Nice move on the new rules, Timmy... And to the outoging staff, thanks for your long service to us all... Despite what some people may say, it is widely recognised that this place would go significantly more to the s**t if it wasnt for your work.

Cheers

Ok:

Every community has its rules.

Every community has its administrators, moderators and members.

Many communities (as this) have their special members.

All this is right.

But what isn't clear to me (and think not only to me) is, which criterion and who decide when a member must be inserted in a special group.

Perhaps I'm hard to comprise, but they are concepts that, from when I practically attend the forum (from its birth), I've never understood.

Cheers to all :)

Isn't it a touch harsh to ban on the first offence? Don't get me wrong I agree that there definitely is a necessity to have some sort of regulatory structure that is effective, but IMHO to have nothing but a series of bans seems to be the other side of draconian :(

Just my two pennies.

I like the idea. Ban the spamming idiots.

I used to come here alot and contribute whenever I could.

But I have to agree, lately it seems I have to sort through PAGES of CRAP to find decent topics that are related to what this board is about.

I try and pop in everyday and I see it's been getting worse.

Thanks for the rule change.

Rules are rules... Ban 'em if they break 'em.

Yea but, they can always come back with a different name and if we start this new policy, I'm afraid they might all resort to that option.

It's always possible to ban the I.P. address.

Anyway, I think banning is not a complete solution to the whole issue, though it does make people think twice (or thrice) before posting though.

And to be banned for the first offence without a warning may seem a little harsh. Maybe the punishment for the first offense could be lightened, such that they are not allowed to post, but still be allow to cruise the boards? For a period of say 3 days or so, as deemed fit. For subsequently offenders, I have no qualms with harsher punishment though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 1st offence -> 1 day suspension pretty much what's being suggested here?

If someone spams, they get suspended a day.

Spam again? Suspended for seven days.

Again? Fourteen days?

Fourth time? They're banned.

Sounds fair enough to me...

Possibly putting a time-span on the offences would be a good idea - if they manage to offend four times in a single month (which would be fairly stupid, and quite hard, if you think about it), then ban them. If they offend four times over, say six months, then maybe not keep "increasing" their punishment...

Yes, that's right Stevie. It's a one-day suspension for the first offence. I'm just suggesting a lighter punishment for a first-time offence, but increasing the penalty for subsequent offenders.

In-line with your suggestion. ;)

#106647

Count me in for that suggestion as well. ^^

#106778

I thought 1st offense was a warning? then it goes to the suspending of the account.

#106788

Here's the news, Timan.

News from the community.

- The staff has been nearly cut in half.

- This is the new suspension policy:

..... First Offense: 1 day suspension

..... Second Offense: 7 day suspension

..... Third Offense: 14 day suspension

..... Fourth Offense: Banned

If there's a PM to serve as a warning before the actual suspension, then I guess that's good enough.

#106797

count me in too for that one ;)

#106798

Ah ok, this is how it should go

after you are warned, then... you get the 1 day stuff.

#106802

thumbs up for this

#106806

Brilliant. ;)

does the Contributer group have any powers? (relating to the board, not magical powers)

#106879

Looks like a good idea to me (especially the warning up front)... :canadian:

I can force timan to ban someone or close/open threads. :moon: We're the spirtual gods, we're too holy to continue enforcing law and order. The older generation of kings. Say, contrasutra is Goku the III etc.

Stevie is Goku the XII.

Coming to think about it, Contra could be Taha the III or Siddarth the III as well

#106936

The warning first sounds good to me too. I believe kindness is rewarding not only to the person in question, but also to the self. Peace

I bet you would when it says banned under your avatar?

#107028

Can't you just self-ban? WTF?

I'd just rather not have that piece of sh|t contributor banner.

I don't want it.

It offers nothing in abilities nor allowances, so why should I have it?

Maybe you could just cover me in paper cuts and pour vinegar on me. That might hurt less.

I have no problem with that. -_-
