalled for a while, then showed my wallpaper and nothing else.  I could CTRL+ALT+DEL and see the task manager, and run programs that way, but my botched install screwed things up.  So luckilly I performed a System Restore to a previous checkpoint and all is well again.

Just a heads up for you all; don't continue the install if you can't replace all the files.  Try in safe mode if you must.

Anyone with the same software on their system that installed VOBL successfully?

I run all of those with the exception of AveDesk and I also ran into the same msvcrt.dll problem. I had shut down every app, so I tried shutting down every non-essential service, but to no avail. I ghosted my C partition just in case, then chose to ignore it. It completed the install and has run without any problems.

I only run ObjectBar, WB and BootSkin of the listed programs, and i also git that message, after shutting down a lot of stuff, i still got that, so i ignored the warning and the installation continued and it works fine for me.

Ok, so I installed this thing, had the same problem with one file not getting replaced, but I found the Stardock program that does the same thing was getting in the way, so I uninstalled. Now though windows boots to a blank white desktop, and task manager shows that explorer isn't even running, so object bar doesn't get any systray info.

Anyone have any ideas? I restored to the previous days restore point, but it makes no difference, still the same.

Cheers!

Its strange how this program reacts I have difficulty sometimes getting all my systray icons in Objectbar but Im sitting here and it booted fine this time. It also somtimes confuses Samurize and it loads only half my config. I also have problems with not loading 'Always on top' but these dont always happen

#148678

Hi,

I have installed VOBL. It works fine, not problem with dll replaced during installation. But some programs (Microsoft Word 2003) launches minimized. Fortunately I have seen all tasks in Objectbar theme and I right click Word and I chose "Maximize" from the menu. Is anybody that can reach same problem. Is a way to fix it?

Tkx.

Okay a few things,

1. WHY have you people not learned that restore points are your friends? you should always create one before you do something that has the potential to screw up your system.

2. Don't yell at the creator if things dont go right. We are all doing this for FREE and for fun.

3. See No's 1 and 2

Lucky for me, I don't have any of these problems. The program works great. It is really nice not to have to watch things loading up. Thanks a lot Tom!

Well, I'm not yelling at the author, and i did have a restore point to go back to. My point was to query the fact that there appeared to be a conflict between Stardocks MCP and this app, and the Stardock loader still came up during desktop loading, and this app wasn't allowed up until stardock had finished.

Doe sanyone have a way to counter it? I seem to have my system working ok now, but I liked the idea of this app, just stardock seems to be stoping it working as intended.

Cheers!

I have another splash screen that is ready for releasing. This one was designed from a REAL PANTHER computer. It mimics every part of it, also I have added the ability to not hide the Windows taskbar (for computers that this has been conflicting with)

The installation is exactly the same for the first version. Unfortunately, this version will replace the old splash screen, don't worry, I am currently working on one that will enable users to design themes. Other than that, my main goal was to provide users with an authentic Panther splash, so here it is

Since osx-e cannot host it right now, I need someone to host it for me temporarily, just until osx-e gets back online.

Other than that, if you just want the prog, send me an im

Excellent work tom, osx-e is back up, we purchaced some bandwidth to ensure the site stays online, but the price is that we had to disable downloads until our switchover at the end of the month.

I made it a news article on the front page there, so hopefully will explain anything that needs to be explained..

about getting the new build to the public, my hope is that simon comes on soon and you can give it to him, so as the public may have a chance to enjoy the updated version of your cool application.

#148818

The new panther splash is minutes from release, waiting on a buddy to set up the temporary page on his server.

When I get the link, I will post it on this forum:

#148831

so do we uninstall the fisrt splash, or just install ontop of it?

#148834

I'm here now. Briefly read all the new posts - what exactly do you need me to do? Update the program on StyleSuites to a new build? Not a problem. I'm on MSN for the next hour, so you can send it to me :)

#148837

Nice job simon :D

#148842

Not a problem, glad I could help. You guys have all been so nice to me, and have always helped out n00by people like myself, so it's nice to give something back.

NEW BUILD MIRROR = STYLESUITES

#148845

well just tested the new vesion, and its pritty much perfect!

now what we have to do is get the size of the splash pannel and the size of the log in pannel, (were u select your windows profile and put in password), we have to get them to match. so it looks like a perfect transition.

#148855

The new build is great. Tom sent me it to host and I got to try it. I had non of the problems I experienced previously. Simon lemme know if you need a mirror my connection d/c and I couldnt get back on to give Tom the link.

#148875

Where are stored the settings ? I have the "runtime error n° 76", and it's maybe a path problem, i could solve it by edit the settings. But where are they ?!?

#148921

the settings are located in the regisry under the following key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\KUNG FU\BOOTLOAD\

The settings include:

BootDelay (ammount of milliseconds it takes for your desktop to load)

BootImage (location of the wallpaper file)

ShowTaskbar (set to either TRUE or FALSE)

But honestly, I don't see where any of these settings could cause that kind of an error, please next time I need to know when the error came up, on boot or the config. And when you get a runtime error it's usually accompanied by a number, next time make a note of it and post here

#148923

i also get the same problem. when i try to configure the program, it says:

Run-time error '76':

Path not found: ' '

#148943

ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCED WITH EDITING THE WINDOWS REGISTRY

open regedit.exe

Open the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\KUNG FU\BOOTLOAD\

Delete all the settings under this key:

BootDelay

BootImage

ShowTaskbar

after you have deleted these, run the config

#148944

perfect. Funny how a progress bar that moves faster makes it seem like your computer is loading faster! LOL

THanks Tom, This is really great stuff.
