[release] Milk Firefox Theme Beta 1.0

A very minor update with mail button arrow removed is already available, follow the link mentioned above, please.

I have also removed version for the official release, because 0.8+ version works correctly with both the official release and the nightlies.

kyods,

Nice job of finally getting this Milk theme of aladinsrl repacked into a proper .jar file...

He did mention to me via an email that he was going to be working hard on updating this neat skin ****, but any help that we as a collective community can give him, I'm sure that he would/will be appreciative of the efforts...

I know Lynch mentioned to me via IM, that the Toolbar icons need to be more spaced together, and if you go to the 'Customizing Other' Arena and look at the posted pic by ji eun of iStyle GUI kit, then you can see the difference...Here is the link:

iStyle Safari Toolbar pic

I realize that you only made modifications to this theme, but in both aladinsrl's original and in your repacked mod, the mag glass in the Serach bar will have the top part disappear after surfing for a while...and to correct his you have to click on the Search bar and then it reappears..., but it happens all the time.

Anyways, all work from members to help rectify these issues I'm sure will be greatly appreciated...It would also be nice to the 'open book icon' put into the skin so that you could move it onto the BTF (bookmark folder toolbar) section...Magbi had done this will his work...

I'd like to try the latest nightly build. If I install the nightly, do I have to uninstall my Milestone release? Can I have both a nightly and a Milestone installed at the same time? Will they interfere with one another?

I believe they will.

The best way is to backup your previous Firefox installation and your profile directories and go for a fresh install. If you're not satisfied, just restore the old folders. If you don't want to lose your settings, you can try upgrading with the new installer version, but it still depends on the customizations you have made. I, for example, had problems with some extensions causing general instability of the application.

oc-athlonxp,

Yes it is possible, however there have been a multitude of changes/fixes from 0.8 Milestone and the most recent nightly...

The recent nighlies have a new Firefox profile folder (no longer labeled Pheonix) and the migration with the 'Installer builds', has been very buggy. (btw-I don't use installer builds)

As long as you keep the two different FF builds, in completely different directories, and you do not try to migrate from your Pheonix profile folder (0.8 Milestone) to your Firefox (Recent Nightly) profile folder so you should be fine...

Some members @Mozillazine have reported that they have used a Pheonix profile and have manually migrated over to the new Firefox profile without issues, however others have reported big conflicting issues...

To be on the Safe side, start with a new Firefox profile and directory...

#137505

I tried running two different nightlies without success: BlueFyre's, and the 3/30 build, when I run firefox.exe in both builds, I get a XP error message saying there is an application error. I unzipped both builds into their own newly created directory and ran firefox.exe from there, without luck.

Thanks. ^_^

Well, I treat this mod as a temporary solution for running aladinsrl's excellent theme on the nightlies without problems until aladinsrl shows his true power and releases the full version of his theme.. I'm not really a coder and certainly not a CSS guru, most work I did was a cheap copy/paste job every semi-intelligent chimp is capable of. ;)

I know Lynch mentioned to me via IM, that the Toolbar icons need to be more spaced together, and if you go to the 'Customizing Other' Arena and look at the posted pic by ji eun of iStyle GUI kit, then you can see the difference...

There is indeed. Yes, it might be a good idea, I'll look into it. ^_^

I realize that you only made modifications to this theme, but in both aladinsrl's original and in your repacked mod, the mag glass in the Serach bar will have the top part disappear after surfing for a while...and to correct his you have to click on the Search bar and then it reappears..., but it happens all the time.

Never found this bug, using both aladinsrl's theme and my mod. Would you post a screenie please? Could anybody confirm?

Anyways, all work from members to help rectify these issues I'm sure will be greatly appreciated...It would also be nice to the 'open book icon' put into the skin so that you could move it onto the BTF (bookmark folder toolbar) section...Magbi had done this will his work...

Screenie, please? I'm not quite sure if I follow.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback, it's really appreciated. ^_^

kyods,

First of all what a thorough rebutal/reply to my post...well done! I will get up a 'ss' of the mag glass 'glitch' when it happens again...lol.

To see a 'ss' of the 'Open Book' icon on the BTF (bookmark toolbar folder) go to Lynch's Fx Saf-update thread, and on pg.8 and it can be viewed to the left of the 'Tabs' bookmark:

Lynch Fx Saf Update thread pg.8

Yes, until aladinsrl 'finally' comes through with further updates and 'ss' of what he would ultimately like to accomplish in his neat skin, please keep up your motivated/determined work...

:staffs here:

Thanks kyods for the reply I'll try it now

gahbmwM5,

You mean the bookmark icon, of course, it can be changed. I'll look into it. ^_^

#137785

kyods,

lol, good deal as my terminology of this 'bookmark 'open book' icon was probably confusing... ;)

Here is a 'ss' of the darn Mag glass glitch that I'm getting with both aladinsrl's original, and your modded skin. It happens after opening up a couple of windows, and to correct it, I have to click on the Search Bar, then click on any window, and it reverts back to its proper form/image...

My graphics card on this laptop is built into the MB, so it is not the best quality, but I do have the latest driver, and other FF skins, do not produce this glitch, but (of course) they use a different 'Google.gif'

Man my FF nightly is acting up...I have sent you a email with this mag glass glitch in an attachment... EDIT*** Finally got it to upload

glitch.jpg

I just tried Lynch's cool Saf08.jar (beta) and it looks like it has the same 'Google.gif' and it too gives me the same issue as the above .jpg

#137849

gahbmwM5,

Your mail has been received and replied. I'm currently trying to reproduce the problem. Stay tuned. ;)

#137964

Hi kyods,

Thank you for your reply and your prompt email...Funny because when I use Pinstripe skin that has Magbi9's 'Mag glass' Google.gif that does not have the 'Google text' I can open up windows all day, and this glitch does not occur...

lol, I could imagine my native laptop resolution on your 17" screen! I have tried replacing aladinsrl's 'Google.gif' with Magbi's (but of course) being that it was designed with his coding (browser.css), and I'm sure other elements, it does not look good in this Milk skin...

Hopefully by posting the 'ss' here some other members will post that they too are getting this glitch, and then we will/should have a little more concrete info to work with...

#137983

gahbmwM5,

I was playing with F-fox in 800x600 for almost two hours and now I know what you meant by putting the toolbar icons closer together. ;) However I have still not encountered the mag glass glitch. I'm currently using F-fox 20040330 0.8.0+ BlueFyre Build on the XP Pro English/SP1. Have you tried other F-fox builds than the one you're currently running?

#138036

kyods,

Thanks for taking the time on this as running my 'entry level' WinXP SP1 laptop's (by todays standards unheard of res...lol) on your system. Another learning experience to never, ever purchase any computer components when one is not an informed buyer! As the price that I paid for it 2 yrs ago, and what specs I could get for the same $$$price would be a different story...lol, oh well, live & learn!

I have been using djeter's -O2-GAL6-SSE nightly builds for they are optimized for P3's...

Maybe I will try a official nightly build, but I really don't see how the optimization flags could affect a small .gif, but it is worth the try...

No biggie, as FF 0.9 is right around the corner, and being that I constantly review @MozillaZine, it seems that the Devs are going to be freezing the trunk, and only performing bug fixes until 0.9 Milestone comes out...

I have just installed Piro's latest update to his TBE and ver: 1.10.2004033101, seems to have corrected the 'favicon postion location on the tabs'...There is no longer 'shifting text' when hoovering my cursor over the 'Close tab button feature', but these issues are going to happen when using Nightlies which basically is still a alpha/beta browser...As I'm a sucker for reviewing the 'Burning Edge' great work by Jesse, and all the new features, bug fixes, and the dreaded regressions...

Yes, I know that pain all too well. Now I have finally learnt to search the web and gather some opinions before buying any hardware, no matter if it's a CPU or some CDRs.

They of course should not affect it, but a theory remains a theory, and the Murphy's law remains the Murphy's law. ;)

That's right. There are only 41 found blockers, so I guess it's the matter of two-three weeks until 0.9 arrives. I'm hanging there a bit as well. ;)

They do happen and they shall happen, even when the browser reaches 1.0 stage, I suppose. There's still a matter of the extension interoperability and their compatibility. That's why I gave up TBE, which was constantly giving me trouble. Right now I stick with Tabbrowser Prefs, MiniT, UndoCloseTab nad Blanklast, which gives me (almost) all the advantages of TBE without risking instability.

Kyods,

Once again, your grasp/knowledge of 'what is not your native tongue' (I think) is outstanding!

I just found this quote from member LStatie who replied in Lynch's Saf 8 thread, where I also posted a link to the above 'issue' that I'm getting with aladinsrl's original Google.gif:

"The Firefox -> Firefox Mac tutorial has a google.gif image that does not clip. I am using that one right now."

So he too is also experiencing this 'clipping of the mag glass'... I have replaced aladinsrl's Google.gif with the one from Magbi9's Pinstripe thread, which is pinned in this Skin's Forum, but in order to have it display correctly, I have to have it shown as 'Mag glass' with down arrow and then have 'Page' text...

So it does look like it could be an issue with aladinsrl's original Google.gif, as Lynch reported on my reply of this issue, in his thread, that he did 'not' replace the Google.gif image for his beta Saf 8 skin...Here is the link to Magbi Pinstripe Tutorial with his Google.gif:

Magbi Pinstripe Tutorial with Google.gif

EDIT*** lol, as the 'theme genie' aka Lynchknot just posted a new Google.gif on his thread (without the text), and thus far opening up many, many windows...no image clip!

:woot:

gahbmwM5,

Once again, your grasp/knowledge of 'what is not your native tongue' (I think) is outstanding!

Thank you very much ^_^ You're right, English is not my native language, to tell the truth it's quite far from my native language.

So it does look like it could be an issue with aladinsrl's original Google.gif, as Lynch reported on my reply of this issue, in his thread, that he did 'not' replace the Google.gif image for his beta Saf 8 skin...

Got the GIF. Well, it's possible. I'll investigate during the weekend or on Monday - Tuesday, because Friday and this weekend could be pretty busy. ^_^

#138224

Well I did now. I just cut the "page" off of the icon and inserted into google plugin. You/I can color the arrow in with white if you don't want it.

#138225

To kyods & Lynch,

See my above EDIT*** reply...so at least for now, the clipping of the Google.gif is solved...

;) :woot:

I'm glad. Anyway, here lies a quick solution with some code replaced to play nice with Magbi's Google icon. Or any Google icon, I guess. ;)

#138231

Ok...lol, here is my issue, when I update to a new FF nighlty, I always start with a new profile, and directory...

I have applied Piro's ver: 1.10.2004033101 and it causes the tabs to be larger then other recent versions...:(

I still have aladinsrl's TBE version within his Milk folder, but have tried to get it installed after 'uninstalling ver: 1.10.2004033101...

For example, in his complete Milk package folder, there are a number of folders & files:

1. tabextension.jar--->goes into my profile--->\Chrome folder

2. Extensions Folder--->in here are the 3 extensions, I already have both Compact Menu & Tab Preferences installed--->so this is not an issue, as they have retained the same version for 3 months now with no issues...

2b. tabextensions en .xpi----->here is the TBE version (I think 1.10.2004030903) that has worked fine with his skin...as all the more recent versions, Piro keeps updating versions because on constant issues...

EDIT************

Got it! lol...:)

#138597

lol...well I deleted my complete Firefox directory & profile, and am using Lohvarn's 20040401-O2-GAL6-SSE build, and then installed Aladin's TBE from his Milk folder, which is the tabextensions_en.xpi--->ver: 1.10.2004030201

Then according to his 'instructions.txt', you close the browser, then add his 'tabextensions.jar'--->to my profile--->\Chrome directory--->ver: 1.10.2004022401 (while replacing/overwriting the installed 'tabextensions.jar' ...

And I still have the larger then normal tab size...this is using kyods Milk.jar...lol!

Where is the conflict causing this 'large tab size'??? Here is a 'ss' top view is mine and look at the difference in tab size from bottow view aladin's pic @DA...

MT.jpg

#138662

I'm going to lose all my hair if I keep reading your posts. :6

What do you mean by tab size? height or width. If you mean width, there is a setting in Options/tabs - width of tabs - have you ever looked into options before?

And, will you stop uninstalling installing uninstalling - Just CHANGE THE NAMES - that way if something is wrong - delete it and change the name back. For example: "Xtabextensions"

I have gone through so many versions of Firefox without ever starting a new profile.
