Well, my eyes hurt and I'm very tired. I've pored over file locations, data forks, hex numbers, and the like for hours, and basically found nothing- I even looked through hidden files. There is one ray of hope, however.

In the files "Finder.rsrc" and "Extras.rsrc", there are the names of several Finder elements- the metal texture being one of them, along with the names of different buttons and their respective states (pressed, hover, etc.). I am using Resourcer in OS X, and I can only see the names. I have a feeling that ResEdit may be able to see the actual graphics; however, this requires OS X running Classic (which I don't have) or an older Mac that is running OS 9.

That's about all I can figure at this point. Hopefully some progress is made while I go get some sleep...

Well, i've been rooting throught the various framework folders and have been unable to find anything very useful. Does anyone have any other ideas where brushed metal textures etc, might be found?

SUDDEN INSPIRATION! Who makes that app that removes the brushed texture from windows? They'd know where that sort of resource would be!

#119414

OK, we are taking a new approach here...we are going to try to use ThemePark to crack the Finder.rsrc and Extras.rsrc files.

ThemePark is an app used to create themes for Mac OS X, and can be used to view and export graphic elements- hopefully this includes the ones locked up in these files. ThemePark crashes when it tries to run on my computer....can anyone else download ThemePark and try to crack the files?

Being an OS X theme builder, I know exactly where the brushed texture is... I can extract it into a tiff file, just gimme the word :)

#119460

Installed it and am exploring. I've just grabbed a couple of things from iTunes as a demo.

close button

check box

Both are .tiffs

L.

By the way, you need unsanity's APE haxie for it to run.

I think we could all use that brush texture. ;)

Just to let everyone know, Photo has cracked the files and is extracting as we speak. More later.

Ok fellas, as per godpunks fab suggestion i am now in the process of pulling all the finder info from thempark. Will have all of it zipped and sent to godpunk within an hour hopefully.

Just to let you all know so we arent doing double duty./

Thanks to godpunk for the idea

#119466

update:::::

All resources from finder.rsrc have been pulled

Extras.rsrc has all the widgets and tons of other stuff, Godpunk is going to do that.

If anyone wants to host the zip with the finder.rsrc files, please let me know

#119482

Bugger. I was half way through that extras file.

#119616

I have plenty of space and 10gb of bandwidth to spare, I'll host em

#119643

Can I recommend you all take a look here.

Do we have anyone that can provide us with a secure (password-protected) IRC chat room? Yes, I know that there is an IRC chat room for members, but a secure one is needed to keep info from leaking and rumors from spreading....

Can anyone help?

#120209

Why not just use a mailing list? That way only the members you want will receive the emails.

You could also start a password protected JABBER room. ;)

(I'd help, but I have no talents)

#120229

I have extra mailing lists, give me the word and I'll create one :)

Cant you just make a new one on the A-S server, im shure they wont mind too much. Its as easy as /j #makeupyourownname and set it to +i only

#120241

If you guys need a Irc channel o go o u can use #pathetisad on Zirc. its nice and empty for u guys to do ur dirty work.

Also i do grapihc design and have acess to any software/files that u need to help u with ur project... oh and i can get osx screenshots lol :D

#120272

The A-S server seems to be down, so I set up a room at irc.aquaxp.com

It's #smokescreen, and requires a password. Members of the development and GUI teams can message me on AIM (iliveforweez) to get it.

Damn, if only it was a few months ago. I had all of the Panther GUI resources already pulled and saved in all of their states in TIFF format. I had hoped that I did not delete them already, but it seems I have. It's unfortunate....it would've saved you guys a lot of time.

However I DO have all of the Safari resources pulled and in TIFF format still on my HDD.

If you want them, shoot me an email and I'll provide them.

I don't have much to offer but I would be more than happy to help in any way possible. the only 2 things I can think of are hardcore xp testing and getting the word out.

I dual boot linux and xp and I never use xp. I wouldn't mind screwing up xp in the name of skinning, no harm done to me. I also am pretty good with xp and finding problems. So if you need a hardcore tester that doesn't care if the testing messes up his xp I am here.

I just want to help make this reality :P

Additionally I can help with putting the graphics together. I also suggest to use xml for all the graphic placement and arrangement. I have been going over the many ways in which to skin linux and xml seems to be the best.
