I have a suggestion that may be going out on a limb. How about this. First, get rid of General Discussion. Yes, that's what I said. Abolish it. And then have a link to TRD.net as General Disscusion, which that was the initial purpose of TRD was for, right? Then get rid of the Computers/Hardware and have a link to TCPU. Which the focus at TCPU is hardware (gaming, non-aqua programming, hardware tweeking). So you have:

Aqua-Soft (Software to emulate Aqua)

Twisted CPU (Hardware and other computer related articles)

and TRD.net (Off-Topic, anything goes place. Where members should not feel frightened to dicuss what they want.)

Having a no General Discussion will hopefully get rid of the encouragement to have the topics that the purists don't want, and they don't have to see them if they don't want to.

Keep the rules here, and if you decide to do something like this, feel free to make the rules even stricter.

Just a suggestion that I thought will help out. If you don't want to, I understand.

Whilst this is a good suggestion, in principle, it's a little flawed...

People don't want three seperate forums for what is, effectively, one community.

Tim tried linking TCPU and A-S for a while, as some of you may remember, and all he got was complaints.

As for linking to TRD, why would Tim want to do that, after Duckie's displays when he was de-Admin'd?

Also, I, for one, have never and will never visit TRD for the simple reason that it has nothing to offer me that Aqua-Soft doesn't already, and that I, personally, don't agree with a lot of Duckie's views. This is not a slight against Duckie - I have a lot of respect for him - I just disagree with his opinions and methods, mostly concerning the nature of A-S, admittedly, but they're still conflicting opinions.

If the purists don't want to see off-topic discussion, there's a really easy way not to - don't visit the Gen. Discussion forum. Problem solved.

As for TCPU, you may have noticed that it's been a bit... Quiet? Unfortunately, I think TCPU didn't have it's own niche - it was being aimed at an area which is full to overflowing as it is, and had nothing that really set it apart from the crowd.

Like I said up there^ - good suggestion, but not really workable.

I think it's rather telling what Timmie thinks of TRD.Net from the fact that typing The_Real_Duckie without _'s results in SPAM

I can force timan to ban someone or close/open threads.

Should we start calling Tim "Chi-Chi"? ;)

If you care about aqua-soft so much your member group status should not matter one bit.

You can still contribute as much as you want as a member.

That still doesnt stop fights from breaking out, or redundant posts from being deleted.

Do you have any clue how many flames i deleted off the boards inorder to avoid fighting?

That's why my logs always said "deleted post from (insert thread name here)" EVERYDAY

How about all the rips i found and removed?

Or the members who used multiple names to access the boards?

ANY of it...

I wasnt just the resident asshole. I served a valuable purpose, but I kept it to myself. Maybe that was my problem--not letting you guys know what i did, but I did that to keep the peace as best possible.

Why do you think all these cry-baby's hate me? They hate me because i del;eted their disrespectful post and such.

Go look at my PM's...I've actually recieved PM's from people who said in effect "Duckie, you jerk..why did you delete my post. i cut that guy down really good and it took me a long time to come up with that argument"

Imagine the nerve!

They actually PM'ed me to tell me i was wrong for deleting a rude comment.

then they would run to DADDY(tim) like a tattle tale and give THIER verison of events, and NONE of you asked me a damn thing. You all just assumed i was being an asshole.

Maybe you all should actually look at all the support i have here rather than what very little negativity i have. And also, brush up on your history. Read my latest post on MY website.

it isnt about power for me...no matter how you twist it.

#107487

No, its not about power, it's about being appreciated.

Expect that you won't be appreciated for everything you do. God knows I've gotten used to it.

If you start doing things just so people will say "good job duckie, you rock!", you will be disappointed.

Which is, if you noticed, not my forte' nor my intent either.

#107521

@Duckie: Sometimes, it's just hard to make people see the effects in the long run. Many thirst for short-term gratification, which we know is something you are not after.

#107522

duckie,

i just finished your post on your site... while it is commendable on what you've done in the past, we're not living in the past anymore. this community has to start looking forward and coming up with solutions on how to keep it working.

first off, i have been been a member now for just about 5 months, a youngster in the realms of aqua modding, but not in life. the durogatory comments and flagrant insults are not appreciated. i also think that it's bull"mr. hankey" to put it under the guise of being a joke. i was voted class clown in my senior year of h.s. and i know how to take and receive one, but many times, these don't come across as such.

as far as the development of skins, icons, etc in years past, i have seen some of your work and yes, it was damn good... but if someone said to me "name the top 50 members that have made a contribution to the community since i became a member", where do you think your name would be? I haven't seen anything come from you in the terms of creativity in months (unless i just missed it, and i will humbly apologize if i'm wrong) You became an administrator and it seems like you put your devotion to creating aside to try to police an idealism that is long gone.

but even putting that aside, if a purist community of aqua modding is what you want, why don't you use trd.com to do that? maintain it with a select core group of people that you invite only.

but i do have a question, and i am going to use a direct quote from your post on trd:

"I could really give a "mr. hankey" if you want to know what kind of music I like.

Who the "naughty word" cares what book I am reading?

"naughty word"ing instant message me if your creaming in your pants that bad for such useless info.

i just want Aqua...period."

why then, do you have the following forum topics on your site:

religion

politics

sex

fetish

race

general discussions-an open forum for discussing everything

fun

pics and images

events-theatrics, plays, stage, tv, and whatever else isnt show related

like i said before, why don't you use your forum space to create the type of community that you once had.

though, i just wish we can break away from this nonsense finally and get back to what we should be, one community. Even if that means having to deal with the occassional off topic discussion on life.

duckie,

i just finished your post on your site...  **SNIPPED**

Yes, you apparently missed alot.

including the gist of my post as well as the context.

#107570

its just computers...

#107576

can you expound on that? what context are you referring to?

#107578

can you expound on that?  what context are you referring to?

first, your reference to my issue with offtopic posts.

i wasnt reffering to my site, I was reffering to here.

for instance, that new 'is siwu hott?' post.

I offered my forum up for just that kind of thing

furthermore, you reffered to my humorous take on events as a 'guise' when, in fact, i am just being honest. How is that a guise? should i apologize for being who i am? I dont think so. Some people happen to like the fact that i havent bowed down to the lowest common denominator and become what others wish me to be.

finally, i wasnt saying "Oh, look at me and all i have done. Aren't i cool?' in the context you seem to take it. i was offering up history so people didnt think i just happened upon the 'scene' with no knowledge or ability.

Yes, i have done recent works, as well, which you have completely missed. I have also helped in the development of many of the apps on this site in skinning and bug reports, but those efforts are behind the scenes and only refferenced in a few of the README's.

**edit**

In addition to this post, I am all for change. i abhore things that are static. But unknown to you or anyone else (Since I dont think I should have to answer to anyone but Tim) i WAS enabling change here.

#107582

HAHAHAHAAA

I just got this in my PM box:

ukk man, we need you. seriously. "is siwu hot?" WTF???? i've seen the darkness... i repent. come back, just don't tell each and every one of us to fukk the hell off and blow you.

#107586

like i said, i would most humbly apologize... :sorry:

if trd is for casual discussions of regardless, then why don't we link to that more predominantly... this was my first time honestly being to the forums area, my only experience with your site was at the QCD iTunes skin section. If more people here knew this, then perhaps the A-S general discussion area wouldn't be quite so flooded with what many people are griping about.

is there a seamless way to integrate the 2 sites?

(tim, obviously your input would be necessary here too)

#107591

Tim's input as well as mine has been mentioned enumorous times.

people are just lazy and dont want to register at another site

Tim and I considered combining our member lists, but they dont work klike that, so we cant import anything.

#107595

TBH if you are going to keep GD, why does it matter where it is? I mean what difference does it make if you have it here, or have a link for GD stuff to TRD? If someone doesn't want to read the GD posts, they either don't click the link to TRD or don't click the link to the GD forum.

I have to say this is the only forum out of 5 i read every day that has ever had this kind of arguement! They are all PC based, and have sections on sport, music, films, GD, serious discussion, gaming etc. and no-one complains about any of the sections. If they don't like a particular tpic, they don't read that section!

I thought the whole point of this place was to build a community, (and when I joined not so long ago, it did seem like that) and in a community you can't just talk about one thing or people will get bored and leave, people won't get to know each other and collaborate on works with people they have developed friendships with thru talking about other interests, as seems to happen here a fair bit, which I like....

I don't know, I just think it needs to get alot less serious around here! Everyone (maybe with the exception of people like noefx :P) is here because they have something in common - it's not like anyone is forced to be here! Can't we all just get along, have nice friendly discussions about whatever takes our fancy, and make cool stuff for other people to use?!

Spread the !!!!

#107611

does anyone else think this is being blown out of proportion. the site is still here, i have no troulbe finding what i want...then again i didn't before this happend. granted there are a lot of ****s , and they ask questions before surching, but instead of complaining, i answer there questions, i also get a lot of pms, from people and i help them too.

i would like to think im a very active member here, but i only have 1 star and no badge, am i complaining, no. because it wouldn't matter to me. id still be here, helping out, and relesing my work.

i know duckie an the other have a good reson to be upset, and im not discreading what there saying, im just saying everyone needs to take a deep breath and RELAX!

One thing I do think needs to be added to the rules about spamming tho, is people making a post, then replying to their own post within an hour saying "Come on, someone must have an answer" which seems to be happening alot. Actually it seems to be happening within 15 minutes, let alone an hour. That annoys the hell out of me! We need some kind of rule like, if no-one has replied to your thread you can't bump it in under 24 hours.

People also need to stop being so impatient!

if you noticed, these threads became more visible after the change here...

yet another thing I kept out of the limelight in my days.

but hey...we all have to learn somehow, right?
