I think we can all agree that things here have needed a shake-up, and with good reason. In the past months, we have seen A-S grow to upwards of 10,000 members.
Lately, we have seen disputes arise between staff and members about what exactly we expect out of you, what you can/can't do, etc. So we have done something about that.
The staff has been nearly cut in half. Many of the Mods and Admins that have been coming here less and less have been cut, although they have been retained in the "Contributors" group, as a nod to their longevity in the community, as well as to acknowledge their past contributions. We did not cut them out of spite, insult, etc., but out of necessity, as unfortunate as it was.
Furthermore, we will crack down on spam. Although we are retaining the General Discussion forum for topics not pertaining to computing, you as members are expected to know the difference between discussion and spam- those who cannot regulate themselves will be suspended. This also goes for the Off-Topic posse who enjoys hijacking threads.
This is the new suspension policy:
*After you are warned*
First Offense: 1 day suspension
Second Offense: 7 day suspension
Third Offense: 14 day suspension
Fourth Offense: Banned
Many of you have complained that the mods don't regulate the forums enough. What you don't understand is that we have lives too, and cannot babysit you guys all day long. So now, instead of babysitting you, we will suspend/ban you. The truth is, you should be able to 'babysit' yourself with your own common sense and self-control, but since many of you cannot handle that, we will do it for you by giving you a vacation. Until we add more mods, that's how it will be.
It sucks to be this harsh, but it is necessary. If everyone can use some common sense, we will be fine.
