[release] Avedesk 1.0 Final

Thanks NilColor (Y) , I am taking a look at it now (although I am suppose to be working on my university-project :naughty: ).

Apperently, USB deviced are handled differently than CD/DVDs. I will dive into MSDN and (hopefully) find some info on it friday :)

your university project!! you to ;)...

For the USB/firewire/removable storage the desklet doesn't work for now as Andreas said

In fact it works with all the drives that when they are not connected are in the liste of drive (for example a DR drive, a Network drive...). A removable storage will not be handled the same way cause when you add a USB key for example, a new letter appear in you system (G:\) and when you remove it, it disaprear :( so the desklet that check the available space on the drive will not be able to check it when not mounted so it doesn't work...

the point is to get the way the volumes are handled by windows and report it on desklet :)

Andreas i trust you :smartass: :naughty: :naughty:

#99899

someone just removed/edited his post, dirty :6  What are the exact properties of the font you are trying to use?

#99914

not sure if this is known but this might be a small bug...

but if an icon is half coverd by a window.. and you click on the icon the icon will come above the window(the same if you click on the label)

but other then that this is working great!!!

version is 1.0 zip install..

is there a recycle bin desklet or docklet that can be used with this??

and hide the windows bin too??

#100079

wait n/m about that icons coming up over open windows i found the option to change it..

that's what i wanted to request to :)

request it in the section above (not in release)

to AndreasV:

I've tried OBFont or LucidaMAC fonts too and I find that PFB fonts aren't supported.

P.S: I'm interestin how to use these fonts. I need this knowlage for developing "Switcher"...

Have a good developing time at Friday!

:D

#100229

@AndreasV - you just a pm from me.

Hmmm....looks like avedesk applications is really a hit here and yet, he still didn't get his badge....

DEVELOPER!

DEVELOPER!

DEVELOPER!

#100240

oh yeah developper!!!

:)

#100264

Don't start posting pointless "developer" posts.

A developer is still a developer, badge or no, just like (almost) any other role at A-S.

For example, I was a mod before I was a staff-member - I behaved like a mod, posting informative responses, warning people about bad actions, and so forth. It's for that reason that a few of the current mods bullied Timmie into making me a mod.

On the other hand, I'm a professional developer. I write applications for mutlinational corporations to earn my keep. My job title? Web technology analyst.

To paraphrase Whoopie Goldberg in "Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit" (no comments, please):

"If you wake up in the morning, and all you can think of is [writing code], then you are a [developer]"

If that's the case, what does a badge matter?

#100278

@ Stevie_BM:

I agree with you, but.......

BTW: what's the function of "Master label" in a Shortcut desklet?

i agree, but why is there badges?? if it's something to keep... then don't put it on the board...

i hate telling that sometimes human beeing is soooo stupid :) (it's not a personnal offence just a notice)

anyway Andreas is a roxor!!! (maybe you should create a badge for the roxors :P hihi)

cya guys

#100302

@FeAt: GDI+ does not support PFB fonts, only Truetype, so I need to make my own PFB font drawing routine :) When I succeeded in it, I'll will give it to you, so you can use it in your "Switcher".

@alang: thanks for the PM, I am going to read it next.

@ThePowderRanger: It's something I forgat to remove :shy: I choosed not to implement this feature, but I have no choice anymore now

Master label should allow you to place one label somewhere on your screen and when mousehoovering an icon, that label should get the text of the mousehoovered icon. BTW, thanks for those beautiful labels (Y)

about all the developers-badge stuff:

Maybe it would be nice to have something like that, but it is something I really do not care about much. There is more in life than badges (soccer :soccer: and girls primarly ;) ), so please stop with all the badge-stuff. If they badgify me; fine, If they don't, fine too.

#100344

Thanks Andre... (I've released another version...)

I'll ask you another question:

ji_eun asked me by PM if there is a chance to override the MountChecker label text with a fixed one, or better,to format the string (i.e.: if the drive label is "D: (FIFA2004)", he want to see only "FIFA2004").

thanks a lot, for your coding time. (Y)

And therein lies my point... The people to whom the badges should be applied (I do, after all, agree that AndreasV should, technically, have a dev badge) don't really care.

As far as I'm concerned, take my mod badge, but leave my "powers" - the badge isn't what counts - it's just a signifier to users who're new (or don't know) that I hold some stead in the community.

With regards to my sig, how often do you see me going round saying "Forsooth, I am The One True Developer, all should harken to my words"? The point is that anyone who has an understanding of what they're talking about always knows that they've always got more to learn. I'll admit that I know a fair bit, but my knowledge, for example, of C++ pales in comparison to AndreasV, or Alilm, or Moby, or countless other people.

Anyway, keep up the good work Andreas. :)

#100352

@ThePowderRanger (damn funny name btw  ): Woa! Very nice labels again, keep it up!

About ji euns question: it is possible! I already thought about people wanting to see all kind of different versions of the mountchecker, hence I have included the source-code in the Desklet SDK. Someone with Visual C should be able to do the job.

@Stevie BM: so I only should technically have a badge  just kiddin' ;)

Yeah, there are endless things to learn, or, in other words: The best thing to know is that you don't know much.

BTW: Going to take a closer look into C#, you conviced me in the Aqua-XP thread :) (with that pointers I meant the ability to decide if an object is allocated on the stack or the heap, not to only have them. It's kinda pointless to always allocate something like struct{int, int} on the heap, but I'll guess most of these things will be optimized away, just like temporaries in c++).

Yeah, only technically ;)

As for C#, that's cool :) If you need any help or want to ask anything, don't hesitate to drop me a PM or post a question over at TwistedCPU ;)

#100374

A little OffTopic:

Stevie_BM give me an idea...

Let me code a little and...watch for first release! :naughty:

#100650

to AndreasV: Thank you for your work. I need that routine (PFB drawer) please povide it to me by email.

Thanks a lot again. :D

P.S: If it's possible write it in C# :shy: but if it'll be in C++... no problem to me to rewrite it into C#

:juggle:

#100651

@FeAt: It will be plain ol' C I think; but I don't know if I can find the time to make it, because I have a busy life lately.

@All:

Mem usage will be decreased in v1.1: I am currently running a test build with 8 icons at 192 x 192 and 500KB ( = 1/2 MB) mem usage. :D

#100848

Sounds Awesome AndreasV

One question, when using MountChecker, is it possible to get rid of "c" when ever you rename the drive?

#102464

I got it...I love it!...I need some more png icons...I suppose I could try and make some! I love powderglass!

Nice!

#103187
